Maracas is crass and busy and noisy. This still has decent crowds on a weekend but calmer, without the greasy food joints. The Las Cuevas Beach Lodge is a middlin-fair place, over-priced during Carnival but, the rest of the year, prices would be proportionate to what you get. For an added treat, walk around the beach to the right to the old Fort Abercomby to see the cannons and lookout station; down some steep steps to the right is a lovely hideaway cove.

Beautiful almost perfect beach
Green lush surroundings, great waves, clean nice water
When we visited July 2022 there was both umbrellas and chairs for rent, a small shop with trini snacks, many delicious homemade, and a small fast food restaurant with bake n’ shark, shrimps etc and beer & soft drinks.
Beautiful sunset
Really a great vibe, not many people.
Only thing not making this a 5 star is the sandflies. But they are not bad. They just leave a small red mark. Use repellent every time you have been in the water and you’re fine.

This beach was so beautiful and well-maintained. The locals working in this area were respectful. We spent several hours sitting along the beach, going in the water & watching kids playing cricket. The only recommendation I have is to make sure that you bring bug spray. There are little flies & their bites sting!

Beautiful, one of my favourite places. Even if the beach is crowded, there is always a spot you can find to feel secluded and away from it all. The water is so fun, have to be a good swimmer. I especially love getting a little nook that’s in a cave in the rocks, laying down and reading all day. The sand flies are definitely something to consider.

This is a beautiful beach with very good facilities restroom and showers
The cons are there is not a lot of places to buy food like Maracas and thee we hard biting sand flies so you would need to use a spray to deter them

Las Cuevas beach is located on the North coast of Trinidad. It's about a 35 minute drive from Port of Spain. I went on a Saturday. The parking lot was full, but there wasn't really many people on the beach. There are bathrooms with changing facilities and showers. Beach is nice, with calm waves and beautiful water! There are some trees to get out of the direct sunlight. I'd definitely go back again.

In Trinidad after 4 years break, and went initially to Maracas, but so much construction work on there , decided to drive onto Las Cuevas beach.
Good parking, washing/toilet facilities available, food, drink.
Beach was quiet, and sand looked looked neat, water was less rough than Maracas , so more enjoyable for bathing.
Had a really good time there, and stopped off on way back for bake and shark at Richards(Maracas). Great day.

I was able to compare both the popular Maracas Bay (MB) and Las Cuevas Beach (LCB) - about five miles beyond. LCB is much calmer, the water clearer and ideal for swimming. MB has more active waves and you need to be a strong swimmer to handle the currents. MB has more facilities and eatery options and is clearly the more popular hangout.

Bring bug spray for sure! But even that doesn’t help with the amount of sand fly’s that are there! The beach looked beautiful but we didn’t stay to long due to the amount of sand flys! Still a must see beach while in Trinidad. Maybe the time we went the bugs was out!

How far is it from Las Cuevas Beach Lodge to Maracas Bay and how much would it be to go there by taxi?
