The tour guide asked if we wanted to look around or get a tour but her English was not so great, she admitted. Our Spanish is terrible so it made it fun. She was great. 1 CUC each to visit. Only two rooms in the big house but we learned a lot.

For the price of one peso, this tucked away place really is well worth a visit, but only if you have the time. We quite enjoyed our one hour visit and tour of the bottom floor and we believe that is really all of the time that you need... at least until the top floor is finished. Just wished that our guide did not try to sell us cigars at the end of our tour.

This museum is located off the main street in Varadero across from Josone Park. It is in a 1921 beach house who's owner (an architect) left after the revolution. The house was last renovated in 1980/81 and only the first floor and yard is used for the museum. The curator told me that they are currently working to open the second floor for more museum space. The museum is not of the same quality of North American or European museums but this, I found, only adds to the place's charm. The curator seems to be the only employee. She collects the 1CUC entrance fee and is more then willing to answer any questions a visitor may have. She comes across as truly proud of the museum and is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the displays and artifacts. The displays run from the prehistoric (aboriginal remains retrieved from a cave on the peninsula) through to 20th century (a chunk of an American B-26 shot down during the Bay of Pigs). Overall a nice way to spend an hour. If you do go take the time to talk to the curator. This is her museum and she is truly proud of what it has to offer.

We tried to visit the museum only to find that it's been closed permanently. It was sad to see such a beautiful building in such a state, the walls were collapsing and most of the ceiling was filled with gaping holes. Such a shame!

It was worthwhile to see the history of varadero displayed inside and gave some insight to how it came to be and some stuff we never realized or thought of before.

Thinking of all the tourist and government money being poured into tourist traps, bars, resorts, and gift shops, it makes me sad to think this beautiful little museum receives so little.

Certainly it's a statement on the goals of the locals and the Cuban government, take as much money as possible from tourists, end-of-story.

This little museum costs 1CUC to enter, and the lady who runs it is genuinely excited about it. With a bit of broken english on her part and a bit of broken spanish on my part, she gave us a great tour of the artifacts they have, and the very short history of Varadero.

Worth a stop, I hope the Cuban government is able to recognize that places like this are what give a location character, rather than just investing in resorts to try and drain money from tourists as quickly as possible. Worth a visit for sure, just don't expect a highly curated fancy museum unfortunately.

This last rip to Varadero was my 1st journey to the Museum. Until this trip, I had walked by it many times not even aware it was there. But back off the main drag and tucked away in the trees is this fabulous museum that costs 1 CUC to get a tour. Many great artifacts for years gone by and a lot of history to learn. The top floor is under construction, but still a good way to spend 2 or 3 hours.

This museum was included on one of our tours. The tour guide spoke very little English so it was hard to understand what all was being said. There were some neat and very old items to see, and its a rather quick tour.

So glad we came across this gem. Very simple and is run down but it is evident that there is effort being made to keep this place up and running dispite the lack of funds. You cannot not come and see this museum. Lots to see and it is just up from the beach so take a walk and pop your head in. The people working in the museum are a wealth of information and eager and proud to share their history.
