About
The Yoda Guy Movie Exhibit, nestled amongst Front Street's duty free jewelry stores, is possibly the most surprising enterprise in the Caribbean. Who would expect to find Darth Vader, Pinhead from HELLRAISER and Riddley Scott's ALIEN in St Maarten? But this unprecedented showcase has that and a whole lot more. There are displays that span six decades of movie making, relics from THE TERMINATOR, MEN IN BLACK and even THE MALTISE FALCAN. There's also an incredible collection of lifecasts, the actual faces of Hollywood stars, From Bogart & Brando, though Sean Connery & Jack Nicholson to Michael Jackson, Johnny Depp & Angelina Jolle. The collection is extended to include famous historical figures too… the actual faces of Abraham Lincoln, (cast 3 months before his assassination), Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, (cast in. 1778 and 1783 respectively by french sculptor Jean Antoine Houden), and death masks of both Oliver Cromwell, (1658) and Vladimir Lenin (1924). The Exhibit is the brainchild of Hollywood creature effects wizard Nick Maley, known as "that Yoda Guy" for his contribution to the creation of Yoda for the STAR WARS sagas. If you don't know who Nick is, just google his name. He made over 50 movies, including SUPERMAN, HIGHLANDER, KRULL & LIFEFORCE, worked with Hollywood legends like Sean Connery, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Harrison Ford, (you will see them all in the exhibit), was featured in CINEMAX and HBO specials, won a place in THE GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS and was nominated for an EMMY. Nick shares his professional perspective on the making of famous movies via DVD and, if you are lucky enough to find him there, he will dedicate purchases from the Yoda Guy Shop and do photos with customers. The Shop sells signed movie memorabilia, posters, antique STAR WARS comics, behind the scene photos and storyboards… unique autographed slices of STAR WARS history that become a legacy to pass on through the family. There's also Nick's celebrated Caribbean artwork, (exhibited in galleries in 18 countries and toured the world with UNESCO. Nick and his wife Gloria have created the Yoda Guy Movie Museum Foundation, a not for profit group to oversee the Exhibit's development. Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to support the museum and visit a STAR WARS celebrity. It is recommended on all major cruise lines as a MUST SEE for art and movie fans.

This was SO much fun. My husband absolutely loves Star Wars so we saw this and just had to stop in. Nick was very friendly and answered many questions. The exhibit was really cool, even I found a lot of interesting things!

Completely unexpected, absolutely delightful. Happened upon this museum by accident and so glad we checked it out! Nick is an absolutely fascinating individual and the museum was the highlight of my visit to Philipsburg, if not the whole island! So cool. Loved it all. Highly recommend.

We visited here during our family vacation. We were greeted by Nick who told us about the shop and the exhibit and his role in the original Star Wars movie. Nick was very friendly and welcoming. My young daughter is a Star Wars fan and she loved it, having grown up with Star Wars, I found the museum really interesting and there are so many "one of a kind" items there. It is a must for any Star Wars fan. Thanks to Nick for a great visit.

Mister Nick didn't let us to see exhibit because he was going to the airport. I checked opening hours on the website before visit, but no announcement about not opening that day. Very unprofessional.

There are no hours posted on our website. I am sorry, but whatever other sites might print, Google, TripAdvisor, Apple is not our doing. We try to stay abreast of what other sites post, but as a small, understaffed, non-profit it is hard to stay keep track of what others write and harder to change it. Apple we had specific difficulty updating. Sorry for any inconvenience, but expecting me to let them in when I had a taxi waiting to take me to the airport was not reasonable or unprofessional. We publish our phone and cell numbers on all websites and calling before you come is recommended.

I have to start this review with: I am not just a fan of Star Wars...it is part of my DNA. I have watched every "behind the scenes" and "making of" about the movies (the first 3).
This exhibit is a collection of movie making props, tools, materials, scripts, videos, holograms and pictures spanning about 50 years. We could have spent all day there. As it was we spent about 4 hours in the museum area. One could walk through it in 2 minutes if they didn't read, take in the exhibits or watch the videos. I highly recommend taking the time and soaking in each piece of cinematic history.
The store has some amazing things to buy as well. We were able to score original scripts from the movies mounted with pictures of the corresponding scenes (we are so excited! ).
The owner is Nick Maley. He was one of the folks whom constructed Yoda and the Anamatronics that controled him in Empire. He is kind and engaging. We loved speaking to him! His mission is to influence living exceptional lives.
I highly recommend this experience!

