Across Broad Street from the Parliament Buildings and bordered by High and Trafalgar streets, this triangular "square" (formerly called Trafalgar Square) marks the center of town. Its monument to Lord Horatio Nelson (although Nelson was in Barbados only briefly in 1777, when he was a 19-year-old navy lieutenant) predates Nelson's Column in London's Trafalgar Square by 36 years. Also here are a war memorial and a fountain that commemorates the advent of running water on Barbados in 1865.

The statue of a relatively youthful-looking Horatio, Viscount Nelson, was erected here not long after his celebrated victory at Trafalgar and preceded even the more famous Trafalgar Square in London. However it is not all that high (about six metres, even on the plinth) and seems lost in its somewhat commercial surrounds, with traffic whizzing around it like a traffic... More

The WW1 memorial is here, along with a statue of Lord Nelson, but for the most part it is a hot and busy square at the entrance to Chamberlains Bridge and opposite the Parliament buildings. Plenty of cars around but for the history buff it would be worth a visit.

This park is a pleasant park in in the heart of Bridgetown. It is a nice time and is at the start of your stroll through the town, shopping, and historical sights.

We were only in Bridgetown for the day, so enjoyed a stroll and shopping trip, as well as taking in all the local sightseeing, the sqare itself is quite small in area, OK for photos of the statue and fountain, (thats only switched on apparently on special occasions,) the Cathedral is just accross the road, so not to much leg... We were super impressed with the depth of knowledge but they had lovely sculptures so it was worth going for that. You can get the emotion from the art and its a nice walk.

My wife and I visited the national Heroes Square earlier today as part of the Bridgetown Historical Walking Tour. It is an interesting square with several attractions (Cenotaph, Dolphin Garens Fountain etc) but there is plenty of room for more and one good candidate would be another Memorial for the 60,000 Barbadians who perished in the construction of the Panama... We were disappointed with the Square as there isn't much to see around this area. If you are in Bridgetown it may be worth a quick look. The area is a bit scruffy and there is too much litter around. It needs a good clean up.

This was nice but not as impressive as the tourist information would have you believe. I expected something larger and grander based on the descriptions.

Much like the island of Barbados itself, this small square is centered in a picturesque section of Bridgetown. We have seen the statue of Nelson in Montreal and the one in Britain. This one is more modest but placed like it is right on the harbor seems more fitting (and picturesque) for Nelson, the sailor. Given the Squares name I... More

It's a must see in Barbados. Both historical monuments and cozy outdoor place. Very popular also among locals.
