We saw Clapper Rails and Yellow-crowned Night-herons at very close range. Also many other birds in relatively close proximity to Francis Bay.

We came upon Francis Bay Trail and were glad that we did, it was a nice, easy and shady hike! We came in the back way after parking near the beach, so we were pleasantly surprised to come upon the ruins and easy walk back...More

This is a nice nature walk. The boardwalk, built by the local Rotary Club, goes through a salt marsh forest to a salt pond. There were ducks and other waterfowl present from the lookout areas built along the boardwalk. It was a nice quiet view...More

This was fun and beautiful. Hiking and beach all in one. The owner of where we stayed highly recommended Francis Bay, glad we took his suggestion.

Get up early and enjoy watching many ducks herons and stilts on this secluded salt pond. The trail is challenging so if you want an easier option park at the beach and walk along the boardwalk

This was an easy and enjoyable trail. We saw pintail ducks and some other birds, plus a bat. Shaded, so enjoyable if hot.

The physical location is stunning, and if you are not around when the bugs come out (often around 4:00 p.m.), it is well worth the visit. But Francis is one of the more "buggy" beaches on St. John, so come prepared with repellant! Nature at...More

Good spot for birding in St. John. We arrived early and saw some ducks and egrets in the pond. Look for the little crabs on the ground along the boardwalk. Be careful along the boardwalk because it can get slippery.

this visit was a great turtle day. We saw over 5 turtles, small and large, but just eating around. I have been to this beach many times, but this year, it was not too crowded, and it was really nice
