This site sounded interesting so I gave it a try. It cost $5 to get in and the whole exhibit was in Spanish. However it was an exhibit on the music collection that the department of culture had saved, so reading about the music wasn’t necessary. I could admire the art covers and they had the music collection to listen to as well as movie clips playing with the type of music represented there. The attendant took the time to explain a few things to me as I was the only one there. Plus the building is historical and is quite lovely.

This was the last place in the Americas where the imperial Spanish flag flew. After the United States invaded Puerto Rico on 1898 and the Island was ceded to the US as part of the Treaty of Paris, thus ending the Spanish American War, the US military government allowed the remaining Spanish troops to remain in the Arsenal until they could be transported out of the Island. During this time, the Spanish flag flew above the Arsenal and thus this was the last piece of the Spanish Empire in the Americas.

I didn't realize I had walked along a TripAdvisor attraction. There are no guides there asking for money to tell you the history. There are many such undiscovered places in Old San Juan. Toss the map and let your feet and imagination take you on an adventure! Adjacent to this site is the Old Jail, three cells left undisturbed for centuries. Like The Arsenal, there are no guides or indication that there is an attraction.

An easy walk along the ocean taking you back through history. There are many spots to sit in the shade while taking in the awesome views!

Hidden gem for art lovers with a cover fee of $3 per person it’s a bargain if you are already in old San Juan it’s a go!

They have really great artist shows here. The latest show is sculptural objects from Puertorican artists. The space is perfect and it is enlightening to walk around the different spaces

So amazing that these forts and walls and other buildings have survived with such little care done for them. Just amazing and free to take in their beauty as you stroll through and around old San Juan.

The Arsenal is an historic place which deserves a visit. The San Juan Bay view is breathtaking. Have your camera ready for a ton of photos.

Nice little museum with small exhibits that give a good idea of the history of the island. There was was only one exhibit when I went there, about a pottery factory built in the 1940’s with captions in Spanish. They were really happy to have me, though and let me use an English book to go through. Also has beautiful views of the harbor with old canons and art outside. With going down this little alley by a parking lot from the cruise dock.

Each time I visit Puerto Rico this is where I end up taking the most pictures. Good views of the water from all around with lots of interesting architecture to photograph.
