About
Cayman Crystal Caves is a fascinating nature attraction located in Northside, Grand Cayman, and Cayman's newest tourist attraction. When you visit Cayman Crystal Caves, you will be escorted with a knowledgeable Tour Guide, and join us on an adventure exploration of "Cayman Down Under". You will venture into amazing caves where you'll see stalactite and stalagmite crystal structures and otherworldly formations, formed by single drops of water and the slow passage of time. Tour through the unique rainforest nature, under which the caves formed. Amongst the forest and caves is plenty of plant and animal life including strangler fig trees, air plants, parrots, and bats.... History Cayman Crystal Caves have formed over millions of years. Fossilized shells and animal life in the caves show us that at one time, the mass now containing the caves was all located under the sea. Over time, as sea levels changed and land began to rise, rooms began to form through water erosion, making caves. Within these rooms spectacular stalagmite and stalagtite crystal structures began to form, as rain water dripping through the limestone ceiling of the caves left calcium deposits behind. The caves are still today continuing to evolve. The process of stalagmite and stalagtite formation occurs as rain water becomes slightly acidic when it first travels through surrounding plants, earth and other organic matter. This acidic water disolves part of the limestone as it seeps through the earth, and re-deposits microscopic calcium layers, as the water drips from the cave celings. Over time these deposits collectively form the crystal structures. Hundreds of years ago, Pirates used these caves as hideouts, and also as shelters from the elements, including hurricanes. As the Cayman Islands became populated, locals used the surrounding lush lands as farmlands, and mined the caves for rich fertilizer produced by bat guana, as some of the caves are inhabited by bats. In the last half century farming stopped, as the population switched to more lucrative jobs within the tourism and financial sectors. In the early 1990s, Christian and Ole Sorensen undertook an in depth search and exploration of all caves in the Cayman Islands, and began talks with the Cayman Islands government on developing a cave attraction based on the experience from the family's development of the very successful Harrison's caves in Barbados. After a few years, it was realized that the crystal caves of Old Man Bay were extremely unique and stood above any other caves in the Cayman Islands, and for that matter, most of the world. It took almost another two decades to purchase the various parcels which encompasses the caves and surrounding rain forest, as well as devise a route to the landlocked site from the main road. In the last few years of planning the attraction, Ergun Berksoy and the Berksoy family, who have vast experience in the tourism sector, joined the Sorensen family in this venture and together they have seen Cayman's newest and very exciting tourist attraction to completion.

    Great experience
Loved the caves!! You load up into a van for a short 5 minute drive to the caves at which point you will get out and walk to the caves. The caves are all so close to eachother that you don't have to walk very far. There are trails where you're supposed to walk. Very easy hiking. The first half was the guide stopping at pointing out all the different tree species and talking about them.. which is great if that's your thing but I would have preferred to spend that time in the caves instead. Especially considering you don't get a whole lot of time inside each cave. The guide will make sure everyone gets to explore the caves and take pictures. I went in February and it was SOOO HOT. So I recommend bringing a handheld fan with you. I thought the inside of the caves would be cooler temperatures but they weren't. I would say this is an all ages activity but watch small children inside caves as there's spikey stalagmites and stalagtites everywhere.

Beautiful and fun tour! Must experience
It was a beautiful tour! Our tour guide Janelle was super knowledgeable and really fun to talk to. We loved crawling through the caves and looking at all the little animals that were around. I would recommend wearing dark clothes that you couldn’t get a few stains on so you can really get into the caves and not worry about getting dust on you. Overall would definitely recommend the tour. (p. s. don’t let the long and odd intro speech put you off in the beginning. It’s so much better once you’re in the caves!)

    Beautiful caves
We had a great experience at the caves. The guides were friendly, funny, and knowledgeable! Bug spray was provided prior to departure, which was a pleasant surprise given some of the previous reviews. The terrain was easily walkable and the caves were stunning! The gift shop was cute and had some unique caymanite jewelry. Would definitely recommend if you’re on the island for more than a couple of days!

