Not being a "twitcher" type I wasn't sure about this but definitely worth doing; 15 minute boat trip across the lagoon from Codrington with a local boatman who was pretty knowledgeable. Incredible how close you can get to these birds with their young - you worry slightly if you are getting too closed but it is all marked off and... More

Our tour was arranged by our sailing cruise. The sanctuary is in a mangrove lagoon, and is not accessible by foot. From the pier there is a bus ride to the lagoon and then a 15 minute ride in a small open air skiff. These huge birds are amazing and there are about 2000 of them all clustered together in... More

We visited the sanctuary taken by George who gave a historical overview of the island of Barbuda to begin the tour. We went late afternoon so missed the heat at noon - we were alone so enjoyed the sanctuary to ourselves for 10 minutes which was amazing. This is the largest frigate colony in the world - we have seen... More

We took the ride directly at Codrington wharf, asking the lady in the office which was the best time to visit. She told us the best was in the morning. Next morning, we started at 9:00AM with a boat ride and a visit of sanctuary. Birds really everywhere, also we were in the nesting season. We saw the dance and... More

Take a boat tour out on the Barbuda laguna, since this is a unique ecosystem and these frigates are worth a visit. Jalla brought us there, and provided useful comments on the wide wings birds. go in the monring since not so hot in the Caribbean sun !

To access the sanctuary you must take a local water taxi, George Jeffery has been the main man for decades and is to be highly recommended. He picked us up as arranged, sorted the local taxes (minimal) and gave an informative tour covering the history of Barbuda up to the point where he nudged his boat next to the nesting... More

Went on the Barbuda Experience trip with Caribbean Helicopters, which also includes a boat ride to the bird sanctuary. We expected to see a few birds, but got to see thousands, and from a very close range.

We took the day tour from our hotel on Antigua, the 90 minute catamaran ferry crossing to Barbuda and then a small boat to the bird sanctuary. We thoroughly enjoyed the crossing and at the sanctuary we were taken within 2 metres of some of the thousands of birds which were totally unmoved by our presence. There were males, displaying,... My wife and I took a small boat from the harbour in Coderington to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary. Our guide Vernon was excellent. It is really something to see these birds and the way they live in the wild. The time of year is important as the males left the area. But we were there during mating season and it... More
