Don’t waste your time or money. Go to the local free beach that is way more beautiful. For starters, the security guy (Dean) charged us $1000 JA dollars per person. I only had $20 US. He kept the difference which is fine but at least offer change back. Parked and walked to the beach. No one was on the beach. Bar was closed. Restaurant had 4 meals you could choose from (I’m vegan and couldn’t eat anything). My bf and I decided to leave because it just wasn’t a good experience. Within 20 minutes the security guy (Dean) would NOT refund our money. He chose to watch whatever he was watching on his phone. Ultimately $20 is not worth it. I frequently come to JA and was very disappointed with this beach. I always wanted to go to Portland but it wasn’t worth the 4 hour drive from mobay. Check out the blue lagoon and go river rafting if you do go to Portland.

This is paradise on earth. We were just hustled and intimidated at Winnifred Beach moments earlier and decided to leave and actually enjoy a beach in Portland. Look no further! $1500 JMD for a tourist, $1000 JMD for a local, well worth the peace of mind you will have in terms of safety and comfort. This place is clean, pristine and beautiful. There is both the Caribbean Sea and the Frenchman Cove river on the same beach! Swings and sand, tables, etc. Everything there, no type of intimidation, a nice sense of security. Beautiful park, everything was amazing.

Beautiful beach. There is an entry fee that goes toward maintaining the beach. Cove is large, and the beach is rock free and sandy. There is a restaurant with waiters that will bring your food and refreshments to you on the beach. Bring cash in smaller denominations if you would like to order from the menu. Great beach for young children because of the soft sand and shallower water.

Beautiful beach and river! This beach is quaint, relaxing and clean. The staff are helpful and kind. There are swings along the beach and another in the river (great for photos!). There is a restaurant beside the beach that will set up a table and serve food and drinks right on the beach. I thought that the prices were reasonable.
I would recommend visiting here if you want to experience a beautiful beach in a less touristy but beautiful parish. There is also an entry fee (I believe it is per person). The drive is a bit bumpy and the roads can be narrow, if you are travelling through the mountains, but I would visit again.

This is my second time visting the Frenchman’s cove beach. First of all!!! Let me say beautiful 🤩 LOVEEEE the scenery and comfort. My first visit it took a while to get the lounge chairs and the beach wasn’t full so it wasn’t so busy. My second visit took forever to get the chairs! The beach was full. I saw workers sitting down in corners and talking on the phone. The water seemed to be rough, so I’m assuming the lifeguards would be on high alert ‼️. That was not the case. I saw them talking to visitors and sleeping, not doing their jobs. After receiving my chairs, a lot of black birds started to swarm the beach. The took a dump on my boyfriend’s arm so we had to keep shifting around to prevent anymore of that. I decided to order food from them seeing that they don’t allow outside food or drink. I ordered a hotdog with fries and a burger without cheese with fries around 2:10, the cashier lady aka the waiter told me my order would take 10-15 minutes that escalated to an hour and half. When I finally got my order the fries were soggy + no salt+ the hotdog was sooo tiny the bread swallowed it and the burger had noooo moisture no presentation! Just not good. I spent $3600+ JMD for crap food and an entry fee of $1500 JMD to get very poor services. I tried speaking with one of the workers and they did not respond, I only got ignored. I don’t recommend this beach at all. Not coming back!

Arriving at this beautiful area one could see it has seen better days. 1800 Jamaican Dollars each person to enter was too much for the privilege. Take your own chair, each sunbed 300 Jamaican Dollars a day. Once we got over the shock of how unkept the Bar/restaurant was, a new coat of paint would have helped, we went with the flow. A very nice guy helped us with our beds and offered to bring drinks to us. He encourage us to order lunch if we wanted it, which we did. This was 11 am. We did not want to eat until 2 so at 11.30 we pre ordered for 2. We wandered up, a trestle table by the waiter who took our order, which again had seen better days and we waited. After 35 minutes a girl came up to ask what we were waiting for, we told her, she went away. By 3 we were still waiting then being given the excuse the fish had been burnt. We were told to wait 15 minutes longer but refused paying for our drinks and left. We were under the impression this was a Marriott? If it is, Marriott need to get down there and review its premises and operations. Pity because it really is a beautiful place.

The surroundings are amazing the view is breath taking but there is no Vibe. I paid $10USD to enter but would have loved to have a little reggae music in the background . As I said I don’t know who is in charge but please take note to make this experience unforgettable we need a little more effort to make such a lovely environment more welcoming.

We visited in December as we were in the area seeing family. It’s winter so we knew the waters would be choppy. As we approached the gate we were given the option to turn around before paying admission (1500JMD cash). The security guard wanted us to be aware the beach wasn’t its best; rough waters and seaweed patches.
Nonetheless we paid and entered a family of 5 adults and 2 children. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful beach, the family took Pictures on the swing in the river and the swings by the beach! It was a good day out!!
In summer I can imagine it being a hot spot and rightly so!

Small beach (modest entry fee required) in a cove - and yes, a river does run through it! Good place for families with small children as it is very manageable. Our daughter (12) enjoyed the swing over the cool river and the warm surf washing into the cove from the sea. There is a passable restaurant/bar and waiters will serve you on the beach - my daughter loved the Orange Cake (we enjoyed the rum punches). Villas are available for rental. Clean toilet and shower facilities are available to beach guests. I’m told Tropicbirds nest on nearby cliffs and “ early birds” to the beach might see them flying out in the morning. Overall, this James Bond beach is actually quite nice!

Nice beach with a place to grab food and drinks. Costly $1500 Jam or $15 USD for entry.
Food is costly. But you can't bring in drinks or food so you stuck paying for it. Staff were assertive

Comment est-il suggéré de se rendre à frenchman's Cove à partir d'Ocho Rios et combien de temps faut-il prévoir ? Merci
Written September 27, 2018
Hi! Sorry for the delay!
I was staying in Port Antonio, so I took a local taxi (which I arranged the day before), I think he charged me 40usd round trip. If you have to get to Port Antonio the same day, check the Knutsford Express timetable as hurricane said, I don´t know at what time the last bus leaves.

Children 3 years old and under are free. Children over 3 years to 12 years old pay 5 USD.
Hope this helps.

Are we allowed to take food and drinks on the premises?
Written May 9, 2018
Yes, you can bring in food, for instance, jerk chicken from Boston Bay. They include breakfast with the room rate, so no worries there.

How deep is water over the swing at Frenchman's cove? Wanted to bring little kids not strong swimmers.
Thanks
Written April 12, 2018
It's probably hip high for an adult. So depending on the age of the kid it sould be fine.
