It is a very long and slow steep clime up the mountain. Once you reached the restaurant. it is best to park outside and to use the stairs to climb up to the top of la Gran Piedra. However, once you reach the top, the view of both sides of the mountain range is magic.

I been there many times, if you want to be away from everyone and in the same time be close to the city this is the perfect place, the weather, the view, the history.

The ladder to the top is straight up. Not bad going up but coming down...if you are afraid of heights...well made it but it's a bit scary. Visited 2008

The view at the top is spectacular. I think you climb 470 (approximately) stone steps to get to the rock. Worth the effort. It feels as if you could touch the clouds from the top of this mountain. Excellent trip.

Tough trip to the top but amazing view! Combined with trip Baconoa and Siboney. To get some fresh air which is difficult to find downtown Santiago de Cuba.

Before setting out for our adventure, we stayed at the La Gran Piedra, which gave us time to acclimatize to the high altitude of our hike. A group of six members of the St. Croix Hiking Association during our trip to Cuba this year, we hiked Pico Turquino 6,500 ft., above sea level, and we start at sea level from... More

The Big Rock, as it is known in English is a place that would enchant the most demanding picture hunter. Accessible either by hiking or by car you must, first, stop by the botanical garden that's right before reaching the base of the rock and get thrilled by the powerful blossom of the exotic plants. Carry on, get to the... More

The landscape there is unique, worth the visit especially if you're looking for a rest from the heat of the nearby Santiago

Our casa organised a taxi for us to visit La Gran Piedra for 60CUC including waiting time. It's a very long uphill road from the main highway but in good condition and not busy. There's a hotel and car park at top - you need to go into the hotel to pay the 2CUC fee to climb to the top.... More