    Amazing!
I never knew there were caves on Cayman. Overheard a couple recommending it over lunch and stopped by on our own without a reservation. They were able to fit us on the next tour. Amazing caves, so beautiful! Definitely worth seeing. Ashani was our guide and did a great job! We toured 3 caves. There is some easy walking on gravel or uneven paths (nature!) And one spiral staircase. An elderly lady in our group was fine but cautious. They provide bug spray for everyone because of mosquitoes, but we didn't really encounter any. We thought this would be a good way to cool off mid-day, but the caves are warm, not cool. Definitely recommend.

    Best tour experience ever.
This is the best cave tour experience I have had. Not cold and damp; beautiful scenes. Jasmin was our professional tour guide: knowledgeable, warm and friendly. DON'T MISS THIS TOUR. This was booked for me and I was a bit reluctant to go....so glad I did not miss it. I have not posted a picture as the pictures are on my friend's camera so she will post for me.

    Great Experience
I love the exotic look of each cave! There are dimensions and angles that are completely breathtaking. If you ever visit the Caymans, please stop by the Crystal Cove and check out the bat cave. You won’t regret it!

    Very memorable
Ash was our guide, he was great, took us through three caves. Explained how the caves were created naturally and also the works undertaken so that tourists could walk through them. Was a short hike through gravel trails to the individual caves. The trees were labelled, and also Ash gave us some background on the properties of some of the trees too. The entire tour started off with some background information from another gentleman who was speaking of the islands history and the original settling families and the way they initially survived. A bit of a drive to get there, but definitely worth it.

    Amazing experience!
Such beautiful caves to explore and the tour guide was so personable, knowledgeable and fun! They took pictures for any groups who wanted to memorialize the event at various points in the tour. The historical introduction was amazing and everyone was very professional and kind. The gift shop is great and you can buy jewelry or souvenirs from the unique cayman stone from the caves!

    Illuminating Cavern
We loved the openness of the caves and it not being restricted by ropes. We also loved that our guide Ashani was encouraging us to find various formations in the caverns. I think our favorite all time viewing was the crystal clear pool in one of the caverns. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Nice series of 3 caves that you walk in and out of. Not a lot of “living” formations maybe due to past lack of caution and care while developing. What is alive is lovely but not very well protected from people. We enjoyed our guide but she was rather lackadaisical about people touching. Why a grown adult would dare touch these fragile formations is beyond me but at least one couple was repeatedly. Anyway we enjoyed the tour, enjoyed seeing the frogs and bats. Not the best caves we have toured (not as vibrant as Texas, Arkansas, South Dakota for example) but a nice way to spend a couple of hours. You can book the cave tour on your own and drive there without needing to spend money with a tour group. If you have a car it’s just $45 US pp.

Mr Whittaker gathered us at the welcome pavilion and gave a well rehearsed talk on the history of this area and especially of the caves. Water was available and bug spray provided for the possibility or mosquitoes in he caves and woods. This was an amazing experience made all the more enjoyable by our friendly knowledgeable guide Yves . He kept us all engaged by throwing out clever, humorous comments that you didn’t want to miss ! along with lots of great information and insight. Mini buses take the spelunkers on a “safari “ over a dirt road section of the 200 Acre property to reach the cave area. The caves are among the easiest to visit because they have been well groomed by making the pathways lower so there’s far less ducking and absolutely no crawling! The pathways inside the caves are levelled and smoothed and strong staircases and gradual ramps help you to easily enter the caves and chambers within. Two of the caves have wired in lighting that enhance the exploration and beauty inside and the other has an opening in the roof to stream in natural light along with strong flashlight for pointing out features. The Nature Pathways between and around the caves are also easy to navigate and specimens are labelled with Name and special properties and characteristics. *The highlight
was the Lake Cave as it has a clear, pure lake deep down inside it ! There is a Rest area with food and drink and restrooms in the caves area. You are able to rest here at the end of the tour and call for a later ride back. This is what we did , opting to order Parmesan truffle fries and conch fritters ( best ones yet!) as we sat at a table in the Treehouse enjoying a cold drink and our surroundings.

Our guide was very good. Only problem was we booked 10 am tour. We reached at 9:30 am. They started 9 am tour at 9:45 am, we were told to wait for our tour to start at 10 am but our tour started at 10:40 am. Because of this we missed parrot sanctuary tour.

Better than I thought it was going to be. The caves were large enough to make it worthwhile and the water (Lake) was cool. The paths were easy enough and natural instead of paved, that make it feel to perfect.
