My boyfriend and I were recently in Grenada for only 2 days and so were looking for activities to make the most of our time there. We contacted Derek via email with only 1 days notice. He was brilliant and kindly arranged a private tour for us the next day. Neither of us had ever paddle boarded before (although reasonably fit) Derek gave some instructions to start. Once off, we were both standing on the boards within a few minutes, so don't let the fact you haven't tried it before put you off. We had a really enjoyable time, Derek was very chatty and the tour was an excellent way to see the coast. We would both fully recommend this trip.

I wanted to do something special to surprise my mother on her birthday so we headed to BBC and went paddleboarding. This is a great beach for SUP to be located on. Derek was helpful and my whole family enjoyed doing something active and different.

Thank you for taking the time to review your paddle board experience with SUP Grenada. It was a great pleasure meeting the entire family and seeing everyone enjoying themselves so much on the water. I'm glad that your mother enjoyed her birthday surprise, and have enjoyed having her come back to paddle again.

We met Derek at Le Phare Bleu for a down wind paddle boarding tour through Woburn bay, a quick stop on Hog Island, secret harbour and ending at Las aux pines. He provided nice boards, was easy to correspond with to arrange the tour, and knowledgeable about the island and area. Super nice relaxing paddle and even learned about the innocuous but dangerous machineel tree! Note: Don't stand under one in the rain. We are seasoned SUPers who own our own boards. The tour started off baby littlw winsy due to the weather. Highly recommend taking a tour vs renting your own for the day as you'll get to see more of the area and have a nice tour with a nice guide.

I finally got a chance to try stand up paddleboarding! Or SUP as it is known. It took a thousand mile trip to achieve this goal, but hey, what better place to start out, in a tropical bay?
I noticed, via the ever handy TripAdvisor, that there was a SUP Company in Grenada, called SUP Grenada. Even better, it was located on Morne Rouge Bay, right next to the Gem, where we always reside at on our vacations.
I inquired at La Plywood Bar (it’s real name) and was directed to the owner of SUP Grenada, Derek, just a few feet away on the beach. I made an appointment for Friday morning.
Derek went over the basics on the beach, explaining where to place my feet on the board, how to get up from the kneeling position. I asked how to get back on the board after falling, and he showed me two positions. He also said if I was about to fall, just jump off the board rather than hit the board on the way down.
With no further ado, we waded out and he told me to get on the board, on my knees, and start paddling out! Gulp! Just like that! Derek went off to get his board and I kept paddling.
I felt a bit wobbly.
Derek came by on his board and said it was time to stand up! Okay! Carefully I got one foot on the board, then the other one, then, slowly I WAS UP!
I felt a bit wobbly, but we started paddling around the bay. Derek explained turning, and back paddling, and holding the board steady as a big wave would approach. I concentrated on my paddling technique, and we were across the bay! I did keep focusing on balancing, and my technique, and had to keep telling myself to relax a bit. I’m in Morne Rouge Bay, this IS fun, what’s the worse that could happen, I could fall in the water?
SPLASH! In a split second I could feel myself shifting and hopped off the board! Okay, I still had the paddle and was attached at the ankle to the board. I first tried getting on the board from the side. Ugh. Not working. Derek suggested trying from the back. I managed to flop my way back on the board. (That had to look really graceful.) Okay, time to get up again!
I actually felt more confident on the board after falling off. I mean, what was the worse thing that could happen? We paddled around the bay a bit more. I was a bit tired after this lesson. I thought about taking the board out for more paddling, but didn’t need to overextend myself.
I was really pleased to SUP. celebrating at Sur La Mer Bar I can’t wait to try it again, on a local lake, next summer. This was an activity I’ve been wanting to try for a few years, and I made it happen!
If you are in Grenada, SUP Grenada is located at La Plywood Bar, which is at the near end of Morne Rouge Beach (also called BBC Beach), right next to the Sur la Mar Bar, at the Gem Holiday Resort. I was very pleased with my first paddleboard lesson with Derek and SUP Grenada.

My husband and I came to Grenada on a cruise ship, had been there once before, and decided we wanted to find something to do away from the big crowds. Found SUP Grenada here on Trip advisor and decided to book a trip. We had a wonderful time and everything went smoothly with transportation from and to the ship. Derek is a great guide, we've only gone paddle boarding a few times before, and he made us feel comfortable and safe, while taking us on a beautiful tour to a lovely little island for a little break on the beach, and around Woburn Bay. Next time we're in Grenada, we'll definitely be back again!

Thank you for your kind review, and I'm glad to have shown you something different on your second visit to Grenada. Going on a private stand up paddle board tour certainly is a great way to de-compress from the crowds of the cruise ship, and I'm looking forward to seeing you on your next trip!

We had a great time learning a new sport. SUP is more challenging than it looks but Derek's laid back yet insightful teaching style got us cruising over the water in less than 20 minutes. BBC beach is a gorgeous, calm setting for beginners. We look forward to the Hog Island tour!

Hi Tamara, thanks for your review of your stand up paddle board lessons with SUP Grenada. Harder than it looks? Guess that's my fault for making it look so easy ;)
The beauty of stand up paddle boarding is that it can be as hard as you want. People can stay on their knees untill they are comfortable and confident enough to stand. Once standing, and turning on flat water is easy, it is time to hit the surf!
Glad you enjoyed your date!

