About
Cuba Libro is the only English-language bookstore/coffeehouse on the island. We are an ethically- and socially-responsible business dedicated to supporting the community in which we work and sharing the best of Cuba with visitors. We host cultural events (art openings, live music, book launches and the odd chess tournament), are a clearinghouse for cultural and visitor information, and are building bridges and friendships (read: busting myths and breaking down barriers) between Cubans and foreigners alike. We believe that it's essential to maintain and grow the humanism and solidarity that has defined Cuban culture over the last half century and work everyday to make that a reality. We also have the best coffee drinks and hammocks in Havana! Plus a killer collection of books.

We were doing our research on fun things to do in Havana, and my wife read about Cuba Libro.
As an educator, avid readers, and always wanting to do good while we travel, this was a must stop for us. We emailed them ahead of time and asked how we could contribute. They sent us a list of books on their wishlist, and we packed our bags with books and delivered them.
We had the honor of meeting Conner and the team while enjoying a cafecito and can't wait to see what they create next. Bring them some English books on your next trip to Havana!!!

I think my second trip to Habana, Cuba occurred in February/March of 2017. I booked my way-too-short trip via a travel company that, at present, strangely escapes me. But ,at any rate, I arrived and stayed at the Hotel Presidente, a lodging that was comfortable, along with thirteen or so others for 10 days. This group varied in ages but managed to bond. Our guide was stellar, for she quietly allowed us to venture off on our own and to explore the mysteries that lay there. One day I left the group and traveled via taxi to Cuba Libro, a coffee house and book store, community-focused organization. After I'd arrived, I met the owner a half hour later and presented her with two or three containers of chocolate syrup, an abundance of condoms and lube, and about twenty to twenty-five copies of various magazines that are published in the United States, items that were requested. She (Embarrassingly, her name escapes me.) gave me a personal tour of the facilities, offered me juice or coffee, and sat and discussed the origins and the workings of her community-based organization. As a retired teacher and a community volunteer in my area in the States, I was more than willing to listen and to engage in some dynamic conversation, for I liked their objectives and the work that they were doing in Cuba. I shall always remember this experience and suggest your visiting and donating to Cuba Libro if you find yourself in Habana, Cuba anytime soon or in the future.

Cuba Libro is a cute and comfortable bookstore/coffee shop in old Havana. It's surrounded by greenery, making it feel secluded. Lots of fun art on the walls and fun books throughout the place, not to mention the delicious beverages. Definitely worth a visit! If I return to Havana, Cafe Libro will be near the top of my "must see" list.

Thanks so much for stopping by and your lovely review. One clarification: Cuba Libro is in Vedado, not Old Havana but thanks for reminding us to go have a conversation w the owners of the people pirating our name in that neck of the woods!

The owner, Conner Gory, writer of travel books and American journalist, has opened this English language bookstore to help Cubans have access to books in English. They are mostly used books and are very reasonably priced. She also has a lending library. There is a small cafe as well. The space is lovely and inviting inside and out. People are welcome to come and spend time and read there and have discussions. If you can, make sure to talk to Conner herself - an American who has chosen to live in Cuba.

New York in the house! Glad you got to drop by and experience our way of doing "business." And I love that you call us a community hub; way more descriptive than what we usually hear which is "much more than a bookstore." Thanks for the review. All our little actions add up to a more positive today/future.

We visited Cuba Libro after reading reviews on TripAdvisor. The place was really cute and the people working there very friendly, warm and kind. It serves coffee and a good variety of juices and cold drinks (no alcohol). As we wanted to eat something they suggested the place next door, from where we bought delicious pizza and ate it in Cuba Libro.
We highly recommend the place!!! Calm and peaceful moments!

Hola Stavros!! You guys sat in our "Paz" section if Im not mistaken? And that 75 cent pizza is pretty damn good, eh (for Cuba anyway!) Thanks for the kind write up - although we don't serve food, we always like to support the work of other local businesses like the two lunch places next door, the bakery around the corner and others. We're always looking for win-win situations and this is a great example - they get a little business, you get a good pizza and we all share in the calm and peaceful moments. Cheers, Conner & Team Cuba Libro

Sitting in a porch watching Cuba is amazing. It's an excellent bookstore, amazing espresso, and the vibe is so friendly and local. I wanted to sit there all day! The owner is amazing, and you can just sense the community of friendships even as a visitor.

I enjoy exploring new destinations on foot, so one day included a 5 km walk from my Casa at Habana Vieja to Cuba Libro. I enjoyed the place, reminds me of my former residence in Cairo. I enjoyed a couple of cups of good coffee, a chat with the owner (an American lady) and a Cuban medical student. Lots of books are available for browsing.

Hi Ayidth - Havana is such a great walking city and you really experienced that (loooong walk from Vieja to our corner in Vedado). And now for some good news: Cuba Libro can keep our books!!! New regulations threatened our business model but more logical heads prevailed - we're going to be bigger and better than ever next time you come in!

If you receive this prior to 26 February 2015, I would like the email address of the operators of Cuba Libro. I ask because I leave for Havana on the 28th until the 7th on a People-to-People program, and although this destination is not part of our itinerary, I'd like to go there and donate a few items that I plan to bring with me just for Cuba Libro. Advance thanks! Edward

Trip Advisor's guidelines won't let me send you an email address (even though that is the question that was asked). Let's see if we can get around it. The address is Cuba Libro Havana (but all one word) at gmail. You know the rest. They sent me a list of things they'd like to have, many of which were on my shelf.
