Getting here was an experience on narrow two-lane roads. The day was rainy and several small bus loads of tourists made the trek. Saw a large number of hummingbirds at the feeding station at the visitor center. Going downhill and then back uphill on wet, slippery rocks, stones and leaves was somewhat bothersome. Saw limited number of birds from ground... More

Asa Wright Nature Centre is something of a one off. Set in an old estate house, it has become a magnet for anyone interested in the plants, insects, reptiles but most of all the birds of the Trinidadian rain forest. The facilities are good - clean and simple - and the food is simply fun. It is very much a... More

Good place for short birdwatching (guided tour lasts 1.5 hr, two times a day) but it will take you much longer to enjoy all those birds around! I could spend all day just sitting on the verandas and watching hummingbirds coming every minute. It is hard to get there without your own car but you need to visit it during... More

While the location is way up in the mountains (prepare for a long and windy drive), the location is very beautiful. The setting is nice. We enjoyed a great meal while looking out at the mountains. For people who enjoy seeing wildlife, it's a good trip. I might also recommend places such as Yerrette Hummingbird Garden and the Wild Fowl... More

I could sit on that deck endlessly watching those incredible birds. The staff is really good at spotting distant birds and getting a scope on them pronto! They're constantly scanning the distance, because, honestly, its hard to drag your eyes away from the feeders teeming with technicolor birds right in front of you. We did not stay here, it was... This was our second stay at Asa Wright, the first being in June of 2000. Everyone is still very helpful and the accommodations are well kept. The restaurant serves 3 meals at prompt times (see website). The area is well kept with well informed personnel capable of providing most all the answers needed concerning birds, animals. etc.

Visited Asa wright and was severely disappointed. We took a tour and saw none of the rare birds which were supposed to inhabit the area. There was one lone agouti and many hummingbirds, but I've seen more wildlife on the road leading to Asa wright. It's also not worth the price.

I wish we could have stayed here but it was out of our budget so we made a day trip. This included a guided walk where we saw lots of birds and got an introduction to the property. The verandah is amazing, so many hummingbirds!

Took a group of students as a field trip. The journey to Asa Wright is very long and the road a bit narrow. It is always best to go in a group. No regrets. It is magical and surreal. It is being one with nature. Wonderful, knowledgeable tour guide.
