The walk takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Gives a good sense of the terrain of the island. Lots of birds and a variety of forest types. Fairly level but very tough footing on the central section on the sharp coral rock. Wear good shoes and take a walking stick. A fall in the central section would be painful.

Take binoculars and enjoy Cayman parrots, Cuban bullfinches, Black throated Blue warblers, West Indian woodpeckers, vireos, La sagra's flycatchers, kingbirds... A taste of what could be seen 20 years ago around George Town before progress made its inimitable mark. See local trees and bushes and enjoy a peaceful walk. We started from the road in Frank Sound and , having... More

If you have got half a day spare this is well worth a visit - the time is needed both to get to the venue and set up as well as the walk itself. Nothing like we imagined or expected, the trail is a fascinating corner of Grand Cayman with heavy undergrowth to either side of the path, interesting local... More

It was a little hard to find the trail head but worth the effort. We decided to hike without a guide and had no issues, although it might have been nice to know a little more about the flora and fauna of the trail. We did the round trip (about 4 miles) and found the path somewhat challenging and a... More

If you are going on the Mastic Trail go with a National Trust guide. Stuart was really interesting to listen to and it gives a good insight into the island geology and way of life.

We enjoyed a wonderful guided hike with Stuart from the National Trust. He is a true gentleman and great story teller. He brought the jungle to life and taught us about the birds, trees and reptiles. My daughter (7) related some of the tales to her second grade class. Highly recommended!

January visit with family from overseas. We bought the written guide from the National Trust store on South sound. This was an excellent introduction to the delights of the mastic trail. We dropped everyone at the southern entrance and then drove a car to the northern finish point. The trail took us approximately 3 hours , it was wet and... More

Mastic Trail is a true hidden gem well worth the time to see. We did not have a guide although if you want a true nature experience it would probably be best to hire one. However, we still had a great experience, as it was cool to see the different habitat types in this protected area. In addition we were... More

We did half the walk and turned back as there was really nothing much to see. Quite rough waking on a narrow path.
