UNDER CONSTRUCTION FOR THE COMING TEN YEAR!!Originally this was a natural rainwater reservoir. During World War II, Dutch and American marines and soldiers used the area to do vehicle maintenance. There was always abundance of water in the area that’s why around the 1940’s trees and plants were cultivated and the park was known as "Plantentuin" (botanical garden). In the fifties in addition to the trees and plants, animals from different privately owned collections were exhibited. The area became a very popular site. The exotic/tropical animals became an attraction for the young and old. After years the area changed from botanical garden to a zoo. The government in 2000 installed a foundation with the sole function to manage the zoo. The foundation is called Fundashon Parke Tropikal Starting in 2011 a new and dynamic team of young professionals took the foundation to a new era. The New name is CURACAO ZOO & NATURE RESERVE.This new team set their goals and mission for the coming ten years to make of our national zoo a great area with international standards, this all cannot be completed only on the government funding, that’s why they are giving every person that visits the zoo the chance to adopt an animal or even an entire project .Upon request they can give you a great tour. For nearly sixty years only four acres where used, but in fact the zoo has more than nineteen acres to be converted in to a great attraction, a former dam that has become a nature reserve is also part of this giant plan with more than sixty acres to add to the final plan.

The zoo is ok, highlight was the very old lion at the entrance... He didn't look very happy though. The playground looked cute but you could fry an egg on the equipment, no shade provided and it gets extremely hot.

First off the place is currently under some sort of renovations, and most of it is closed to the public right now. That having been said, if you are coming from anywhere with any kind of reputable zoo, you probably shouldn't bother coming. The only animals that we saw that were anyway relevant to Curacao were two ostrich and some... More

The zoo is kept clean. Sometimes they have movies nights. Sometimes they have carnival style games for the kids to play. Lots of lights everywhere. Food stands and a play ground.

This zoo is under renovations...for the next 15 years!! Seriously. It was such a sad zoo with many sad caged animals (monkeys, goats, ostrich, a puma, snake, birds, flamingos, pigs, donkeys). The place actually looked abandoned except for a dozing security guard. We asked "how much?" and he said "free". How do they expect to pay for renovations if they... More

On the face of it, there is not a whole lot that is special about this zoo; however, once you get a chance to explore, there is a lot going on. The zoo is primarily run through volunteer work, and is currently reinventing itself as a habitat-centered zoo. There is a lot of construction work, and this zoo is clearly... More

Nice park with a lot of shadow and a lot of history. Animals are well taken care of by skilled professionals and volunteers. Kids will love the playground which is very adequate for parties too!

As a local, I visit the Zoo regularly. True, they have had some really rough times, since they depend a lot on help from the "outside world", especially moneywise and the finish line is not in sight as yet. However, it is amazing to watch the growth and improvement in such a relatively short time. The management is outstanding and... More
