Our hotel offered shuttles to the island for $20 per person so we decided to head over one afternoon as a mini excursion. We were dropped off and as soon as we arrived on the island, we were offered lobster. Having never had it before, we decided to share one, which was $40. It was picked straight from the sea and tasted incredible. There were a few locals selling other things too, including red stripe for $5 a bottle and fruit. We asked for some coconut water and ended up with $30 worth of mango, pineapple and coconut as the guy wouldn’t take no for an answer. Make sure you take lots of cash as it’s quite expensive, but worth a visit for an hour or two.
Note there are no toilet facilities and the sand is very pebbly so no real option to sunbathe, but there are picnic benches

The snorkeling was the highlight for us. Some decent corral and inquisitive fish, quite a variety of fish.
If you are hoping for decent sized fish then don’t snorkel Jamaica the entire island is heavily over fished and there are very few places where the corral is worth snorkeling.
However this trip does give you some of the best corral I’ve found on the island.
The island itself was a 50/50 for me the positives were it feels like a fairly authentic experience, the vendors were not particularly pushy we got offered lobster, a beer and a joint and when we declined they did not push it any further with us. We were also welcomed and showed the path to go walk and explore the island.
Also our boat captain who we found on the beach gave us a fair price and did not rush any aspect of our trip, he let us snorkel for as long as we wanted and did not fuss about how much time we spent on the beach.
We paid 40$ per person and he would have discounted it if he had any other people join the tour that day, so we were a couple and it ended up being a private tour with just the two of us.
We tipped 1000 Jamaican dollars. (Which in hindsight is not very much)
Captain Kirk and Trudy - name of the boat.
1876 4574764 (phone number)
The island itself only has a fairly small area you can walk on but it was nice.
The parts of the trip I was not ecstatic about is as with everything Jamaican - there is plastic litter strewn across the place. You would imagine that between the vendors and the boats they would figure to keep the thing that is their livelihood free of waste.
The other part I am ambivalent to is having dived this island extensively the island has not got great stocks of lobster so not sure where all the lobster that is being fed to tourists are coming from not sure that I want to be supporting the sustained over fishing of what little is left.
However I do concede that the subsistence fisheries are seldom the root cause of over fishing so for me the jury is out on that one i personally do not eat fish in Jamaica.
Did I mention that the snorkeling was great and the island is pretty?
On a whole it was worth the visit.

Went with Captain Billy (southernmost glass bottom boat). Paid $35pp to ride to Booby Cay Island and do some snorkeling. Brought our own food/drink (would have been $55pp to add lobster, and $70pp for unlimited drinks). Not really sure how long we spent on the island but felt like 1.5-2 hours waiting for another group to finish snorkeling, get dropped off, and for the boat to come back to pick us up. Captain Billy's crew provided the snorkels and had life vests on request; had implied providing fins as well but none were found. Several people brought their own snorkel equipment, which was fine. Snorkeling was fairly short, maybe about 15 minutes, and the crew helped us find some good spots--saw sea urchins, flounders, and other fish, coral, and seaweed. Would definitely recommend!

We took a boat to this island after snorkeling. Our hotel arranged for the boat. Skip the island altogether unless you want to get ripped off buying old rough lobster. Nothing much to see on the island.

Clean up after yourselves !! These pictures are from June 19, 2020. Amidst the current Coronavirus shut down, people are boating to Bobby Cay Island for parties and gatherings, which is fine-UNLESS you leave Mounds of trash, dumped food, broken bottles, and other items. If you had room on the boat for all of the items that were used, then you had room to bag your trash & bring it back with you. Or, at the very least-Bag your trash. It is Disgusting, smelly, and unsafe to walk around without the possibilty of stepping on broken glass. This was done by Jamaicans-not tourist. Where is the Pride ? Where is the RESPECT ??! Shame on everyone who participated in the Lightening Storm party on the evening of June 18, 2020.

We booked with @Crisann Campbell of @Crisann Tours
in Negril. She is absolutely amazing with her tourists. They become instant family!
Captain Howie on the Glass Bottom boat "Elvira" and Crisann and her beautiful daughter Skylar, took us out to snorkel just on the reefs before Booby Cay Island. We saw a ton of fish, a cannon and a old ship anchor. It only took us 20 mins to get to Booby Cay from 7 mile beach. The ocean was little rough that day, or we would've climbed in the boat, right off 7 mile beach. Safety first.
When we got to Booby Cay, Our Captain Howie began to cook our lobster picnic (Lobster is in season until End of March) while Crisann, Skylar, Mike and I took a tour of the island on foot. It is a beautiful piece of paradise.
We made our way back, Skylar and I went and played in the ocean (it was raining, but it didn't matter)
There is shelter on the island, picnic tables, and a place to cook.
We had ru. Punch and Red Stripe all the way there and back as well. It was a really amazing day with amazing people. Book with Crisann Tours. You can find her on Facebook and also under Crisann Campbell on Facebook. Or call
+1 876-707-5769. She usually gets back to you in 15 about minutes. You will have a friend for life. She goes anywhere you want to go and will look after all your bookings and personal needs too. Be ready for an awesome time!

