If you are expecting a beautiful manicured garden with plant information displayed, then this garden is not for you.
If however you want to visit a historic site, that is slightly over grown with beautiful views and is thoroughly charming, that you will fall in love with them you must visit. If the carpark kiosk is unmanned then follow the concret drive up into the gardens, you will come across the toilets and cafe, pay your entrance there and get your guide book. There is a circular path to follow up the hill to the ruins of the old planation house, views from the top are stunning. This part of the garden is slightly overgrown, the forest has started to reclaim the hill, but this adds to the charm. For a romantic spot find the hidden garden and rest for 10 minutes.
The gardens near the cafe are beautiful too, find the orchid beds and look for the old slave quaters, wander and enjoy, smell the flowers and get slightly lost, walk on the grass and enjoy.
Once back at the cafe you can enjoy some refreshments on the veranda or view the collection of interesting artefacts discovered on the site.

Mamiku Gardens on the East Coast are well away from the main tourist areas of St Lucia and clearly struggling to be able as a tourist destination. The impression is of few visitors each day. However situated just off the main road from the north of the island to the airport it is a superb stop for those ,driving south for evening flights.
The gardens are attractive with an informative guide for those wishing to know the name of everything. However the main interest is perhaps a walk in the forest up to the ruins of the old manor house.this constitutes a climb for which a stick ( provided) is heartily recommended. While there is not much left to be seen at the ruins there is British military history here of defensive action and death as the outpost was overrun by brigands.
With more visitors this attraction would benefit but unlikely to happen due to its position.
However well worth a visit if passing.

Lots and lots of different plants to see as you wander about the gardens. The place had been left unattended for many years and looks uncared for in places, but it's slowly being redeveloped. It can be a bit painstaking having to look up the plants by the numbers shown on them - it would better if the plants were labelled in situ. And. of course, there's a small cafe and shop where you can have a glass of the ubiquitous rum punch - is there anywhere in the Caribbean where this doesn't occur? - and a piece of cake. A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

Overall this garden is not nearly as well tended as Diamond Gardens in Soufriere. However, if you have some time on your way to the airport or the eastern coast, it is fun to poke around in. It does have some nice orchids and a very nice non-touristy vibe. We didn't notice any great views.

Such a disappointment. Being into gardens, this was to be a highlight of our St Lucian holiday. We drove 90 mins to get to it and find it closed. There was nothing on the website to warn us. What a waste and there was nothing else of interest in the area (for anyone really) so back we drove to our hotel.

No need to spend too much time here, but it is a nice stopping points if you are heading to La Tille Falls. Plenty of shade for hot days. A bit expensive for a larger group in my opinion. Excellent view if you climb just a bit. Wear some walking shoes. On a hot day get a scoop of banana ice cream - it tastes like banana laffy taffy.

Here I got to learn a lot about the current knowledge and possible benefits of plants etc that may be available to help cure/ alleviate physiological issues. The lovely lady Aka Impy who manages the gardens in proxy for her 93 year old mother, has recently reopened after being shut down due to the COVID 19 and needs help to fund the demanding upkeep of this vital plant resource. Well worth a visit, if not to add financial support but also give yourself a better understanding of what nature can offer us humans. Particularly interesting is the gentleman expert who I have christened Mr "Eficaceologist". PLEASE, PLEASE make time to enjoy the wonderful gardens.

Having read previous reviews in Jan and Feb this year we headed to Mamiku quite hopeful of an interesting garden and walks. I have to wonder if those people actually went to the place, the closest review to the current state of these gardens was given back in 2012. And quite who the very interesting Gilbert is those reviews go on and on about I cannot imagine ! We arrived to an empty car-park, not a good sign ! Then the entry booth was unmanned so we picked up the map and botanical list and headed to the bar to hopefully find some life. The bartender lady, who it appears doubles up as the barman/cook/ticket seller/ etc took our 20EC each and waved us on our way. The gardens seem to be very neglected (see 2012), ,some evidence of a few new plantings, but basically unkempt paths, 'ruins' that are no better than piles of rocks and basically it appears to be reverting to natural island woodland. One stopping place with a stunning view of the Bay, but other than that a poor place to visit as mostly in a bad state of neglect. After the Botanical Gardens in Soufriere this place is terrible in comparison. So, save your money and the time to get there it really is not worth it. Actually the floral display in the Wash-Room was very nice to be fair !

After reading the other reviews we were worried as to whether this merited the long trip from Marigot Bay. But we're very pleased we did. Firstly - it's NOT a family attraction. Yes the ruins are minimal and arguably shouldn't be part of the advertising. So there's little for kids. BUT it is a serious botanical garden with plant lists available, and the damage from the hurricane which may have led to previous poor reviews is now much restored, with large areas of new planting which will quickly become lush again.
Also, it is an excellent place for bird watching. The sprinklers were on and we saw a wide variety of bird life, especially in the wooded area around the stream. After paying $30 US each to see almost nothing at the Millet Trail, paying $20EC each to see mangrove cuckoos, tremblers, pearly-eyed thrasher, St Lucia peewee and many others at very close quarters seemed good value!

We were wrong footed from the start. Ticket booth not manned, so we walked in. Proceeded to hike up a curved driveway, with a sloping garden on the left. Upon reaching the top of the drive, and detouring into a dead end in a wood, we discovered the cafe. We had at this point seen maybe 75% of the gardens, but the cafe manageress insisted on charging us a random $8US for "entry".
We ordered two drinks, which were added to the bill. $5 for a tea and $3 for a cola. However, I quickly realised that the price list was in EC$ and the manageress of the tea room was attempting to charge that amount in US$, rather than the 40% rate which would have been correct. I pointed this out, and although the bill was amended, a degree of frostiness ensued.
I wouldn't bother with this place and I'm somewhat mystified what others see in a small number of wooded areas and some poorly maintained sections of older planting.

Do we have to be part of a tour to get in and walk the gardens, or can a couple show up and look around?
Written November 29, 2018
We showed up by ourselves since we rented a car on the island, and there was no issues on not being part of a tour. The kiosk at the parking lot said to go up to the house to pay the entrance fee. There they give you a map of the trails and papers saying what plants are which according to their number.
