Absolutely the worst tour I've ever experienced, and I've been on many. Our guide was clearly inebriated & would basically read off street signs and occasionally ramble a short, made-up Bob Marley story. No depth or interesting historical info. The tour ends back near the office, where they pressure you to buy the music of a band that plays in a studio there. Upon returning, I shared my discontent with the manager woman & was met with standoffish verbal abuse. Please don't waste your money on this depressing insult to the legacy of Bob Marley & all the great music that came from this area.

If you are remotely curious about where reggae music was born or where Bob Marley spent his youth, you have to go to Trench Town. I contacted Sophia through the Trench Town Culture Yard website and she responded right away. I got to the Culture Yard by taxi from my hotel in downtown Kingston and Sophia arranged for her son Kash to give me a tour. You can choose from three tour options - I picked the priciest one (USD 30) that includes a tour of the Culture Yard and all the blocks of Trench Town. As a Bob Marley fan, this was a bucket list item for me.

What amazing insight into an iconic historical experience! The guide provided a great account of the history and all the great people of Trench Town. To stand in the room that inspired my favourite song was priceless! The only thing I suggested to the guide was they should compile an historical book to purchase since pictures weren’t permitted in some areas. Highly recommended!

The culture yard is a great place to come and learn about the community and history of trench town and all the reggae artists that originated from this place. The tour of the yard is quite interesting but what I found the most interesting was the short walk through the neighbourhood. You could really see how everyone knew eachother and cared for eachother and it was lovely to be able to experience that. Thanks culture yard for making it possible to visit.

It is a must for Marley fans. Bob’s guitar and bed and a tour bus. The walking tour led by Blackie was interesting seeing the area where many stars originated and hearing some good stories.

Any fan of Bob Marley of course knows of Trench Town. We took a day trip to Kingston & it was high on my list of things to see. It was so surreal walking the streets. The tour is well worth it cost.

We went on the short version of the tour. The guide made the experience visceral and personal. We got a new perspective on the meanings of various song lyrics, and the origin of reggae. Well worth it.
I do recommend going with a guide or driver.

Had a great tour at the Trench Town Culture Yard. Very interesting, and informative, tour (sorry I can’t remember the name of our guide). Detailed information about Trench Town, and the early days of Bob Marley. A must see.

This is not for the faint hearted.
Trench town is a very poor part of the already poor kingston.
This tour goes through where bob marley lived in trench town.
Its a different kind of tour and it does seem to suit people who want to see the true colours of jamaica and its amazing history rather than the commercial side.
Ive been to bob marleys home in kingston also but on the day I did both tours I loved this one so much more.
I never felt unsafe because everyone is so honest and friendly.
There was 3 german exchange studenst who come around every day to teach the children music.
Please remember this is a third world country so you will have to scratch the dirty surface to to find the gems that lie beneath
