About
Consisting of a series of natural limestone pools, the Blue Hole is a hidden gem that captivates travelers with its azure waters. It offers quite the adventure: swim in the pools, go cliff-jumping, swing from ropes into the waters, explore a cave, and take a 10-minute hike to the Secret Falls. There are bathrooms and changing rooms onsite, with lockers and lifejackets available for rent. There aren’t much crowds at the Blue Hole, especially from mid-morning onwards. The waterfall is best visited with a tour from Montego Bay or Ocho Rios, which often includes the option to also visit Dunn’s River Falls, or go river tubing. – Tripadvisor

- MarcusHuddersfield, United Kingdom2 contributionsIt’s an absolute must thing to do in Ocho RiosSo my family and I went to the Original blue hole in Ocho Rios and we thoroughly felt looked after and safe and immersed in the vibe and the culture. We we had a guide called Jay who was awesome and helped my children as we moved around the site. We went on 3 different types of activities from rope swing to high platform jumping to run and jumping in the waterfall. The music and the food and everyone was really chilled and helpful. Particularly found useful the changing rooms and the lockers although we didn’t use lockers as we had a vehicle. My children 9/11/12/14 came away saying it was the best thing we have done in Jamaica and I would recommend trying the local food it was very authentic as the staff eat from the same place so you know you are getting the real ting! Lol. Thank you Portia and team for making this visit so wonderful. The next time I’m in Ochie I won’t hesitate to come back and share this experience with others.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 14, 2024

- JLJ2231269 contributionsPerfect afternoon adventureThe Blue Hole was recommended over Dunns river falls, and it did not disappoint. Run by locals (who climb like Billy goats), it was a terrific afternoon adventure. Touristy, but go anyway. Water is brisk and clear. Jumps are fun (and totally manageable). Don’t do leg day ahead of time….plenty of climbing to be had (again, totally manageable if you can typically walk a flt of stairs and a mile of uneven terrain). Ask your driver to take you to THEIR favorite place for food afterwards. We went to Scotchies and it was da bomb dot com. Drive from Trelawny was about an hour, give or take. Total time, four hours. Wear old tennis shoes (not t flops) that you don’t mind getting wet, or rent water shoes there. Shout out to Tyrone D (the Billy goat) and Javon (great driver). Really enjoyed this activity. Great for kids (over five) and adults. Not accessible for those with mobility impairments.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten February 18, 2024
- L0veLiveLifeBurlington, Vermont3 contributionsFamily fun activityOur tour guide for the day recommended to include a visit to Blue hole and we are glad we did. Per our 11 year old son, it was the most fun he ever had in the water. Water was refreshing with gorgeous views. Water shoes were needed, a guide is assigned to each group who was with us for the entire activity.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 27, 2024

He even shared his very talented music writing skills with us as we walked. Very impressive. We loved the adrenaline surge jumping into Blue Hole. It was a blast and I highly recommend it. Don’t worry. Jumping is optional.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 2, 2024

And that's saying something! The Blue Hole looked good on the Internet and Trip Advisor, but we weren't prepared for just how great this place is. We intended to stay out of the water and take photos 😉, but the jumps and swings are so enticing, we did the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed it! And the pools in sunlight are just as blue as they appear in the photo! Wow! The guides are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. And capable of carrying all your stuff, cameras and phones! Not only that, they always seem to be in the right place, at the right time to take a photo of you with your camera!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 5, 2024

Not only do they introduce the Jamaican jungle plants as you trek through the awesome pathways all around the waterfalls, they guide you on a fun-filled wet adventure down the falls. Shout out to Tyhair, our tour guide who took several pictures of us with our Waterproof camera and literally CARRIED me across some areas that my artificial heel would have given me problems. We were a group of 15, with small kids, and he was awesome for the the security but also taking the best pictures for us. GREAT !!! For Dunn's river, we start with a guide for 10 minutes (not from Karandas) and then switched by our own. It was much fun and the kids appreciated a lot Highly recommend this tour operator.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 19, 2024
- Sarah Jade P5 contributionsBlue Hole Ocho RiosWe haven’t had the best experience in Jamaica until we met a local named Javier while he was out with his family. We started talking and he told us to let him know what and where we wanted to do while in Jamaica. He brought us to the Blue Hole where he works and it was one of the best experiences we’ve had while on a vacation. Javier was amazing as a guide helping on the stones and navigating us through the water. We got the best pictures and videos that he took from different angles and styles with my phone. He even does his own tricked out jumps that will amaze ya. He is a good guy. Definitely would recommend him for the ultimate experience.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 1, 2024

I love nature i love refreshing cold water love off the beaten paths and love the country side . This place has it all we came all the way from Montego Bay and our driver was from Tcjtours we booked privately the handle everything and ensure you get the best guides for the tour . You will need a guide to advise you of how things work there are also many entry points as ive learned coming here . You might want water shoes but i wore my slippers and was barefoot for some parts . We had a coconut inside the jungle as well and the locals banged there music . I would say they were much more pleasant and easy going here than the Dunns River Falls which we did after this but we loved both of them . Highly recommend anyone looking for some beauty to visit the area and bring cash for entrance and tips they loved USD .

