About Bala Lake Railway
Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

We visited on a rainy day - great little railway. Dog friendly (dogs £1) and really friendly staff. We did a return trip to Bala, having a 15 minute break there to watch the engine run round. Really enjoyed it.

This journey really takes you back in time. I remember the railway line running from Ruabon to Barmouth and this is a small part of this journey. Golygfeydd gwych.

We rode this Narrow Gauge Steam Railway from Bala to Llanuwchllyn and back, for £11 each; this takes around an hour plus any stops you make, and there were picturesque views of Bala lake and the nearby Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy mountains....More

We spent a week camping in Bala so thought we would try the Bala Lake Railway. It was very disappointing. The 30 minute journey from one end to the other was overpriced and the scenery during the journey was just average. We boarded the train...More

Our main station at Llanuwchllyn is the one with the café and shop where you can relax under cover (if it is raining) waiting for the train. All trains have closed coaches so you won't get wet if the Welsh sunshine pours... More