Loved every minute there. My wife and I are both total Star Wars nerds and I consider myself a behind the scenes movie fan. When we walked in, we were greeted by Nick himself. He was so charismatic and generous with his time. He told us several stories I’m sure he’s recited a zillion times, but he did it with genuine enthusiasm. He explained all about the charity and his desire to encourage young people. He was just great. We walked the museum over the course of nearly 2 hours, reading and absorbing nearly everything. There were tons of tidbits of behind the scenes info not only for Star Wats, but many other “classics” of GenX and beyond.

In the end, my wife and I bought 3 script page pieces. One from each of the original trilogy movies. We’ll be proudly displaying them in our home and hope we helped his charity.

Thank you Nick. It was an honor and pleasure to meet you.

My visit was actually in 2019, it was my first Caribbean holiday and I was travelling on a TUI cruise. I was meant to post this but forgot until I was recently reminded of the visit during a conversation between my wife and I.

The condition of the venue back then was well maintained for it being in the Caribbean and the amount of foot traffic the venue gets as well. It was slightly difficult to find but not a huge problem.

Upon entering, I recall Nick was sitting drawing or sculpting something and his assistant was sitting at the front desk. It was decorated exactly how I imagined, a real treat for Star Wars and sci-fi fans. My wife and I had a look around in the entrance bit and more people showed up, Nick started talking to them, I believe they were talking about how much they liked Yoda etc, probably stuff he's heard a million times and I, being the science fiction fan I am decided to express my admiration for the special effects artists of old instead of CGI by saying that I really liked the work of old films like John Carpenters The Thing, this seemed to tweak a nerve and instantly Nick retorted that it was cartoonish and dismissed me. I thought, OK, probably a bit defensive of his own work, maybe it's some weird social mix up between a English person and American. I personally thought he would like to discuss how his effects vary from other experts, and tell me the nuances of how to tell a good artist from a bad one, but I guess he just prefers hearing about Star Wars or his own projects.

We paid for the admission tickets and went into the tour, it was fairly interesting, a lot of work had been put in to make it worth the money we paid and I appreciated it. I really enjoyed the casts of all the actors faces. On exit, I believe there were some more people chatting, we waited and then asked if we could get a photo with Yoda, my dad was a massive fan of the old movies and I would've loved to get a photo to show him, to which Nick replied that photos with Yoda are only for paying customers.

I said we have just come out of the museum, but Nick didn't believe us, I no longer felt like arguing about it. I was quite offended by the fact that I made an effort to pay for tickets and go through the whole thing to be challenged that we hadn't paid for tickets. All that effort I made to exist as a person rather than just a customer for a brief time was lost.

Maybe I am being a bit too harsh, perhaps... Should I consider the staff/owner as part of the score when it's all about the relics? I'm not sure but people did make a huge fuss over him when we were in there and he certainly made an impression on me.

On busy ship days I lose track of who paid to go through the museum and who didn't. Clearly there was some misunderstanding here. I am HAPPY to do photos with visitors who support our NON PROFIT museum by taking the tour or buy items in the shop. But sometimes I am faced with a barrage of people who just want a photo for nothing and then leave. Clearly I mistook this visitor for one of those and did not realize they had gone through the museum. I apologize for that. The museum has to pay its bills or I can't be there to do any photos. Through the course of the year I meet thousands of people and even short term faces tend to run together. At conventions selfies with me are $40 and you pay to enter the convention. At our museum they are a FREE bonus for supporters who paid for museum or bought items. Payments are all donations to the non profit which supports the museum and encourages kids to live extraordinary lives. Regarding John Carpenter's The Thing... the reviewer definitely misunderstood what I said OR I misunderstood the question. I am a BIG fan of the work Rob Bottin and crew did on that movie. It is a classic of practical effects. There were a few sequences that did get a bit cartoony such as the walking head sequence, but that is not a significant criticism considering the vast body of work, especially the dog sequence. I will be with John Carpenter at a convention in 10 days and hope to have a chance to talk to him about The Thing while there.
