- Christopher J20 contributionsWhat a great find!!!My wife came across this via trip advisor and even our tour guide had not heard of it. Truly a one of a kind experience on the island. We were greeted by our very pleasant farm guide Silvo and the adventure began. We travelled off the beaten path in a 4x4 vehicle. Silvo best described the road as "a road that makes you dance even if you don't want to". Once we reached to farm it was a true oasis. Silvo gave each of us our "third leg" (Walking stick) for the hilly terrain ahead of us. Along the 2-1/2 hour tour he explained many of the native plants and trees to us as well as the birds that frequent many of the farms fruit trees. We ate over 8 local fruits and vegetables right off the trees they were growing on. The views were incredible and the highlight for me was roasting fresh cashews on an open fire. I highly recommend this for anyone willing to get out of the touristy areas and experience the amazing beauty of nature and the people of St. Lucia. This truly was a highlight of our visit to St. Lucia. Great job Silvo and team. Keep up the amazing work!!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 14, 2023
- Jami F1 contribution“Lets Venture”This is the mantra of Silvanus, the gentle patriarch of this one-of-a-kind farm tour. You can stop reading the reviews and book now, everyone attests to the perfect 5 star fact that this experience WILL BE the pinnacle of your St. Lucia adventure! An intimate, educational and uniquely edible tour highlighting tropical bird, tree, plant and garden species within a backdrop of exquisite scenery with breathtaking views. Silvanuss’ vast knowledge and contagious passion is unsurpassed and beyond welcoming; blending his ancient ancestral wisdom and stories with current applications of sustainability… “Lets Venture” With love and respect Silvanus, Jami & G… See you again soon!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 5, 2023
- Jake R1 contributionAmazing!I hope Sylvo’s mom is getting a special meal ready because this review can’t say enough good things about our experience at Grand Eden Estate. We loved seeing the estate and the natural views it captures of the island. Sylvo was so knowledgeable of his surroundings (plants, animals, landscape) and you could easily see that he enjoyed sharing and teaching about these. We never felt rushed, but we had an adventure and bonded with nature. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic activity in Soufrière.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 8, 2023
- Alex LCambridge, United Kingdom1 contributionBirder's paradise! We had a fantastic afternoon with Silvanus and Zee, who gave us an excellent introduction to the flora and fauna of the St. Lucia rainforest. We only read about this tour the day before our visit, but we sent Silvanus a WhatsApp message and he agreed to give us a tour the following day. When we had trouble with Google Maps, he then offered to meet us at our previous destination, and when the final section of road proved too much for our small hire car, he gave us a lift the rest of the way. The 3-hour tour showcased a wide range of trees, flowers, fruits and nuts on the estate, with fun and interesting pieces of information about various traditional uses of particular plants. We were able to taste several fruits, fresh coconut, and flame-roasted cashews and corn. The highlight of the tour though was the bird life: we saw a St. Lucia Oriole, the St. Lucia Warbler, a variety of finches and threshers (including the St. Lucia Black Finch), a Broad-Winged Hawk, all three hummingbird/carib species on the island, and SEVEN St Lucia Parrots!! Add to that a mongoose and one of the most engaging and cheerful guides I've ever met, and this was an excellent trip. If you like nature, this trip is a must!!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 11, 2023
- Megan F19 contributionsA must-do in St. LuciaI cannot say enough good things about this tour. Watching, listening to, and learning from Silvano about the rainforest was incredible. He is so knowledgeable about the plants and animals and caters the tour to entice guests to harbor the same interest. He has a slice of heaven and it is a blessing that he has chosen to share it with those lucky enough to take the opportunity!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 1, 2024
- Cheyenne AHouston, Texas2 contributionsMUST GO!Where to start?! The best trip of our week and a half stay here in St Lucia. If you can only do one thing, please do this! Getting there is not for the faint of heart. Takes you off roading a ways but it’s so worth it. Like all the reviews, google maps will be no help here or anywhere on the island. We got to do our tour in the pouring rain and it did not stop us from enjoying every minute. It made us feel more connected with nature. Bookerty was our guide and he is very passionate about his work. He’s so involved with the tour and explains everything so well. It was a good time. Bon Bagay!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2024
- Tour330863796111 contributionA fantastic and fun day out with chance to see local St Lucia bird life and sample some tropical food growing there. It was a great trip out. All the staff were really nice and helpful and very focussed on giving us a good time and also experiencing the local flora and fauna (in particular the bird life) . We would really recommend it. We arrived in the pouring rain but all soon cleared and we had fantastic views . Tried coconut water out of the shell, grapefruit off the tree and freshly roasted cashew nuts. You won't be disappointed. Peter and Rachel, UKVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 23, 2024
