Amazing artwork
Nov. 2018 • Solo
This gallery has a tremendous collection of Haitian paintings, from famous painters to budding new artists. Value is reasonable, and Sharona curates to keep affordable art in stock for those of us visiting without a huge budget. Though she does take credit cards, so you can splurge a bit if inclined.

I didn't see a sign, but the gallery is near the Oloffson and on Rue du Chili near the dead end up a steep hill. My guide had never heard of the gallery, but Google Maps had, so we were able to find it, and Sharona opened up for us—it was a protest day and virtually the whole city was shut down for the march. And she was lovely and fascinating and has created a courtyard of mosaics out back. Her enthusiasm as well as the conversation I had with Richard Morse at the Oloffson made me wish I were part of the PAP arts community. Sharona's father-in-law had originally begun collecting art with the intention of opening a museum. This is really an amazing place, well worth stopping in.

An Exquisite art gallery in Port-au-Prince
Feb. 2018 • Friends
Port-au- Prince is a city of close to 3 million people, located in the centre of the country on the west coast. Rising up into the mountains, it is a maze of steep, narrow, curving streets plugged with traffic.
The El-Saieh Gallery is an oasis in this bedlam. Founded by Issa El-Saieh, a jazz band leader and patron of painters, it is now managed by his son and daughter in-law Jean-Emmanuel and Sharona El-Saieh. Sharona was our host and told us the remarkable history of the gallery.
As Issa’s collection increased in size (and it is huge, filling every room of the mansion, covering the walls, and stacked on the floor), his living quarters became smaller and smaller, until he lived in one small room, with a kitchen, and a bathroom. When he died, his son and daughter-in-law carried on. Their knowledge of the collection and the painters exhibited is remarkable.
The art ranges from paintings, beadwork, wood carvings and metal work, and includes Sharona's wonderful mosaics. I had not realized that any of the painting were for sale, so I will definitely return on another trip. The collection is truly outstanding.

Haitian Art History Comes Alive
Feb. 2016 • Friends
El-Saieh Gallery was founded by Issa El-Saieh, a jazz band leader and patron of painters. The number of paintings available to see or buy is simply staggering and absolutely fascinating. Art is available in every price range. Owners Mano and Sharona El-Saieh are the perfect hosts and personally know most of the artists, present and past, represented in this amazing collection.

A Secret Find Gallery!
Jan. 2016 • Friends
A friend recommended this private art gallery and we were staying just around the corner at the Hotel Oloffson so it was a perfect location for us. The gallery is in a quaint, local neighborhood, up a steep road and on the owners private land in a stunning house.

My group met with the owner, Sharona, and she was wonderful. She gave us the history of a few paintings and of the gallery when we first arrived-- it's been around for decades! We walked through the first level, which is mostly the work of street artists for reasonable pricing (without the hassle of being dogged down by vendors in the Marche' de fer).

Sharona then led us upstairs to the more "celebrity" section of Haitian artists, where prices ranged from $500- $15,000 if I remember correctly.. She told us countless stories about various pieces of art so if you're interested in buying, she's a great resource and if you're not, it's a wonderful introduction into Haitian art and a secret find in the city that I highly recommend.
