About
One of Saint Lucia's best loved locations for excursions - with fabulous viewing points, hiking trails, Colonial historical ruins, Mini Museum (open M-F, 9:30am to 5pm) quiet swimming beaches, shady picnic areas and now a fabulous little shop called Trust Island Life, with a wide range of local gifts, souvenirs and local treats. *We're also known as Pigeon Island National Park! Last entry to the Landmark is 4:15pm and all guests must exit by 5pm. Hiking to Fort Rodney includes some challenging surfaces, and very steep ladder; hiking to Signal Peak includes some "scramble" areas where you must climb over boulders. Sturdy shoes with grippy soles are essential for both. There are several gentler slopes and trails around the island. Please note we are closed from 12 noon on 24th December and we are closed all day on Christmas Day, 25th December. We also close for several weeks every September to do restoration work and staff development activities. Please see our social media.

We visited Pigeon island which was a half hour drive from Castries and a total of 106ECD in a taxi each way for 4 people. It was then a further 50 ish ECD to get in the park. We walked up to the top of both viewing points- one of which was very rocky so take good footwear and water.
We also went into the small museum and were unaware of the history of the island and the uk regiments that were stationed there over the years, very interesting. We wanted to go on the beach within the park however it was cordoned off for a private bbq which looked to be with the residents of the Sandals resort next door. So instead we went on the public beach outside the entrance gates which was lovely white sand and had a good beach bar serving ice cream, food and Guinness 😊.

A great antidote to the crowds around the other beaches, the National Park provides a tranquil experience. There are two small beaches, both very pleasant with sandy entrance to the water and adequate shade from the trees. Note it is better to go when there is not a cruise ship in the bay as they close the better beach for private use by passengers. Sunbeds are available for a very reasonable $3 but you need to pay for them when you buy your park entry ticket ($10). Away from the beach there are a selection of ruins from the British garrison here and a small but useful museum. For the fitter the walk up to the Fort is most worthwhile, offering excellent views of the island as well as a view of Martinique on a clear day

Pigeon Island has a lot of history as the place where the British defended Saint Lucia so there are lots of historical remains like gun employments, barracks, etc.
Looking at the island from the south, there are two hills: the left being Fort Rodney and the right Signal Hill.
The climb to Fort Rodney is quite straightforward, with handrails at the steepest places. The views compensate for the effort in the climb.
Signal Hill is much more of a challenge. It starts OK, but nearer the peak it becomes rockier with a lot of stretching and pulling to get over the rocks. Fortunately there are always people climbing up and down who will help you as they did me. But, if you don't like climbing give it a miss, but you will miss out on some marvellous views.
There are one or two coves where you can go swimming, but you aren't coming here just for the swimming. The point is you can spend at least half a day here,
You can pay by credit card and current admission is 26.70 East Caribbean dollars.

So fun! SO beautiful! The views are worth it.
It costs $10US per person to enter the park. Inside you can walk the grounds, go to the museum, and also climb to the fort and second peak.
TIPS: Wear proper shoes. There is lose gravel and uneven footing.
Do both peaks, it's worth it. You can see different parts of the island from each peak.

I really enjoyed this little outing. We didn't really want to do much that day, so this was a leisure hike for us to explore the fort and surroundings. The hike up to the fort did require some effort, especially if you aren't use to the Caribbean heat. This is nature at its best if you are a nature lover. There is a lovely beach, along with showers and change rooms. We decided not to use it, as we wanted to go back to our resort's beach. Caution though, we did see a few crabs amongst the rocks.
The $10 USD entry fee is good for the whole day so if you wanted to leave and go back later, that is an option. Also, the restaurant on site was not opened when we went, so make sure you think about your food options.
By the way, a bonus would be a view of Martinique off in the distant. Sadly we weren't able to see it.

We really enjoyed exploring the island, looking at the various ruins and admiring the views. Be aware that the restaurant and shops are not open, so bring your own snacks. Walk up to Rodney Fort is hard work in the heat (we are not fit) but definitely worth it for the views.

