The fort from the outside is impressive but the interior is not fully restored and furnished. It could be more open and friendly. The view of the harbor is nice but so it is the same from the shore and the desks from the cruise...More

The fort looked pretty cool and imposing, but we only walked around the outside of it. There were some really neat old stone ruins nearby as well, that were fun to walk around and made for great photo ops. We were in town on a...More

We have visited Fort De France on Martinique before. Up until 2-3 years ago, the fort was not open for tours. Or that was what we understood. Our visits have been part of a cruise and the cruise line didn't offer it as an excursion....More

Our 2nd time in Martinique and first time we thought that it's closed(because it's still active Naval Base). However you can get in, if you buy ticket first(10€/person), although some parts of the Fort are still closed. This impressive Fort from 17th Century is definitely...More

A colonial fort in the Caribbean is always worth visiting, it's almost always a trip in time. This one however, requires a bit of ingenuity just to get in. Ft. St. Louis is STILL an active French naval base, however you CAN get in if...More

Contrary to several previous reviews, my personal experience is that you can gain entry to this historically important landmark. But you need to buy a ticket from the tourist office located in the southwest corner of the nearby park, La Savane. It is a small...More

The fort juts out into the sea and looks amazing from far away with its fortifications and greenery, unfortunately that's all you'll get. The fort is an active military base and closed to the public. The view from the ferry to the anse à l'âne...More
