Admittedly, I visited during the COVID pandemic, but this was genuinely one of the worst museums that I've ever visited (especially given the $10/person admissions fee). There was genuinely very little to see... Very few signs/information plaques to read... and just very poorly maintained overall (grass growing tall and weedy outside). I would NOT recommend... and I suggest that the management reconsider their admissions fee. It's ridiculous!

The lady in the ticket office apparently didn't expect anyone to actually come to buy a ticket as I stood at the window for a few minutes attempting to get her attention with my voice while she read some letter. I finally had to knock on the window and she gave some vague, rushed instructions. We ended up giving ourselves a self-guided tour, which certainly wasn't worth the $10 each we had to pay.

We visited St. Thomas in December of 2019 and decided to take the guided tour with Levi early in the morning. We stayed with the tour from start to finish while others joined for awhile and then went off to explore on their own. Levi has an extensive knowledge of the Fort and it is clear that he loves to share the stories. He even took photos of us with our cameras at several points along the way. The tour took well over an hour which made the fee to get in very reasonable... you could easily walk through the place in less than 15 minutes but would miss many small details that were preserved so that visitors could get a better idea of the places' history. We spent more time after the tour going back and looking at the things that interested us. All four of us were glad that we decided to go in and take the tour...

My wife and I attempted to visit this site on Friday, February 28, 2020. We got there around 1:30 and a sign said they were closed for lunch till 2:15. We came back around 2:30 but they were still closed. There was no one to be seen. A couple of other potential visitors were hanging around wondering if it would open. A local tourist guidebook says the Fort has period furniture, a cane press and displays on local flora and fauna. If so we didn't get to see any of it. Perhaps they are under funded. When traveling you don't have time to wait, so I hope they can find a way to stay open in mid-day. I wish the operators well but I can't recommend it.

I don't write a lot of 'activity' reviews (mostly restaurants) but this place was great. If you don't mind a bit of self-guiding, it is the best $10 that I have spent on the island.
The facility is clean and well maintained. A lot of the rooms have wall mounted iPads which provide you with a ton of detail about what you are visiting and how it was used.
The self-guided tour stars in the dungeon and you are introduced to some of the sadder aspects of the history of Danish slave trading. You get to explore every nook and cranny after the dungeon and don't forget to climb the stairs to the ramparts for an absolutely spectacular view of the harbor.

With powerful art and a well-documented history, this place tells a moving story. I almost regret the airiness of my title as this place is a serious shrine to depict the inhumanity that occurred years ago. But I will leave the title to draw you in, dear reader, as you must see this place and read this important history. Note the contract between the jail quarters and those in charge of the facility. That we saw it on Emancipation Day was very meaningful. You must go up on the roof, though, and look out on the bay. It is amazing.

The price of admission seemed a little steep (no senior discount) considering it was a self-guided tour. We were handed no brochure or a map to explain what we’d see. While we toured around, there were several pictures of people hanging in the walls in the dungeon, but no explanation of who they were and what they had to do with the fort. We ended up having to look it up in wikipedia. The folks running the fort could put a little effort into signage to explain what we were seeing!

Not recommended at all. The lady at the ticket office was absolutely unfriendly, unlike the beautiful nature on the island. I spent lots of time getting there on a hot day, and she didn't let me in only because her card machine was not working properly, which was not my fault. Unbelievable.

The guy that is the tour guide there. i cant remember his name. he is so every passionate about this place and the history. It warmed my heart to hear him share with me and my husband and the other couple. Walking around this place makes you feel somethings that no one should ever feel.

I have been coming to St. Thomas since 1966. Feb. 2021 was the first time I have seen Ft. Christian opened. Entrance fee was $10, a value I'd say. The ticketing lady was helpful and delightful, answering any questions we had. WE spent about 1.5 hours self guiding through the fort. It appears it was used mostly as a fort..... and I'm happy I never had to be a guest there. This is not El Morro in San Juan, but if you are a history buff or just like old forts, as do I, It's worth the time to visit...

hi, we would like to visit here, but I can't find hours of operation or if it's open for tours. We are here on vacation, not on a cruise.

Hej Merete,
Jeg rejser til St. Thomas på fredag d. 13. januar med min efterskole. Jeg kan skrive om Fort Christian er åben, når jeg kommer hjem. :)

I do not believe so. Iam told a small part of the fort is opened only for paid tours that have remade appointments. Badger bob.