- D-C17 contributionsExcellent rainforest tourTout bagay bon! Don’t hesitate booking a tour of Grand Eden Estate rainforest. We wanted to take the tour but, based on review comments, were concerned about the road conditions getting there. We sent a WhatsApp message (+1 758-729-4882) and Silvanus responded within the hour, asked our date preference, and he offered to meet us in Fond St Jacques and drive us to the Estate. Note: You must pre-book the tour at least 24hr in advance since each tour is private for your group. We booked on Tuesday for a Friday tour. There is no online booking but making arrangements with Silvanus over WhatsApp was easy and he was very responsive. We arranged to meet in the parking lot of the Fond St Jacques Roman Catholic Church. Recommend you use the maps.me App for directions as the church is not on Google maps. We drove from Soufriere taking the road past Toraille Waterfall. On reaching Fond St Jacques, look for the Fond St Jacques Combined School (on left) and about 1/4 mile further (as the road curves sharply right) there is a bus shelter on the left. Make a left turn here into Fond St Jacques Rd and a short distance down is the church on the right (next to the MoneyGram sign and opposite a wall mural). There is ample parking. If you reach the sign for Le Belvedere restaurant you’ve gone too far! We met Silvanus at the church as planned and he drove us into the rainforest. The road wasn’t as bad as some reviews suggest (we think there have been some recent improvements) but we were happy Silvanus was driving! At the Estate entrance he provided us with a walking pole which turned out to be essential since the day of our tour was on/off rain showers (mostly on!) and the terrain was a bit slick even with hiking shoes, but not difficult. The weather did not spoil the experience. As other reviews mention Silvanus is passionate about what he does. He explained about the various plants/trees and their medicinal properties, and we sampled edibles along the way. At the end of the tour we roasted cashew nuts and sampled some local wine/rum. Despite the weather we were able to complete the tour and saw many native St Lucia land birds (eg all 3 types of hummingbirds, bullfinch, warbler, finch, flycatcher, oriole). While we did not see, but heard the Peewees and Parrots. The estate tour lasted about 3 hr and “tout bagay bon” (Silvanus said this translated to “everything is good” in St Lucian creole). Without hesitation we recommend Grand Eden Estate tour. FYI. A short walk from the church is Le Belvedere restaurant. We had a wonderful authentic St Lucian lunch here.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 27, 2024
- carol r14 contributionsExcellent nature experience in St LuciaLadera Resort lists Grand Eden Estate as an activity option and wow, I am so happy we went! Silvo, the estate owner and manager, picked us up at 7AM for the drive up the valley. It’s a rough road, but we were there in little time and it is a paradise. Silvo is an excellent birder and we saw 4 of the 6 species endemic to St. Lucia (we saw the parrots but too far off to count them), and more that are endemic to the Lesser Antilles. The hike is hilly and the views at the top are spectacular. Then, we walked around the farm and ended with tasting (and purchasing) spiced rum before the ride back to our hotel. Silvo’s passion for the land and everything on it is infectious and I highly recommend a morning (or afternoon) at Grand Eden Estate.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 6, 2024
- Andrew LLas Vegas, Nevada33 contributionsWonderful adventure in Saint Lucia - 100% recommend!Absolutely one of my most favourite holiday experiences ever. My wife surprised me with a visit here so I had no expectations and was completely blown away. I figured it would just be a nice walk through a botanical garden or similar but it is not. The family who owns it goes above and beyond to provide a catered experience and the folks who work there are extremely friendly and fun to be around. Before you go you can let the host know whether you'd like to prioritize bird watching (you can see all 5 endemic birds to Saint Lucia here & 3 endemic hummingbirds plus all birds native to the lesser Antilles including the national bird , the Saint Lucia Parrot), hiking (there is a 2 hr round trip hike), or flora/fauna (there are hundreds of different plants, trees, shrubs, flowers & ferns diligently collected and curated along a shorter nature trail. I don't want to spoil the surprises but the host will include some farm to table elements so come with an open mind on a lovely array of food, fruit, vegetables and drinks to try. We were lucky enough to be hosted by the son of the owner who started the business (Sylvanus) and he's an absolute gem. He has a deep knowledge of the forest, plants, animals and island - I especially enjoyed him pointing out the medicinal uses of the plants. Couple things to note: The drive up absolutely is a bit interesting, it's not difficult but neither is it easy. Just go slow and stick to the path, don't stress, at the end is a clearly marked sign. They cater to all (we saw many different age groups) but I'd say to really get the most out of the trip one ought to be a relatively good hiker (no scrambles, many steep steps along a narrow path) to get to the best views. 10/10 would recommend. Gorgeous views, fun hosts, incredible property and nice surprises along the way.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 19, 2024

