Only way to get to St. john

Efficient movement of people and luggage to the island. Not inexpensive and they do charge for large bags. And remind you to tip!

If you are way back in line and think you will not make this ferry, think again. Somehow they manage to get everyone and their luggage on board.

The east end of the island is very beautiful. Make it a day by visiting saphire beach, bird of paradise, anchorage and cowpet bays then hop the ferry to st. John. This ferry offers exquisite views. In october whales pass through the east end i spotted them off anchorage beach-amazing!

I live here. I use the ferry quite often. It's safe. Never afraid, even in bad weather. Not much of that here. Some are air conditioned. I love to ride outside.

I was riding the Caribe ferry from red hook to Cruz Bay and one of the passengers who lives in the Virgin Islands was telling me about how they collided with another boat last week. The crew is hard to understand and spend most of the time talking loudly to each other instead of paying attention to the questions that... More

We rode the car ferry. It's kind of an awkward way of getting on, you have to back onto the ferry. It cost $3 to get in the line, and $50 once you're on. Expect you to have cash. To say the least it's a bit awkward. On the other hand, the views are incredible, cheapest way to get transported... More

CAR FERRY: #1--it's CASH only. $50 round trip, plus a $3-5 fee as you enter the loading area. Two of the three competitors have joined forces, so you can pay the less expensive round trip fare and use either for your return trip. Of course, you have no way of really knowing on which ferry you are as they aren't... More

To get to St. John from St. Thomas you need to take the Virgin Island Ferry . From downtown St. Thomas the ferry is about 40 minutes. Lovely way to get a feel of the islands sitting on the upper deck. We prefer the Ferry Ride from RedHook, it can take around 20 minutes. Many of the locals and school... More

It is a regular ferry that runs on schedule taking 20 mins to cross and seems to fit everyone aboard as needed. Parking will be better one day when the new parking structure is completed but the overflow lot and shuttle worked fine for us.
