I was initially skeptical about this experience. But it is definitely something to see and do. Kurt Jeremy from Khatts Tours made this experience so pleasant because of his knowledge and care. We were only with him for a few hours but he explained so much about the island and did not let us miss out on experiencing the gorge. I got stuck under the waterfall and he was able to help me get my foot out from under a rock without any injury. I was watching other guides and Kurt was so much more helpful than the other guides. He took the time to get to know us and is someone you should request next time you’re in Dominica. Thank you Kurt!!!

Had the best tour guide ever! If hospitality was a person it would be him, Kurt! He was awesome he made sure we felt safe, and allowed us time take photos while enjoying the scenery. I felt one with earth, this was a great experience 10/10!

We did a ship shore excursion to Titou Gorge on Dec 19. Due to very heavy rain the days prior the currents were too strong to make it all the way to the waterfall but the guides ensured we had a memorable experience regardless. The gorge is beautiful and it was a fun time swimming and floating in it. Recommend the HHV Whitchurch & Co tour company.

GGreat experience, we did with a tour guide because the weather was not that great and the water was rough! The swimming was refreshing and seeing the cathedral waterfalls was amazing! I loved that the tour guides were on the alert to keep people safe, even the ones that were being cheap and didn't pay! Lol... Vibes were nice here.

Kurt Jeremy from Khatts tours was booked through Fort Young hotel. Kurt was very knowledgeable about island flora and fauna, island life/history! We did a tour of Trafalgar falls and the Titous gorge with a few stops along the way. Kurt escorted us to the falls in the gorge safely and professionally and provided some entertainment as well. We really enjoyed his company and the information and experience he provided. Highly recommended!

After hike to the Valley of Desolation on the way back we stopped for quick swim in Titou gorge. The elevated water level is created by a wall keeping the water level higher allowing swimming in the gorge. Water was pretty cold, very refreshing after 4 hours of hiking.

A short, lovely trip into a small gorge where you can swim in the cold water to a small waterfall or float in your life jackets. We were alone there and that was a good thing, there is relatively little space in the water. You get a waterproof bag for your cell phone so you can take photos

What fun! I was a little anxious to go through the gorge but it was great experience. We did wear life jackets and had a guide and I’m glad we did. He explained what we had to do. Swimming against the current wasn’t too bad, but you do have to swim. You don’t always touch bottom. It’s very scenic. Good way to see the gorge where Jack Sparrow jumped in Pirates of Caribbean movie

The trip through the Gorge was so worth it. I can be a little claustrophobic but never felt uncomfortable swimming to the waterfall and back. The water is cold but not numbing. It was so worth it. See the blue skies above framed with the lush tropical plants was beautiful and the water fall at the end is so powerful.
Of course, seeing the location from a scene from the Pirates of the Carribean was an added bonus!!!

Just an amazing place to discover. The water is not very cold, despite a first impression. Still, you need to be a decent swimmer if you want to pass the gorges to the fall, as the water stream is quite strong, and you need first to swim against it, and than to avoid nasty collisions with the rocks on your way back. Quite an unique place worldwide!

Written October 10, 2016
Hi,
We are considering doing this when we visit in November. My wife is not a very strong swimmer and is a bit wary. Is there a current, is it deep? Would this be suitable for a non/not very confident swimmer?
Many thanks

I can't swim at all and I enjoyed it. They have life jackets and very helpful staff. She will be fine.

Are there secure lockers to leave your things in?

We also used a Tillak Kiwanda Dry Bag and took our valuables in the water with us. As an added precaution, I also put our phones, keys, money and credit cards in an additional Pelican box inside the dry bag. Be sure to roll the bag at least 3 times to ensure a good seal. I also kept some air in the bag so that it would float on top the water. Nothing ever got wet and we never had to worry about our stuff getting stolen. NOTE: You cannot submerge the bag otherwise it will get wet inside, the front little zipper pocket is not waterproof, I would get a light color as black absorbs heat making the bag hot inside which is bad for electronics also if you get yellow it acts as a flag so boaters can see you easier.
We also brought a cheap $10 sports equipment net for carrying our snorkel gear in. It doubled as a sandal bag we could take in the water with us so we didn't have to worry about someone stealing our sandals (it has happened before).

How far from the cruise port is the gorge and are cabs reasonable and reliable?
Written January 13, 2015
The gorge is a good distance from the port. We went with the excursion from the ship. We are glad that we did, because the tour came back late and the ship waited. However, if you go on your own the ship won't wait.