The island experience there was authentic with beautiful views, water, and great food. If you like lobster with garlic butter and chopped veggies, jerk chicken and of course red stripe. Look up....
Play Station for your trip there. Capt Lexus becomes your cook and tour guide if you wanna fish, snorkle or just go to booby island.

Enjoyed our snorkeling adventure complete with lunch on Booby Cay Island. The seas were rough and the wind strong due to an offshore storm but that didn't dampen our fun on this little island. Lunch was delicious - lobster was out of season so chicken was on the menu.

Took the opportunity to visit Booby Cay with our group. Captain Leon (located near Fun Holiday Beach Resort) was happy to take our small group to Booby Cay for a day of snorkeling and fresh lobster cooked to perfection over wood coals. Once Captain Leon took care of reviewing our safety supplies (first aid, fire extinguisher, life vests, etc) we were on our way for the perfect way to spend a breezy, sunny day in Negril. An inexpensive Must-do on your Negril trip.

We had a great day with Captain Ray and David on our trip to Booby Cay for our delicious grilled lobster and chicken lunch.
Ray picked up up at the Beach House Condos beach.
We had a nice ride out as we looked at the 7 mile beach coastline.
We arrived at the island and there were a few other boats there.
Captain Ray had a cooler of rum punch, Red Stripe beer and bottles of water for us.
Ray and the other captains had a few charcoal grills going to cook the lobster.
The lobster and chicken were grilled to perfection. We also had garlic bread and vegetables.
We went out to the water to cool off before and after lunch. The swimming area is shallow water. We wore water shoes because there are some exposed rocks.
This is the third we took this tour with Captain Ray. It is always one of the highlights of our week when we visit in Negril.
I highly recommend this excursion with Captain Ray.
Enjoy!

Hi!
Beside that delicious lobster that everyone is talking about, is there anything to eat on the island? My husband is vegetarian.

Is this good to do if cruising...coming from cruise port?..

I would do the Catamaran Tour before choosing the Booby Cay tour. It will give you a better experience of what Negril (ie cliff diving, snorkling, caves) is all about. Booby Cay is just a small island off the coast and there really isn't much to it other than a BBQ lunch.

Is there any public access to the water from Point Village Resorts to be able to swim across to Booby Cay?
Written January 16, 2018
No you have to take a water taxi or boat to get there but it is definitely worth the ride

Hi,
We are staying in the caves, do you guys collect or even better does the boat pass by ?

I assume you're gone now, but for next time....ask a local to contact Rickuoy "Junior" Phillips for a great experience. He became our friend a few years ago, and we now always make him a part of our entertainment while in Negril. This year, Junior took us and two friend-couples to Booby Cay, and prepared the best meal (and meal experience) of our lives. Prior best was salmon stuffed halibut in Alaska! The planned menu was wood grilled lobster and jerk chicken. Junior surprised us by adding black tuna he had caught the day prior. His spices and sauces were absolutely awesome. $60 per person, and we all happily tipped him. If you have phone service in Negril, Junior's # is 1-876-891-9230. This year and last, we bought day passes for Junior and Jamela to join us at CN for a day or two, where other guests have also become fond of him. He is now AKA Captain Junior, Chef Junior Professor Junior, and Dr. Junior! We posted a picture taken of him in 9/14 on Trip Advisor: "Junior taking ut to Juicy's"
Traveler photo submitted by Webe J (Apr 2015), although in 11/17, he was captain of Sea Shell rather thank Moon Star. Tell him Randy & Trish (and Renee Zellweger & Hugh Grant, and Snipe Dog & Poem) suggested you call!
FYI, I paid Junior a day in advance for Trish and me so he could prep. He is very trustworthy, and a wonderful person.

Is Point Village still there? Sailed round Booby Cay from the hotel.
Written February 16, 2017
Yes it is. Privately owned condos. But they rent them out.

Just wondering what you paid for the boat/snorkeling trip to Booby Cay so I have an idea of what to expect. Thanks!
Written January 14, 2017
We were quoted $60.00 at the Rockhouse but we were charged $70.00, so confirm the price before getting on the boat. I could have argued, but $10.00 doesn't break me. I felt sorry for the guys and gave them the extra $10.00 and a tip as well.

How do I get in touch with Captain Moses if I want to visit Booby Cay?
Written January 4, 2017

Captain Moses has a little shop between Alfred's and the Pineapple Beach Resort located in the middle of Seven Mile Beach. He also walks the beach in a white T-shirt with "Captain Moses" on the front of it in red. My sister and I have taken the Booby Cay trip with him for the past 5 years. He and his crew are tons of fun and his grilled lobster is the best I've ever had. Watch out for the rum punch. It sneaks up on you quickly. Tell him Kris and Jeannie say hello!

We are going to be staying at Sunset at the Palms on Booby Bay, how much should we expect to pay to get over to Booby Bay Island? Also can you snorkel from the beach and see much ?

We paid 60 dollars on the glass bottom boats. Confirm the price before boarding. I have heard they will try and gaffe you if you don't do this. They picked us up at the Rockhouse hotel where we were staying. I am not sure how you will meet them at your hotel.
