Every time we visit San Juan we always have to visit El Batey. The coolest bar in town. Stop in have a beer, meet some great people, and make sure you sign your male somewhere!

Every inch of the walls and ceiling is covered with signatures and sayings, making this place just visually interesting and very cool. Jukebox is incredible, beers are cold, bar tender is down-to-earth. This place is real, and one of my favorite bars in the world.

Great little dive bar, the rum punch was delicious (and potent)! Prices were the best we found, don't forget cash, they don't accept cards.

This very quirky and special bar must be experienced. Never seen anything like it - with lots of old and new graffiti on the walls (and ceiling!), guest (and bar personnel) drawing from the 70's on the wall, an old juke-box with tons of great music (you can choose yourself) from the 60's and 70's, and of course the bar... We had a terrible experience here because of other patrons harassing me and making obscene gestures. This is not the fault of the establishment, but the female bartender continued to laugh at the two men and encourage them. I guess they didn't know I spoke Spanish, however, based on the gestures, anyone could understand. This was the worst experience I... More

The most fascinating thing with the place is that it's literally covered floor to ceiling with graffiti, you get a pen in the bar to improve it yourself. The bar itself is not really a place to get a fancy cocktail, more like a "beer + shot" place

We stopped in for beers before dinner. The venue was colorful and we met some nice tourists at the bar. The drinks were only average and it wasn't possible to get any food. We stopped by in the evening before dinner at about 8-8:30 pm. The place was pretty dead. Maybe this would be more lively later in the evening.

Overall, our favorite bar while in Old San Juan/Condado for a week (and doing our fair share of drinking). It's easy to get hung up on what's a dive bar, what's not a dive bar. My dive bars are typically prone to serving only cheap, watery beer and strong drinks made with mid-shelf liquors at best. This is not that... More
