A nice half day visit to see some endemic plants and some foreign plants, plus a butterfly garden and a Japanese garden. Very reasonably priced and great for kids.

The Botanical Gardens show off the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic. The architect did a masterful job of designing the grounds. I love the Japanese gardens I also enjoyed the walking tour. This is well worth the 200 pesos or 4 American dollars.

Huge, relaxing and beautiful garden with lots of various plants, a perfect place for family to relax during the weekend. There is a train can take you around the garden if you don't want to walk too much.

I took a taxi from my hotel to arrive soon after first light. You do not have to wait until the official opening time to gain access. The prime reason for my visit was to see some endemic birds which I managed to do quite successfully. Black-crowned Tanager,Hispaniolan Parakeet, Hispaniolan Woodpecker, Palmchat and Vervain Hummingbird. I also wanted to find West Indian Whistling Duck on the stream but all paths that led there were closed so I had to find a very small one through undergrowth to the stream where I was successful in seeing the ducks. Now I had the problem of getting back to the hotel as mistakenly I had thought a taxi would be easy to find. I walked a couple of k back to the Holiday Inn where I paid over the odds for the return journey. I suggest you book a return time with the taxi that takes you to avoid the issues I had.

Immerse yourself as you breathe fresh air at the National Botanical Garden. The garden exhibits a collection of extraordinary plants and trees from the world. The staff were very knowledgeable and accommodating. The cost was $200 pesos for locals and $500 pesos for foreigners.