We had a fabulous tour of the Grand Eden Estate with the wonderful Silvanus. Silvanus grew up close to the reserve and his knowledge of the local flora and fauna is outstanding. His ability to identify bird calls and spot the birds amongst the dense rainforest foliage meant that we were able to see all the island's endemic bird species during our morning walk. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the tour, which included a chance to taste fresh coconuts and produce from the local farm and roast delicious cashews on a fire. We also sampled so of the local spirits, which are not to be missed!
We much appreciated Silvanus's enthusiastic and friendly manner as well as his concern for our safety during what at times was a quite difficult walk in the rain. Umbrellas and walking sticks (our "third leg") were provided!
The reserve really is quite breathtakingly beautiful and a visit to it is not to be missed during a stay on St Lucia to really appreciate the island's nature.

Sylvano and Melvin led a friendly, Informative tour through the rainforest high in the Pitons. They expertly and enthusiastically identified four endemic birds for our bird watching friend, served fresh fruit right from the trees and roasted delicious cashews for us. The views were extraordinary, the hike was moderate with gracious help though steeper climbs. This tour was a highlight that I would highly recommend to nature lovers especially bird watchers, families and anyone who appreciates seeing the natural world guided with real joy. We did have a driver, super Dave, much appreciated since the way in is challenging. I will happily do this again when I return to St Lucia!

What a stunning place! An incredibly peaceful environment, full of the beauties of nature. The nature trail is quite easy, on a clean track through the rainforest and farm, with spectacular views of the coast, Pitons and Mount Gimie. The lovely young man, Silvanus, who works there, has the keenest eyes and ears we'd ever witnessed. Even after many years as a nature lover, his passion for wildlife, in particular birds, is undimmed and full of wonder. It was very infectious to be around him while he explained all the bird calls and songs. We were lucky enough to see many species, including the famous St. Lucian parrot. There is no way we could have spotted them let alone identified them, without his expertise. All the birds endemic to St. Lucia can be seen here. Silvanus is also an expert local guide who can take you on hikes through the rainforest. We also sampled lots of the fruits that grow on the property.
Overall a wonderful, hidden place, far away from all the tourists and buzz around the coast. Definitely worth the trip. 5 *****

We stopped at grand Eden for around an hour on an island tour and it was a fantastic experience. Silvanus was a brilliant host for our short time with him, pointing out fruit and letting us try it (guava, coconut, mango and more), sharing information about the island and area and just generally being a great guide. Whilst we weren't able to do a full tour here on this trip, we highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different and unique whilst you're in St Lucia!

My fiancé and I spent a day at Grand Eden Estate and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience. Silvanus and his team are the most gracious hosts and he’s extremely knowledgeable about all the plants and birds on the island and you can see many of even the endangered bird species on his property. The nature trail he created on his estate is very impressive with several lookout points. This was a very unique, authentic experience on St. Lucia - he only takes small family groups or couples at a time and the individual, private feel is very special. Grand Eden Estate is a true gem on the island. Highly recommend it! You must make a reservation with him in advance.

We spent a weekend camping here and it was the most amazing experience. Absolutely serene and tranquil! Refreshing crisp air, beautiful chirping of birds. It was a retreat from hustle and bustle; truly authentic farm living though we had access to required amenities - water, comfort station. The farm fresh water supply is direct from an underground spring ‘source’ and the nights are lit by solar lights and campfire. We enjoyed visits from many indigenous birds, feeding the rabbits and greatly appreciated the farm to table experience. The overseer is extremely knowledgeable about the birds and local crops and is quite hospitable. He ensured our comfort and safety and spent some time with us telling stories, riddles and playing games which we especially enjoyed. We also had access to hiking trail on the property and nearby waterfall, En bas Saut. I can’t imagine a better way to have spent the Easter holidays. I wholeheartedly recommend Grand Eden estate as a must do activity in St. Lucia. It surely is worth it; great value at an affordable cost! Thank you Wilbert for opening up your farm to us!

Silvanus really knows his stuff. He was very knowledgeable about the birds, plants and surroundings. Our tour was entertaining and informative. Silvanus has a wonderful ability to tell a story and present information that captivates his tour guests. The tour walk was not strenuous and he had several areas to stop and enjoy the magnificent views. This is definitely a must do for bird lovers. We saw 4 of the 5 birds endemic to St. Lucia (we’ll have to wait until next time to see the Pewee). We highly recommend Grand Eden Estate tours.

This was the highlight of our 2 week stay in St. Lucia. If you shy away from large group tours that rush you from one spot to the next, as we do, then do not hesitate to book a tour of Grand Eden Estate.
Sylvanus is passionate about preserving the land and the lifestyle of working on his family farm in the rainforest. As we hiked the trails around the estate, the pace was leisurely, and Sylvanus was very attentive to our capabilities and interests. We're in our 70s and had no trouble at all navigating the trails.
The views were incredible but equally enjoyable were the many stories Sylvanus shared of St. Lucian history, traditions and farming methods. HIs knowledge of native plants and birds was fantastic. We were able to spot many of the birds endemic to St. Lucia and enjoyed the stops to sample fresh fruit, sorrel juice, cashews and spiced rum!
Remember, you are in a rainforest and not on a resort. The trails can be muddy and wet, the road to get there is rough but we enjoyed every minute. The tours at Grand Eden Estate are intentionally booked for couples or family groups so they can ensure your safety and give you an authentic experience of life in the rainforest.
We highly recommend this tour and would love to go back on our next visit to St. Lucia.

HAS anyone taken a taxi from the cruise terminal to Grand Eden?
How much does the tour cost?
Written January 19, 2024
The tour really has no “cost”. But they do expect a tip afterwards. We gave $60 USD for his time. He said “payment is good” when we were leaving. I’m not sure if a taxi will drive up there because of how rough the roads are but if you ask I’m sure they would :) the roads are bad anyways so I’m sure it doesn’t make a difference to them. Worth a shot to ask!
