While it has been a number of years since we lived in Nevis, we still remember this as one of the best beaches in the world that we have visited. We now live in Fiji, and previously lived in Aruba, and this is a great beach for everyone, but especially if you have young children. The beach is sheltered in a cove, so the kids can swim and even wade out quite far before it even approaches getting deep. The view across to St. Kitts is great! We love it! The only caveat is that during hurricane season, or following a storm, it can be quite dirty with things that wash up from the sea.

Where should I begin, Needs a major upgrade four star prices with 1/2star service, I've never seen a shower curtain like that since the 60's, the air condition is so outdated and noisy you have a hard time sleeping its right above you head, the furniture forget about it , beautiful workers but they need a quick course in hospitality, three days and yet to see a maid, there is so much potential for that property if managed and renovated could be along side Four Seasons. It is sad to say this but other than this experience my stay in Nevis was great.

Great location, peaceful, serene and tranquil.Hearing the sea and seeing the waves undulating each and every day bliss! laying in a hammock having the gentle breeze sway you utter bliss again. No hoards of tourists to bother you, no lining up for anything.
It can be sooo busy doing nothing!
Downside: menu can be repetitive, balcony area baby lizards got through the netting a few times, on the last day a large one got through. Window covering in the bathroom was not adequate, we had to put two safety pins in to secure privacy.
Other than that, we had a marvellous time and would go back.

Stayed at the Oualie Beach Resort for 9 days. If you want the Four Seasons, then go to the Four Seasons. If you want a very relaxed, comfortable, welcoming place, this is it! Our room was very spacious and comfortable, small fridge & coffee, A/C worked great. The restaurant has a very decent variety of items. I found the staff to be great. The bar is small and quaint and everyone knows everyone. The beach is clean, the grounds very manicured and tended. Lots of fruit trees and monkeys. The water perfectly clean and clear. The scuba crew was the highlight for me. They are very relaxed- this is island time, not the marine corp- but still very professional and skilled. They worked hard to make sure we saw they best sites, critters, etc. When one dive site was a little choppy, they rerouted us to a better location. They were always smiling and wanted us to be smiling, too. The prices were excellent. I've been to about a dozen Caribbean Islands and this is by far my favorite.

We were here in St. Kitts in 2012 and wanted to see Nevis this time. I know; taking a cruise ship to an island, just to get on another boat and go to a different island. Crazy, right? So once again we scoured Trip Advisor and post in Cruise Critic to find a good way to get to Nevis. RCI offered a trip there but it was an all-day thing and we wanted only a half day trip to Nevis. (“Nevis” means snow in Spanish because Columbus thought that this small island from a distance, looked like mountains covered by snow. It is said that there is a cloud on top of Nevis 80% of the time.) We also did not want to be in the big crowds and on a specific schedule (the reason we typically do private excursions). So we had made arrangements with Clivin Christmas of Blackfin Charters via email. He had arranged a taxi to pick us up and take us to Cockleshell Beach to meet him on his private boat. We confirm with him the week before via email. We are at the meeting place 10 minutes early and nobody shows up from SeaMoss Taxi (the taxi Clivin arranged for us). Now it is 15 minutes past the meeting time and a lady by the name of Beulah of Welcome Tours St. Kitts and Nevis stop to ask us if we need anything. We told her our story and she was on her phone in a split second trying to call about our ride, but without any luck. She then arranged a taxi ride for us to Cockleshell Beach; we figured we could still meet Clivin and get our boat ride to Nevis with him. Beulah hooked us up with Merlyn, what a fantastic guy!!! He took us to Cockleshell while giving us a quick tour of the island. We arrived at Cockleshell, but alas no Clivin in sight. Okay maybe he is running late. Waited another 15 minutes still no sign of him. Merlyn said he would call him for us, what a guy. He got a hold of him and he said he was fishing. Really??? He said he would have another boat come for us. Instead of dropping us off at the beach to wait on the replacement boat, Merlyn waited with us for about 20 minutes until the boat arrived. We asked if he could pick us up later and we agreed upon a time. So we arrived at Nevis (wasn’t sure it was going to happen for a while) on Oualie (pronounced "oo-a-lee”) Beach. The first thing you see is the Oualie Beach Resort. A small quaint little resort. We found a couple of loungers with a thatch umbrella and set up for the day. I was expecting for someone to come from the resort at any moment to ask for rental money for the loungers and umbrella but no one ever did. Of course the resort bar and restaurant was the only place to get any food or drink without walking a long distance. We had drinks, which were decent and lunch there. I tried Lion fish for the first time, pretty darn good, although it was served cold on a salad. I think it would have been even better grilled and served warm, but I love trying new foods so it’s all good. The beach is about 300 yards long and we saw maybe, 15 people the entire time. It was very relaxing and we had a great time there. So we got on the boat for the return trip, which was tied up at the dock the entire time we were at the Oualie Beach, and what do you know there is our man, Merlyn waiting at the dock at Cockleshell for us. On our way back to the ship we asked Merlyn if we could stop at a place we passed last time we were in St. Kitts, but did not have time to check out. It is called Carambola Beach restaurant. What a beautiful beach and restaurant, we plan on making this our next stop when we come back to St. Kitts.

This has to be one of the best beaches on the Island. There are plenty of sun loungers to choose from on the beach as well as hammocks in the shade of the palm trees. There is a diving school on the beach which takes you to all the local reefs. If you are not a certified diver you can snorkel. The sea life is amazing I saw 4 turtles on one dive, as well as a nurse shark, stingray, puffer fish and shoals of trumpet fish. Great place to paddle board which I did every day. It does get choppy round the headland but within the bay it is perfect for beginners.

I stayed out of season and there was a lot of leaves and thorny material on the beach. I picked up several beer bottles from sea bed and worried about drainage channel pouring across beach into sea.

For several years I have made Oualie Beach my hotel housing of choice in Nevis. The charming cottages are on the beach with convenient hammocks and beach chairs for your use. The staff are warm and friendly. It isn’t fancy but it’s tranquil setting makes up for any luxuries one might miss. There is. I thing like working hard and coming back to this peaceful spot.

This is a gem of a beach location for any resort but clearly the staff and owners couldn't care less. 45 minutes before any bar person bothered to come and see if we would like a drink, snacks and food again very poor, service abysmal.

There are four of us going in October...Is there a mini mart nearby to buy beer and supplies ? Is there a mini reggae type bus passing on the road? Is there a cheaper eat out option near during the day or evening? Any other good tips please??! Thanks

Hi
Awesome island lots to do. Regular bus from oulie beach in both directions. Cheap lunch nearest to airport otherwise not alot apart from the resort restaurant. Mansas farm shop nearby for excellent fruit and veg. Also sells beer and a few othervitems. If you can hire a car offers alot more freedom and allows you to get to best supermarket at ginger land!!

We will be staying at Oualie Beach from December 15th to the 28th. is there a place to rent bicycles close by?
Written December 1, 2016
I believe there's a rental place right there on the beach. We didn't rent but I remember seeing it.

Scuba Safaris is located right on Oualie Beach and does, I think a daily snorkeling outing as well as scuba diving. Great people, real friendly and I think reasonable. They have a website so you can see what else they offer.
