- Michael MNew Jersey39 contributionsA highlight of Old San JuanThis is a great little park in a beautiful location. There are a bunch of friendly and hungry pigeons there that you can feed. There is a nice kiosk where you can buy little bags of bird food for cheap. It’s a really neat experience and photo op. Be aware, you may be swarmed and covered in pigeons, but in a good way! If you don’t like close encounters with pigeons, don’t go to the pigeon park.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten October 29, 2023
- GeneralShamuNew York City, New York1,174 contributionsQuick VisitGreat park to visit with hundreds of pigeons. Thought he birds are absolutely disgusting and disease ridden, it's great to watch others feed them and have dozens of them land on their shoulders, arms and head. Rules state it's illegal to feed the pigeons but it seems to not be enforced, unfortunately. Great views from this park as well - of the bay, ship harbor, etc... Closes at 17:00 sharp and closed on Mondays.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 26, 2023
- psudinoWeehawken, New Jersey4,436 contributionsThe kids area in the back of this park is one of my favorite spots in VSJ!We wanted to take the kids to see the pigeons but we ended staying for nearly an hour as they had a blast in the kids area in the back of the park. They have all sorts of games, activities, seats (for both kids and adults) and wonderful little cafe for treats. Beside the kids loving the park, the views from here are among the best in all of the city. If you have little kids then I think this should be at the top of your list of places to visit!Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten January 26, 2024
- Richard WPenn Valley, California878 contributionsA very cool place to see in Old San Juan--Don't miss it.While walking through Old San Juan we noticed a unique looking religious structure and went to see it at the end of the short street. Right next to it we found this park area. It is filled with pigeons, bird food for sale, fun art displays , a children's play area a little further inside and a small cafe. Most tourists stop at the entry and see the pigeons , who are very friendly and will land on your shoulders ,arm or head if you let them. They don't hurt and, oddly enough, we did not see one person get pooped on!! See the birds, but don't miss the sculpture art on display--it is at ground level, easy to walk right past it. Walk a bit further inside this park and see the nooks in the wall where many of the pigeons nest and roost. Continue down further and enjoy seeing the children's play area or get something from the little cafe shed. While the birds capture most of the attention going further in actually felt like a place more designed and enjoyed by the locals. Take a few moments to see and enjoy this pleasant area right along the waters edge for shade and a cool breeze.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2024
- Rose R2 contributionsNew and improved pigeon park. This park has come a long way. We went a few years back and it was dirty and the birds were sick. The dedication and love poured into this park by a local couple is highly commendable. The park is now clean, beautiful and the birds are healthy. I strongly suggest this attraction for families with kids. The cafe at the far end of the park help support the efforts. It’s the only cafe in Old San Juan with an ocean view, and the views are spectacular. At the entrance of the park they sell food for the pigeons and cute souvenirs.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 29, 2024

Pigeon Park was so much fun. They sell the corn feed to feed the pigeons. The pigeons are careful when eating from your hands, walking on you and holding on to your arms or hands. We did not get pooped on either. This was one of our highlights on our trip. It was so much fun. Highly recommend this.

Beautiful green space with overarching banyon trees, and oh yeah, hundreds of hungry pigeons just waiting for a handout or is that a handful of bird seed. Wear a hat and gloves if you intend to feed them or let them light on your head or arms. This is preventive action so as to avoid that old wives tail of bird "doo" being lucky!!!! Park overlooks the murallas and San Juan harbor.

Next to historical Capilla del Cristo and its archway, the park is home to thousands of pigeons (palomas) in Old San Juan. Straggly colourful banners hang from equally straggly trees in front of a wall of pigeon homes. People were feeding the pigeons so there is no reason for them to leave. I wore a hat, just in case…

We walked all the way up to see Fortaleza and this park was at the top right before heading to Fortaleza. We happened to come across it by mistake. It is a small park by the Capilla de Santo Cristo. As you walk in the park has many pigeons which are waiting to be fed. They literally fly up onto your hands and arms. All you have to do is stretch your arms. It is a very peaceful and tranquil place with plenty of shade if you need a rest from the sun.

So I am willing to admit that I didn’t realize that Palomas was Spanish for pigeons. There were a ton of them inside and just outside the park. The park get was closed (told it was usually open on the weekend, but it may not be because of the protests and the proximity to the governor’s mansion. It is still a beautiful park and there is another slightly smaller park just down from it that is open and affords the same views.

What is the act being performed by some people when they run up to and from the wall while facing forward. It almost seems like some type of worship.

You must see this and there is a you tube that has more details about this tiny house in Old San Juan, PR. If you are from PR it is easy to reach the place if you are heading to Parque de las Palomas from Calle Tetuan is to your right side before the Parque de las Palomas if you are going up in the street. I hope you have the experience to visit it and add a photo.

Although it may be difficult to find public parking nearby, it is not impossible . However, in some nearby streets you can park and enjoy the ride without problems.

The closest place to stay that I am aware of is a B&B called the Monastery Art Suites.
The closest hotels are the Hotel Convento and Hotel Plaza De Armas both about two blocks away.
Other B&B's a bit further are Caleto 64 Apartment and Villa Herencia.

There are some hotels in the Old San Juan but there is a large variety in Condado, from high end to Bed & Breakfast. . There are buses on the main street in Condado that will bring you to Old San Juan within minutes. Also you have the beach in Condado & you can walk around at night. Walking around in the Old San Juan area at night would be limited.