The absolute highlight of our holiday and one of the best experiences of our lives. Dunns River Falls is so busy and this was much more intimate and more things to do. You can ramble, swim, swing-jump, cliff-dive, take a nature walk and relax too. Our guide Kenny (or Keneil) was absolutely fantastic. We can’t recommend him more for making the experience so fun but unforgettable but safe too. Highly recommend booking a private tour and going as just your group rather than a big group through a hotel. It’s more expensive that way but we got to do each cliff dive as much as we wanted and spend as long as we wanted in the water and exploring whereas with the group tours there are large queues with long waits, you can only do everything once and the guides are constantly rushing everyone. Our tour company was called Bradshaw tours via Jeffit Bradshaw, and our driver Mervyn was excellent too.

A set of swimming holes on the river. Can get very busy as there are a couple different operators. Costs $20 to go and you have to have a guide which is another $20 to $30 depending how many in your party. Takes about 1.5 hrs if you go steady, you can stay longer and people watch, buy beer, weed and some food inside. Time you pay your taxi and entrance can get kinda costly just to jump off a swing. We added 9 Mile so the day was around $600 for 3 people. So be the judge. I could have just gone to 9 mile and back again

We booked this tour through our resort agent to try something adventurous. Although definitely exciting, this tour is designed for anyone to participate. I was a bit intimidated at the cliff jump into the blue hole as they told me you need to be a strong swimmer. The definition of strong required for this is able to float without drowning and in my opinion anyone that can swim at all can do this. They take you to a beautiful waterfall and you jump off a platform about 5m high into the bottom of a waterfall, it’s really fun and the tour guides/lifeguards are at the platform and in the water with you. You also wear a life jacket for this. As expected when you jump in you get a bit of water pressure from the falls but with a life jacket and the water flow, you float to an area 20m away and walk back onto the shore. It’s very safe. One of the girls in our group can’t swim and the life guard offered to jump in with her for comfort and she did it and loved it.
The river float was pretty chill with a couple of spots you pick up speed for a few seconds but is otherwise a peaceful float through a scenic river.
The zip line portion was also fun. You go over some forest areas and then end the zip line flying over the river. There are some portions that give you a rush as it’s fairly high up and you land on platforms in trees. The guides tie you off when you land between lines and seem very experienced.
At the end of the activities they took us to jimmy buffets margharitaville in Ocho Rios. The restaurant has a fun vibe but the food is mediocre at best. Probably the worst meal I have had in Jamaica.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this tour. It’s an adrenaline rush and a fun day. The company Chukka is very organized and I had no concerns for safety through the whole experience. The reason I would give it a 4/5 is that they pick you up 7:30 and you don’t eat your mediocre lunch until 3 so I recommend bringing some snacks. Also, they tell you it’s fine to leave your bag on the bus at the blue hole jump, but then when you get to the river float they make you rent a locker for $8US. It’s only $8 but we brought a waterproof case to bring our phone and cash with us on the float and just wanted to leave some shoes and towel on the bus but aren’t allowed, it’s a bit of a cash grab.
Bring some cash to tip the tour guides, they are fun and did an A+ job making sure everyone was safe and had a good time. Jerome our guide and Jean, our driver were awesome.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Blue Hole. We visited as part of a cruise excursion that also included tubing down a river. I highly recommend visiting as some sort of combo with another activity because this is a short, albeit exhilarating, activity.
Our stop only involved the more developed falls where you jump off a developed platform into the basin of a waterfall. Total rush. The water is cold and fast moving, but the guides expertly scoop you up and make sure you get to the safety lines. We were allowed to jump twice before moving on to the zipline/rope swing, then we were done.
Water shoes are definitely needed and you are expected to tip your guides. All told it’s a little expensive for the length of the activity, but my whole family absolutely loved it.
My only complaint is that they could clean up a little around the shores. There were rum bottles and garbage in piles off the sides (which is pretty par for the course around Jamaica - must have something to do with infrastructure), but for the price you'd think they'd haul it away.

