The fort has a scenic view of the sea to the west and the land scape to the east . The atmosphere is one of a kind. The old vintage look and feel brings you back to the colonial days. At the entrance to the fort you can find a very informative resource center which is located next the restaurant... More

We were viewing this site as a wedding venue but were pleasantly surprised to be able to learn about the fort's historical past in the form of boards around the buildings. Between all the buildings, the restored site also offers some beautiful views over the bay. There is so much history in the fort/Dominica that needs to be appreciated and... More

The fort itself is pretty cool, but the views of the surrounding area are awesome. You can walk around the fort and experience an important part of Dominican history and take in some great views of the Portsmouth area. Be sure to review a trail guidebook and check out some of the hiking trails nearby - some of the trails... More

We enjoyed our visit around the fort and finding out the history of the buildings. There is also a shop and food available to buy there. We spent the afternoon looking around and enjoyed this trip very much.

Sympathetically renovated old fort, but there really isn't much to see yet. Hopefully, future works will change that. Allow about 30-60 minutes for your visit.

Fort Shirley is located at the northern end of Portsmouth Bay just a short drive from the town. It has been restored brick and block by block by locals to its former glory. Nice grounds for quiet reflection, hiking the trails and beautiful views from the cannon vantage points overlooking the bay. You can go inside the restored officer's mess.... More

Located on the northwestern coast of Dominica, the little peninsula containing Cabrits National Park, home to Fort Shirley, is bordered on the north by Douglas Bay and on the south by Prince Rupert Bay and the village of Portsmouth. The Cabrits headland is made up of the remains of a volcanic crater that protects Prince Rupert’s bay, the best anchorage... More

Stopped to have lunch and see some of the History of the island! This is a well restored site with a lot of posted information on the history of the island! There are also 3 hikes that lead you to different views of the carribean, and allow you to see some of the site that has not been restored yet.

Not anything like as good as Fort Brimstone, on St Kitts. Suffers from lack of truly good presentations. Restoration well executed, but there is no real effort at story telling.

Well restored fort with small and informative museum . We went hiking and explored some amazing outpost vine covered and really interestin. Saw lots of birds crabs and various lizards as well as one pretty little snake. The trails are not that long and very pretty. The one thing is some of the signs are not clear they lead into... More
