Bait and switch tactics

We went there last week and the pottery was really interesting and unique. We asked the price of an item we loved and were told 50CUC. We agreed and said we would buy it and were just heading a few doors up to eat lunch and would be back to pick it up. 45 minutes later we came back to get our pottery, she took the time to wrap it and secure and tape it up in cardboard and said that will be 70CUC. We said no we actually only have 50CUC in my wallet because you said it was 50CUC. She said no, impossible. She makes up prices out of her head, nothing is posted. She said the only thing she had in the shop that was 50CUC was a mug. She had told us that mug was 25CUC just an hour before. She demanded my MasterCard, I said no ( I would expect she might double or triple charge it) plus we had already agreed on the full asking price of 50CUC earlier, we weren’t even dickering on price, she pulled a bait and switch and tried to guilt us into an extra 20CUC . No thank you. We left, she can keep her pottery, we don’t play like that. Just put a frigging sticker on your pottery instead of trying to remember the lie you told the person. Everyone should get the same price. I don’t mind paying retail. We probably would have paid the 70CUC if that was what she said the first time. Just seedy. We bought 3 nice pieces elsewhere for 4.5CUC (13-1/2 for 3 pieces) the next day somewhere else. Her stuff was really nice though, her ethics were not.

Beautiful local, hand made ceramics. All can be packaged properly if you buy anything. However, we found the items were really overpriced here.

its very nice to support local artists and to want to buy local crafts, but the ceramic shop in varadero is now so ridiculously overpriced that nobody would ever want to buy things there for the prices they are asking.

Beautiful Art is what you'll find here, and all lovingly made by hand. Colleen bought an amazing 'rooster' in a detail we've never seen. The service was remarkable and you can hear stories about the pottery or artists or artwork, or even take a tour. Totally worthwhile.

This place is very central in an area of hotels like "Cuatro palmas" and very close to the park "Josone", the staff that works in this place, added to its art gallery that is linked to the workshop, show excellent plastic works of authors contemporary Cubans. In the ceramics workshop artists of the cultural fund of cultural goods work, as well as national plastic artists. The pieces that conform there are molded and illustrated. The peculiar smell of ceramics materials and the environment give their workers a mandatory visit proposal to those who feel attracted by the art and culture of artistic creation.

Good variety of unique artwork. Interesting as a destination in itself. Items a bit pricey but probably due to costs of upkeep of such a large building.

I was looking for some original art to bring back from my trip and I came across this little gem. They have several artists' work on display and I thought the prices were very reasonable. Items range from decorative to practical dishes, mugs, and jewellery. They provide the required stamped certificate that you need when exporting art.

This building, near the Beatles Bar, houses a ceramics shop and store. Amazing pieces of art created and sold here - all original. Prices are higher than your tourist market stuff.
