Not for the weak heart, fear of heights or narrow roads -- have good maps or GPS

We only drove part of the route in the area of PR 184 to check out the lechonerias (whole pig roasters) around km 27.7. The roads were reasonably maintained, only at times so... read more

Ok if you cant handle a ton of sphincter tight moments or having to change your shorts a few times dont bother driving this. Its hairpins, one lanes, blown out roads, just crazy stuff. My wife and I loved it! It was our honeymoon from west coast to near ponce it was just amazing. When we return we want to... More

Just got back from a trip from Puerto Rico where we decided to rent a jeep and drive there version of the Blue Ridge Parkway. After getting to the island I was dumb enough to read some of the reviews on here. They got me a little concerned about our safety. Well we decided to drive it anyway. We got... More

We only drove part of the route in the area of PR 184 to check out the lechonerias (whole pig roasters) around km 27.7. The roads were reasonably maintained, only at times so narrow it was harrowing when passing opposing cars. I can't imagine being a "back seater." Recipe of car sickness. My passenger seat brake wasn't working too well.... More

We did the "Ruta Panoramica" over 2 days east to west. It was quite an enjoyable trip and I would recommend it if you have the time. The road is not super-well marked but there are enough signs at each intersection where you have to change roads to make it. You have to be prepared for narrow roads and TONS... More

Do not listen to Google maps, do not drive this route if you are a tourist, stay away and take the long way around. Burnt out car blocking the narrow winding road that eats tires. Bamboo gates put out at random to collect tolls? If you value anything, stay away.

we started our drive in Maunabo and drove all the way across the Island to Mayaguez. and boy it was a trip!! the roads are very good for most of the drive, some sections are a bit bumpy tho, but nothing major. definitely bring a map, coz the signs are not always clearly visible, but for most part it is... When I asked Tripadvisor how to construct a walking holiday in Puerto Rico, I was met with a lot of silence. Except from one man, juancarlospr, who asked if I'd heard of the Caminata Panoramica. There's a scenic road that winds through Puerto Rico from east to west called the Ruta Panoramica. 31 years ago, an enterprising group of people... More

We did the part from Ponce to San Juan and it was well worth it. I know there are some reviews written by people that either don't know how to drive or are afraid to really go on an adventure and expect westernized security to be in place everywhere. If you are one of those prissy people then don't attempt.... More

This may not be every tourist's cup of tea, but if you like unspoiled mountain views, scenic rivers, remote high plains and lush green glades, this is a must-do. Be forewarned, although the pavement is generally very good, the roads are narrow and curvey and the Ruta is very poorly marked, so much so that some locals don't even know... More

Living in Miami, or anywhere in Florida, you don't get many hills and/or curves. It's all flat around here. So when I stumbled upon Ruta Panoramica right before I flew to Puerto Rico, I was thrilled. Road delivered everything I hoped for. Beautiful scenery, great driving roads, few "tricky challenging" curves, hills, cliffs... you name it. I enjoyed my time... More