On one of our visits to BBC beach my boyfriend mentioned that he wanted to try paddle boarding, so I decided that we'd try it for his birthday. I called Derek to find out more information and 5 minutes later we were confirmed! Paddle boarding was an amazing experience, as we got to see Grenada's beautiful coast and all its wildlife. Derek is an wonderful coach--very calm and reassuring--which was helpful since we were both beginners! People always complain that there isn't anything to do in Grenada, well this is a definite MUST DO. You will have such a great time! Needless to say we had a superb time and would definitely recommend this to ANYONE. Thanks Derek! :-)

Thank you for the review, and you are most welcome. It was my pleasure meeting you both.
It was very satisfying for me to have a local on tour with me, because too many of us never enjoy the amazing opportunities that the ocean has for us. Grenada is a watersports paradise, and whether it is paddle boarding, kayaking, kiteboarding or surfing, far too few of us take advantage of what we have here.
I hope to see you back on the water soon, and hopefully you'll bring some friends as well too introduce them to the sport as well.

My family of five recently went SUPing at BBC beach and had a fantastic time. It was the first time for all of us and we all were able to do it and we loved it (even my 9 year old daughter). The location is perfect -calm with beautiful crystal clear water. A great way to spend some time with the family at the beach.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for SUP Grenada. BBC beach is centrally located, yet goes largely undiscovered by many tourists. I'm glad that your family did discover our little corner of paradise, and that the whole family had such a great experience stand up paddle boarding.

Our adult children rented boards! A couple of them had experience, others not. They had great fun, the equipment was top notch. Nigel was super nice and helpful! Great to see new business on the beach!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for SUP Grenada. I'm glad that everyone had a great time paddling with us.
We did research many board manufacturers before settling on Bic, and appreciate that you notice the quality of the boards. They cost a little bit more for us than the cheap Chinese boards, but ultimately our customers have a better experience on better boards.
Thanks again, and please look us up for a tour air fitness class on your next visit.

We rented two Boards from SUP Grenade for a day during our visit. The staff at SUP Grenada helped those of use who had never been on a paddle board feel very comfortable and confident. We spent a sunny afternoon exploring the coast and seeing a unique perspective of the Grenadian coast line. If you are looking for a mix of activity and relaxation I would highly recommend stopping in here. An added bonus is the Plywood Bar where you rent the boards from. Great food and drinks are available there and they have specials on the weekends where they bring in out side attractions to add your experience. Can't say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back!

Thank you for your review, and kind comments for SUP Grenada. I'm glad that we could contribute to what I am sure was a great holiday in Grenada.
We specifically choose our location and equipment to make the sport of stand up paddling as accessible as possible to beginners, and enjoyable for experienced paddlers as well.
There is no fresher sea food or colder beer in all of Grenada that at La Plywood Bar and Cafe, where SUP Grenada's centre is located. It is a very friendly place to meet locals, ex-pats, and visitors who like to lime and enjoy some great food and fun.
Thanks again for the review, and I look forward to seeing you on your next trip to Grenada.

Hello, we are avid SUP people here in Colorado, have are own boards & go 7 days a week from April-Nov. We will be on the island from Jan -5-9 & are SO looking forward to paddling! Do we need to rent boards in advance or just shoe up? Hoping to go at least twice while we are there. Thanks, Lisa

we will be in Grenada on 9/2 leaving on 9/3 for Island windjammer cruise. we board at 12:30 pm on 3rd at Port Louis Marina.
Would paddle boards be available early in the morning? thought maybe we could get it in before we leave. How far are you from the Port Louis Marina?
Written February 20, 2017
Thanks for your inquiry. If we collect you from Port Louis at 7 30am there will be plenty of time for you to meet the ship for departure. We begin the tour about 12kms from Port Louis, so will provide transportation.
We have a minimum of 2 people to run a tour.
Please let me know if you would like to book a tour and I will send you a deposit payment request.
Thanks,
Derek

Greeting from rainy Seattle. We will be sailing for 8 days in/out of Grenada starting on April 2nd. Do you happen to rent out a SUP board/paddle for us to take with us on our boat? Fingers crossed - as we will be with our teenage daughters and this is a good way to keep them entertained !
Thank you.
Written March 23, 2015
Hi Jeanne, I do have boards available that you can take a board, and also have various sizes, so I'll be sure to have one to suite her size and ability.
For boards leaving the island, I require a $1000 usd deposit. The deposit can be made in cash, or paid via PayPal, and refunded upon your return.
The daily rate for rentals is $60 US, and includes a leash and paddle. Should you be looking for 2 boards, I can offer you the rentals for $50 each.
Thanks again for your inquiry, and hope to.see you soon.

we are going on a cruise and will be in grenada would like to know how much it would be for a tax from the ship to paddle boarding
Written March 1, 2015
Thanks for your interest in SUP Grenada. I suspect that a taxi from the cruise ship terminal will be about $65 e.c., or $25 US. I'll see some taxi drivers tomorrow, and will ask for a specific quote, and get back to you.
Thanks again,
Derek