We had a great day at Pigeon Island. We were staying on the north end of the island and didn’t feel like embarking on the two hour winding mountain road to hike around the Pitons, so decided to check out Pigeon Island. We had a rental car and parking was ample right outside the park. We hiked up to both, Signal Peak and Fort Rodney. Signal Peak was a bit of a rocky climb at points and can be hot, but with decent shoes and sufficient water, it’s not all that difficult and is a relatively short climb. The view and breeze at the top are amazing. The 10 USD entrance fee allows you to leave and come back, so we left for lunch in Gros Islet at Matthew’s Rooftop, which was amazing, and came back to enjoy the beach. The last beach on the trail, we had virtually to ourselves. The snorkeling around the reef there was incredible. So many types of tropical fish! I would highly recommend visiting.

What a beautiful landmark.. you have history, you have walks, you have an ocean and a sea .. so beautiful !! We walked around the historical sites and then chilled on the beach. We went snorkeling in which we saw a few colourful fishes. What is best the beach ., so peaceful, no beach sellers!! Beds are only $3 with so much natural shaded areas. Make sure you pay for your bed when you arrive. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed, so I would recommend bringing snacks and drinks. We had nice food & cocktail in the bar outside.

We are in the northern part of the island: access to the park costs 10 usd and here it is possible to do two short panoramic treks, admire the remains of an English fort and relax in two beautiful coves. Not too crowded place.
Absolutely worth a visit for a pleasant half day of sea, trekking and history

We took a taxi up to Pigeon Island, mid-morning, and it was very quiet. The entry fee was good value. There are a lot of steps up to Fort Rodney, and the hike to Signal Point is steep and rocky in places. However, the views from both Fort Rodney and Signal Point were breathtaking! Would recommend a strong pair of shoes and plenty of water - it was very hot when we visited 🥵 There are toilets available.
We went out of the park to the Thirsty Parrot for a fabulous lunch, then back to one of the beautiful sandy beaches where snorkelling close to the shore was surprisingly good. We could have spent more time there...

Hi. Taking a trip to St. Lucia later this month and planning to do a day at Pigeon Island National Park. Are the hours limited due to covid restrictions? Do we need to worry about lower capacity and not being able to get a same-day ticket in to the park? Also, wanting to do some snorkeling while visiting the park. Are the snorkeling beaches at park well marked and easy to find/do on your own or do you recommend using a company? Do you rent snorkeling equipment at the park? Should we bring our own? Thanks for any help!!

Hi, Pigeon Island is a beach area, with a national park. Beach is fabulous, white sand, crystal clear water, just beautiful, a couple of eateries, local cuisine and local drinks, so nice and relaxing, I would absolutely recommend this beach and the national park, which is open all day until around 5pm or 6pm if I remember correctly. The national park is a lovely day out with lots of walks, picnic areas and a lovely hidden restaurant, and a private beach with sun loungers, the snorkelling is just lovely! :)

we will be coming from st james morgan bay and want to take the bus. does the bus take you right to the national park entrance or just to central Rodney bay and then we would need to make our way to the park? is there a specific bus # to go right to the entrance?
also
are there washrooms in multiple spots in the park or just near the restaurant?
Written February 25, 2020
Hi. We were on a cruise and took a taxi to the location. I'm sorry I can't give you any details about the national park as we did not go. The beach is nice and clear and would recommend this.

We used a family friend who operates out of Rodney Bay. His name is Donald and can be reached on Bartonddonald at hotmail . Com or on 758-450-8948
We paid $200 ECD for a round trip from Rendezvous to Cap Maison with a stop at Pidgeon Island. I can’t recommend Donald enough to transport you around the north of St Lucia (I believe he also covers airport transport too). Being local to Rodney Bay I imagine anyone coming in on the cruises would get a great deal to Pidgeon Island directly. If planning I would say drop him a mail and get a price on any day trips you want to do.

Anywhere there to park rental car?
Written August 15, 2018
Yes, there is plenty of room to park just outside the gate in the dirt/sand lot. Free parking. We parked our rental there and spent most of the day on Pigeon Island.

Staying at Sandals Grande and was wondering do you walk there along beach or on the road out front? Cost and time to complete walking to top. Thanks
Written August 1, 2018
We walked along the beach, past the water sports hut, the nice people can direct you to the entrance. The walk there was maybe 3 mins. There is a fee, I think it was about 6 dollars per person. You can spend as long a time as you like, it’s very interesting with trees labeled and how they were used and my husband enjoyed the military ruins.

How far is it from where one gets dropped off, at the entrance to the park I’m assuming, to the beach? How long of a walk to the beach?
Written March 12, 2018
They drop you off a few steps to the entrance of pigeon island. After you walk the fort, on the way down the beach is right ther, along with restaurant! You will love it
