The narrow gauge St. Kitts scenic railway is one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. Originally built in 1912 to deliver sugarcane from the fields to the sugar mill in Basseterre, the "Last Railway in the West Indies" now provides a fascinating way for visitors to see the island from the comfort of modern passenger train cars and sightseeing buses.

The railway hugs the Northeastern coastline where spectacular vistas of ocean, surf, cliffs, and lush vegetation surround you. The train rolls across tall steel bridges spanning deep ""ghuts"", or canyons, and winds through small villages and farms. Dark green rainforests are skirted by rippling fields of sugar can, with the volcanic cone of Mt. Liamuiga rising above the railway.

This unique rail and highway experience allows visitors the opportunity to see the island in a very short period of time. Your guide will point out all the sights as the train passes old sugar estates with abandoned windmills and chimneys.

Great way to see the island - Include the Catamaran option over the bus to get the best view of a great island

We opted for a catamaran sail along the Caribbean Sea to the base of Brimstone hill fort, along with the sugar cane train trip around the rest of the island’s east coast. We... read more

We opted for a catamaran sail along the Caribbean Sea to the base of Brimstone hill fort, along with the sugar cane train trip around the rest of the island’s east coast. We picked up our Catamaran at the ship dock and headed north along the green slopes of Mount Liamuiga. Small fishing villages and sugarcane plantations doted the coast,... More

It was our 4 th time on the island. The train is a nice alternative to bus island tours and goes along the coastline for 18 miles ( not the foll island). On the upper deck You sit open air ( can be windy and wet) , on the lower deck You sit at tables with comfortable chairs, air conditioned,... More

This tour takes you partway around the island along the sugar plantation rail route. It had great views and the train provided both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We were entertained by a trio singing acapella of popular island songs. The best views werer from the top open areas, but if you are bothered by the heat, they have air... More

Booked this tour through Fred Olsen which was our cruise line so not sure of regular price. Nice leisurely pace on this slow moving railway, drinks onboard were included in our trip and were perfect, rum punch and pina colada really good, soft drinks were also available if you prefer. Tour guides commentary informed and easy to listen to, not... More

We visited St. Kitts on a recent cruise and booked the Scenic Railway tour as one of the excursions through the cruise line. Please note that you cannot book this trip individually; it must be done through the cruise line as a group booking. The train is narrow-gauge and consists of double-decker carriages; the bottoms ones are enclosed and have... More

The train ride was very scenic with a route around 2/3 of island. Many poor areas but views were fabulous. Definitely worth the price

Ship excursion in January, 2017. Beautiful day for this train ride. Had so much fun. Took lots of photos. Left train for catamaran return to ship in the rain. Still fun, however.

This narrow gauge rail trip is very nice. Aboard a double-decker train, you travel from the extreme West end of St. Kitts (NW of Sandy Point) back East along the North shore and interior. The views are great. There are drinks served. The train is comfortable. Recommended.

This was a great way to see St. Kitts. The railway, built in 1912, was originally built to transport the sugar canes from the fields. he lastr railway in the West Indies. The upper level features a spacious open-air observation coach, from which you can enjoy panoramic views of the countryside and sea. All the locals very friendly, weaving to... More

We went on this train ride after getting off our cruise ship, It was pretty cool to see the island, If there was one thing that we found it's that it swayed from side to side alot, but beside that it was a good way to learn about the history of the island!
