My partner and I drove to Middleham Falls and hiked it without a guide. We mostly powered through so the hike took about two hours roundtrip, with a brief stop at the top to admire and climb closer to the falls. We are both in our late 30s/early 40s and fairly fit. The hike is a steady ascent to the falls and then descent back. We saw other couples and even families with children (maybe 8-12 years old) also hiking it. If you don't power through, it's doable, if you go slow and take breaks. Just know that it is a workout. When we went, it was "dry" season but some of the path was still wet and muddy. There are also two shallow creek crossings but nothing that upset our hiking boots.

If you have your own car, this is one of the few more challenging hikes you can do without a guide. As of December 2024, If you follow Google Maps to Middleham Falls, you will hit a rocky narrow road. Go down it. From there, you'll hit a housing (or hotel?) development that looks like it's being built for Hobbits. At some point, it will appear that the road dead ends into the housing development but keep going. You'll eventually hit a parking lot with a proper picnic/bathroom structure. The trail starts there. The trail is very clear to follow all the way to the falls and back. We had no trouble finding it without a guide, although there were several hikers with guides. When we got to the falls and scrabbled closer over the rocks, one of the other hikers' guides did tell us which way to climb when he saw us going a bad way, but otherwise, we had no trouble on our own. We didn't swim, as the spray from the falls was intense and it wasn't the relaxing swim we desired, but we saw others swimming. They said the water was cold and felt good.

The hike to Middleham Falls is well marked and safe. There are no river crossing NY a and one small stream crossing. This out and back trail is 1.7 miles with an elevation gain of 639’. A guide is not needed unless you want some help to find the best scrambling location to get to the pool at the base of falls. There is a comfortable and safe viewing platform available at the falls. The hike was a lot of up and down with many steps. There were lots of tree roots and it was muddy in some spots but it’s been raining on and off the last couple days. There was a $5 USD charge per person the enter down road to trailhead.

Also area at the end of the trailhead is under major construction. It didn’t affect us. The attendant that we paid for pass to said park wherever you can and that worked fine.

This was our 3rd visit to Middleham Falls, but more than 20 years have passed since our last visit. The hike was moderately strenuous but well worth it and our guide, Chadi (chadi.767treks on Instagram) was patient and wonderfully helpful when we needed it. We were two older, fairly fit women and our 19-year-old, extremely fit nephew. While we ladies rested from the hike in, Chadi took our nephew to the pool and directed him as he climbed and jumped off multiple times. Well worth the hike and delightful along the way. We saw Jaco parrots several times! Along the way, we saw several Chadi is a wonderful guide and I dearly love Dominica!

So we had just hiked boiling lake 2 days before and were still sore from that 8.5 mile hike, so this Middleham Falls hike was a little more than we anticipated but it was worth it.

Just to be clear, this hike is a little shy of 3 miles and is between 1050-1150 feet of elevation climb. You cross a small stream, hike up a hill, it goes mostly flat for a while and then you have steep climb down to the falls. On a dry day, it would take about 45 minutes to get to the falls. On a wet day, it took us an hour because we were slipping all over the place. There is a small amount of scrambling on this hike.

But wow- when you get to the falls, it is stunning. I wish I could upload video as the pictures don't do it justice. It is well worth the trek to get back to see the falls

I travelled to Dominica alone to trek The Middleham waterfall and the boiling lake and it was a fabulous and enchanting experience. An absolutely awesome trek through such awesome and jaw dropping beauty that is Dominica. It isn’t called the nature isle for no reason. The trek was about an hour and is a must for anyone who has a love for nature and hiking. I would definitely recommend using a guide because it is easy to get lost. I used Chadi, he was the exact mix of professional, deeply knowledgeable of all aspects of the flora, fauna and nature. We even heard the famous 'Hunger Games' Mountain Whistler bird. It was captivating and an experience I'll never forget. The falls were worth the trek, so high and spectacular, we got into the water and the power was magical. Look for chadi.767treks on instagram. You won’t be disappointed

If you’re not a fan of hiking don’t do this. This hike was awesome. Early morning hike took like 45mins to an hour. A lot of trees, forestry; hence the reason it’s cool and chilly between there.

A 45 minutes hike to reach this beautiful waterfall, medium to easy level of hiking, i did it as a solo traveler with Chadi Symes as guide and was really fun. It really helped me with my photos for my instagram as long as i am a solo traveler is hard to get good shots if people have not a good eye for photography. So Chadi made two in one : guide and photographer! Make sure you take care of you guide, because he takes care of you! Highly recommend this waterfall, as I said the hike is not long and not difficult.

The falls are beautiful as advertised! Getting there is tougher The trailis very wet, crosses many small creeks and there were numerous muddy sections that were unavoidable. Then it got really tough. Many areas with steps were missing. Some reqired up to 3-4' stretches. Total is about 3.5 miles, but feels like 6. Time required is about 1 hour per mile. I threw away my shoes after finishing. Might be much better during a sdry season.

Relatively easy hour-long hike IF it's dry. If raining, this will be slippery, muddy, and treacherous, so be sure you don't mind that :) On your way up you'll see the Dominican rainforest in all its lushness. Your reward is a gorgeous tall waterfall spilling into a series of pools. It's cold and bracing but a lovely swim. Get lunch at River Rock afterward!

Such a fun and beautiful hike! I did this hike with a guide named Chadi (@islandadventure_767 on instagram). He was a fantastic guide and ended up coordinating a whole day of amazing hikes for me and my partner. He was so knowledgeable about the area and also took us to some awesome secret spots we would never have found on our own. Truly and amazing and fun day with Chadi, I cannot recommend him enough!
