what a great coupe of hours on the water with Derek. Derek made the whole process easy. connected him via email and set up the whole trip. he sent a taxi to pick us up at our hotel and meet him at the start of our journey. He has great high quality boards and gives you a quick lesson if you need it. we were all up standing right away. It was windy at our hotel so I contacted Derek to make sure the trip was still on . He assured me that the winds were much lighter on his side, and it was . The whole trip is traveling with the wind. We paddled by amazing sites and learned allot of the island. Stopped and snorkeled for a bit on Hog island, then headed back on the boards to our ending spot, a beautiful cove. the taxi was waiting for us at the end to take us back to our hotel. Highly recommend this excursion. It is such a great fun adventure run by a great guy. contact Derek you will not regret it!

We met Derek at Le Phare Bleu for a down wind paddle boarding tour through Woburn bay, a quick stop on Hog Island, secret harbour and ending at Las aux pines. He provided nice boards, was easy to correspond with to arrange the tour, and knowledgeable about the island and area. Super nice relaxing paddle and even learned about the innocuous but dangerous machineel tree! Note: Don't stand under one in the rain. We are seasoned SUPers who own our own boards. The tour started off baby littlw winsy due to the weather. Highly recommend taking a tour vs renting your own for the day as you'll get to see more of the area and have a nice tour with a nice guide.

We appreciated this fun eco tour. Derek Pickell picked us up. Once at the beach he explained everything to us and were in the ocean and standing up in not time. We went at an easy unhurried pace while Derek talked about the island and answered all of our questions. Halfway through the tour we stopped at a beach and went snorkeling. Derek carried our masks and snorkels. We could snorkel in shallow water, or venture out to deeper water. I saw an octopus and many other interesting sights including assorted sea urchins and many colorful fish. After snorkeling for quite some time, we resumed our tour and when we ended we were driven back to our villa. Derek also offers an eco tour with Conservation Kayak at Whisper Cove Marina. We would do both again. One of the few activities that we did that offered T-shirts. Credit cards, USD, and EC accepted.

We came in by cruise ship and didn't want to book a tour through the ship. We wanted something a little more authentic and quiet. Derek was great to work with from start to finish. He responded quickly on email to book the tour, set us up with transport to & from the cruise ship port and met up with us to paddle board into the ocean. It was a little windy the day of our tour but it worked out well to paddle around the island and snorkel around a couple of reefs.

I highly recommend Derek for your SUP adventure in Grenada.

Make sure to go to La Plywood Beach Bar Cafe per Derek's recommendations afterwards. They have the best fish tacos and the beach is beautiful!

**Leary (the taxi cab driver for transport) was awesome! Thanks Derek!

Thank you so much for your review Mandy. I apologize for the delayed response. I'm glad that you had such a great experience in Grenada with Sup Grenada, La Plywood and Leary. We all really appreciate when cruise ship passengers book their own trips, get an authentic view of the island, and put extra money into the pockets of those living on the island rather than straight back onto the ships. Thanks again, Derke

I finally got a chance to try stand up paddleboarding! Or SUP as it is known. It took a thousand mile trip to achieve this goal, but hey, what better place to start out, in a tropical bay?

I noticed, via the ever handy TripAdvisor, that there was a SUP Company in Grenada, called SUP Grenada. Even better, it was located on Morne Rouge Bay, right next to the Gem, where we always reside at on our vacations.

I inquired at La Plywood Bar (it’s real name) and was directed to the owner of SUP Grenada, Derek, just a few feet away on the beach. I made an appointment for Friday morning.

Derek went over the basics on the beach, explaining where to place my feet on the board, how to get up from the kneeling position. I asked how to get back on the board after falling, and he showed me two positions. He also said if I was about to fall, just jump off the board rather than hit the board on the way down.

With no further ado, we waded out and he told me to get on the board, on my knees, and start paddling out! Gulp! Just like that! Derek went off to get his board and I kept paddling.

I felt a bit wobbly.
Derek came by on his board and said it was time to stand up! Okay! Carefully I got one foot on the board, then the other one, then, slowly I WAS UP!

I felt a bit wobbly, but we started paddling around the bay. Derek explained turning, and back paddling, and holding the board steady as a big wave would approach. I concentrated on my paddling technique, and we were across the bay! I did keep focusing on balancing, and my technique, and had to keep telling myself to relax a bit. I’m in Morne Rouge Bay, this IS fun, what’s the worse that could happen, I could fall in the water?

SPLASH! In a split second I could feel myself shifting and hopped off the board! Okay, I still had the paddle and was attached at the ankle to the board. I first tried getting on the board from the side. Ugh. Not working. Derek suggested trying from the back. I managed to flop my way back on the board. (That had to look really graceful.) Okay, time to get up again!

I actually felt more confident on the board after falling off. I mean, what was the worse thing that could happen? We paddled around the bay a bit more. I was a bit tired after this lesson. I thought about taking the board out for more paddling, but didn’t need to overextend myself.

I was really pleased to SUP. celebrating at Sur La Mer Bar I can’t wait to try it again, on a local lake, next summer. This was an activity I’ve been wanting to try for a few years, and I made it happen!

If you are in Grenada, SUP Grenada is located at La Plywood Bar, which is at the near end of Morne Rouge Beach (also called BBC Beach), right next to the Sur la Mar Bar, at the Gem Holiday Resort. I was very pleased with my first paddleboard lesson with Derek and SUP Grenada.

My husband and I came to Grenada on a cruise ship, had been there once before, and decided we wanted to find something to do away from the big crowds. Found SUP Grenada here on Trip advisor and decided to book a trip. We had a wonderful time and everything went smoothly with transportation from and to the ship. Derek is a great guide, we've only gone paddle boarding a few times before, and he made us feel comfortable and safe, while taking us on a beautiful tour to a lovely little island for a little break on the beach, and around Woburn Bay. Next time we're in Grenada, we'll definitely be back again!

Thank you for your kind review, and I'm glad to have shown you something different on your second visit to Grenada. Going on a private stand up paddle board tour certainly is a great way to de-compress from the crowds of the cruise ship, and I'm looking forward to seeing you on your next trip! Derek

I did this with my 8 year old daughter and we both had an absolute blast. Next time, we will definitely look to book a longer trip.

I was a little nervous signing up for this tour, I am a 70 year old with some lake paddle board experience but have never experienced paddle boarding on the ocean. I needn't have worried! Derek is a wonderful coach and guide and he has great quality boards. Wonderful way to see parts of Grenada one cannot reach. Derek was also a wealth of interesting information about Grenada, all in all, an excellent tour, only wished it could have been longer. I will be back for more!

Thank you for your review Diana, and I thought you were a 70 year young, and for one knew that you were going to do great on the tour! Hopefully next time when you return there will be a big less wind, and we can extend the tour to visit some more areas of the East coast. Thanks again. Derek

I wasn't sure what to expect with this tour but we LOVED it!! Derek was very friendly and helpful. He was wise enough to recognize that the water was a little rougher than normal so he had my 10 year old daughter ride with him. This worked out perfectly! We saw some beautiful scenery as we got better at a new sport. Would highly recommend Derek and this tour!

Thank you for your review of your stand up paddle board tour in Grenada. I also had a great time meeting your family, and showing you the Grenada. If the conditions had been slightly calmer, I'm sure that your daughter would have done great on the tour by herself, but next time she can surely take her own board. Best wishes to the family. Derek
