I took my open water at Lumbadive and couldn’t have gotten any better experience. Raquel, the instructor was a great instructor and things felt safe, natural and very fun. Highly recommend this dive center!

We had a disappointing experience with Lumbadive and Richard the divemaster. The equipment was poor, with all of the tanks leaking air. The boat was in poor repair and only one of the two motors worked. Richard and the boat driver had contentious communication with each other, making all the guests uncomfortable. The dive weights were distributed on our way to the dive site, with Richard objecting to the amount of weights requested by each guest. It was a big production and Richard had difficulty getting each person the proper weights. There was a strange level of drama about how to defog a mask, making all the divers feel inept in not knowing how to squirt soap in the mask. On the second dive Richard told us a dive master was not necessary for this dive and we could simply circle the reef on our own. When we descended we found an incredibly strong current, too strong for the group. 3 of us ended the dive after less than 10 minutes, with Richard ending the dive after 20 minutes. The last 3 members of the group didn’t know the dive had ended and fought the current hopelessly for 20 more minutes. We had to load and unload the boat with tanks, etc so not full service. Richard tries to hide behind his personality but in reality he’s not a great/safe divemaster.

Perception is realty. It look as you were not lucky while visiting Carriacou as the two reviews written were scored very low.
Contrary to your own review description, Richard was in the water for both dives. Sister Rocks dive site is one of the most pristine in all Caribbean as you can read in many reviews. Sometimes, at full moolow tide condition, we could encounter some stronger current. Richard under estimate your experience and should have brought you on a quieter dive site. I did address the issue with him.
After more than 1,500 happy certifications, Richard is well known, for his passionate interaction on the boat: mask preparation, weight selection, ears clearing techniques to make sure dive will be the best experience for each diver. Some people may not need to be reminded. Accept our appology.
Richard is 75. Although he is still is excellent physical condition, bring back 14 tanks/equipment for even a short walk from jetty to dive shop can be challenging. Most of the time we offer a full VIP service for smaller groups. Most divers will insist to bring back their own equipment and Lumbadive will take care of rinsing and storing gears. Sorry, we should have offered to take care of yours.
Since you come, we fix the dive boat which has a steering cable to be replaced. We have two working engines for your safety. However as most dive sites are within 10 minutes, only one engine is use most of the time. With 2 engines, the dive boat could fly at 25 knots. The fastest dive boat on the island.
We always carry spare regulator, mask, snorkel, o'rings, Oxygen, First Aid Kit; even vaseline for moustache . Valve o'ring is replaced if any leak could reduce dive time or if a diver requests so.
Thank you for your review. We do agree that no guest should be uncomfortable over boat captain and divemaster interaction. We did fix the problem.

Richard and Raquel are top notch!
The best of the best.
As an experienced diver, it was a pure pleasure being treated to a good duo (team!).
From pre-arrival to sadly leaving, love the service!
Merci encore pour tout, Richard!
Raquel, I’ll wish you and Seb the best futures!
Drop us line when you are back north. xo

I was referred to Lumbadive last year while visiting Grenada. I took a day trip to Carriacou where I had the pleasure of meeting Richard and Diane. Yesterday, I returned to Grenada after spending 5 days once again on Carriacou with Richard to obtain my advanced open water certification. I ended up doing 9 dives over 5 days, more than what was needed but to add to my comfort and experience. Richard by far is the best and most detail oriented instructor I have ever encountered. It’s not just his wealth and depth and breadth of knowledge but his approach. The way he explains things. His desire for the student to truly understand what he is teaching you. And making the student put the effort and the work in, not just giving the student the answer. In 5 days I went from an uncertain and nervous diver to someone who now possesses the fundamental/ core knowledge to keep me safe and my dive buddy safe. I am so beyond appreciate of Richard for this amazing experience and giving me the gift of diving. I highly recommend Lumbadive and a trip to Carriacou. The diving is incredible and Lumbadive is amazing.

These guys let me down. I booked a Discovery SCUBA day with a view to going on to do my PADI and when I turned up they'd taken a booking from a family of 3 instead. I understand they receive more money for 3 than 1 but that sure isn't the way to treat customers. Still, the positive is that the other dive school in Tyrell Bay was fabulous, truly fabulous.

Yes, we let her down. After many visits, our instructor Raquel and I wrongly assess that scuba diving may not be for her. She proved us wrong as she got certify by another dive center on the island. We feel now that we made the right decision not to tell her our feeling.
However, we feel it is not fair to receive a low score as she never use our excellent service as shown in majority of all other review.
Should TripAdvisor allows such a review? It is you to figure.
Heather, you did not do a review for the dive center you took your course with. Why?

Did a dive at Tropical Hill, and it was one of the best dives I've done in the last ten years. Diane and Richards were great! We will definitely go back soon to do the Sisters Dive. Very safe SCUBA instructors, but fun as well.

We first dove with Lumbadive 4 years ago and absolutely loved the team!! Richard by himself is enough to give the experience 5 stars- not to mention the incredible, colorful reefs we dove with our dive master, Racquel! We saw a ~65 year old turtle, and six reef sharks! For as long as we return to Carriacou, we will be diving here!

We had a perfect day of diving with Richard of Lumbadive last week and the boat driver, Josh, was fantastic, too! As advanced divers, we enjoy being given a little freedom to explore, while still following the dive master and Richard provided just that. We dove Sisters Rock and then Something Special and both sites were wonderfully diverse in all forms of sea life. When we described things we saw once back on the dive boat, Richard knew exactly what we were describing by name. (We checked our DeLoach books later and he was spot on!) Lumbadive is a professional shop that clearly cares about making the best experience for their guests. We will be back!!

Hello Sara,
Thanks for this lovely review.
We are happy you had fun with Richard and Josh.
We made good pride of knowing the fish, coral and plants divers can encounter underwater.
It was fun having you around and look forward to see you soon.
Regards,

And now for something good! Thank you Diane AND Richard.
You have again demonstrated a commendable amount of patience. My wife and I appreciate the fact you have been so supportive of all of us here at anchor. Providing logistics support, forwarding government information when it becomes available. Clarifying the sometimes confusing rules.
This time would truly have been even more challenging without your kindness, understanding and UNPAID Volunteer efforts.
Expectations are key here and I expect the quarentine to relax in stages. But only through the trust relationship we create.
We have to trust the authorities who are the legal and moral authority of this beautiful island, and the government has to trust us. That we will follow the laws put into place to manage this challenge.
Thankfully the majority of people who are here have abided by the rules. I am sad that some have not, but there will always be those people in any society.
Slowly over the course of time we will have more privilages. But it will take time, and Trust.
I sense an end to this. We are already seeing more shopping days. I would expect in five days we have more shops available... ( I am personally looking forward to getting our fresh water pump repaired).
How do we thank Grenadians who have come into our lives. We also appreciate you are helping organize donations for local families. my wife and I have donated to a Go Fund Me Page as recommended by Alison @ Paradise Beach Club, Carriacou. Either way it's time to help others as you have helped us.
Thanks for ALL your efforts, you can expect our support in kind very soon!
Time to go swimming!

Eljeem,
Thank you for this lovely review on our services during the curfew and confinement due to COVID-19.
We will continue our support till the authority will allow the Island to come back to activities everyone were doing.
We at Lumbadive are treating people the way we would like to be treated.
So it is natural that we gave our support to the sailors community and to local people less fortunate.
Doing groceries was fun, we never shop this much :) some days we had over 16 to do.
Collecting non perishable food to redistribute it is our way to say thanks o Carriacou population to accept us on their Island for the last 10 years.
Eljeem, keep safe and healthy