We booked our trip in advance through the travel agent we were using . We were staying in Montego Bay but whist traveling from there is not an issue for us , for some people it may well be due to travelling and road conditions.
Our two guides at the falls where great , Romani like the lettuce and Lucy ( nick name )safety was first .
My partner is not a confident swimming and the general support these guys gave in just checking that she could traverse through the water, not even jumping, was fist class .Often, conveying a safety message can appear dull, but these guys gave the message and where all over ensuring everyone had a good and safe time .
There had been rain, and the river was running strong but water was still turquose.
It was interesting to note that other operators let people enter areas , climb down the fast flowing falls that both these guys thought was unsafe, and thankfully they did not allow this to happen
Both these guys made our experience in Jamaica fantastic , enjoyable and safe so thank you .

The views are beautiful and the water is stunning. However, the staff are horrendous myself and my cousin came to visit and we have never felt so uncomfortable. Our tour guide was rude, pushy and arrogant. He made us feel like we weren’t safe! After the first jump he asked us if we had boyfriends and when we said yes he said he was better and could please us more. This made us feel uncomfortable the whole way around. He continuously pushed us to look at stalls. He made what should be a beautiful relaxing trip so horrible. Another couple who were with us commented on how weird he was with us.
At the end of the time (which was only 45mins) we felt completely unsafe and horrified at the things we had experienced on a PAID tour!!! When we returned to the to car park, our driver instantly noticed him being weird. We tipped him as we felt obligied too and he told us it wasn’t enough and wanted more (our driver stepped on at this point). As our driver sorted this, we went to use the changing rooms and on our exit he had waited and cat called us… again!
The experience was completely ruined by the guide. Who made us feel so unsafe and on edge (after doing many excursions whilst here we haven’t felt this way before!). If you’re a young female do NOT go on this trip.

We did this on a rainy day and it was the perfect activity.
This activity would get choked up with large crowds. It took us 1 hr in total.
This is not for the faint hearted and is better for people who can swim (although life jackets are available). This activity would be shut down by lowly personal injury lawyers in the US. You jump from rock ledges from waterfalls into the river below. The water is 20ft deep so no issue about hitting the bottom.
I would not do this with young children or weak swimmers.
A local "guide" will escort you around the blue hole. They are not employed by the Blue hole ($25 to get in per person) and they expect a tip.
Remember average income in Jamaica is $110 USD per week.

Our morning at Blue Hole in Ocho Rios was simply fantastic. We were led down to the stunning waterfalls by a friendly guide who took a series of great photos for us. While we personally chose not to participate in the cliff jumps (they are optional), they definitely promise a significant adrenaline surge - perfect for the more daring visitors.
Visiting in the off-season and early in the morning made our experience much more peaceful, as the place tends to get crowded later in the day and during cruise ship season. If you’re planning a visit, we highly recommend aiming for an early start to your day.

Our driver, Mark Morris from Marks Tours (he’s the best!) drove us to the Blue Hole-admission was $20 per person (we had a group of 21).
We started with group photos, then most of our group jumped from the cliff. Afterwards, we moved on to the rope swing, where we were able to swing out and drop into the water. They have a professional photographer who took pictures (153) and sent us the link ($100).
You hike higher up and jump from an elevated platform then swing on another rope swing.
Be sure to pack your water shoes and waterproof case for your phone… they’ll sell you water shoes for $15 and the waterproof case is $10. Many in our group bought both. I didn’t intend to jump so I didn’t purchase. I still had to climb up to the top and walk across flowing water with the rest of the group and had no problem (rocks were not slippery).
Our family ranged from 7-years to 67 years. Everyone except the kid’s grandmother was able to participate in these activities.

How far is the platform from the water? My husband and I are in a debate after jumping this summer. He says it was a 10’ jump and I say 30’. What’s the correct distance? Thanks!
Written July 9, 2023
I’m not sure of the exact height of the jump. It felt like 10 metres, but was probably not much more than 5. All I know is that I would probably have not chosen to go there if I had known the reality beforehand. But, having survived, I felt good about it.

Or paddle in shallower waters. Life jacket won't conquer the fear tried it in Dominican Republic when missold a waterfall tour.

I didnt see any broken glass or sharp rocks. Thus, even no shoes would have been okay where we were, but I recommend them only for safety. I think any shoe with a strap to stay on would be fine. Sliders will definitely fall off.
