The Midland Railway - Butterley is a heritage railway running Steam and Diesel hauled trains that take visitors to our museum complex at Swanwick Junction. Here you can visit our Railway Museum,Coutry Park, Demonstration Signal Box, Victorian Railwayman's Church, the West Shed Experience, home of the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust, Narrow Gauge Miniature and Model Rauilways. Good day out at the midland railway centre with a trip on a steam hauled train. Coaches took me back to how trains used to be. The museum are is very interesting. The cafe even reminded me of the old style station buffets.

I did see an engine in the siding with a Gordon face but it was on the tracks. I presume they will do Thomas weekends would be worth a phone call first hope to that helps 😊

You can now get a family ticket through 'Woucher' for £18. I have used this ticket and it is good value.

Trains depart from the Butterley Station which is on the B6179 just outside Ripley. The site has free parking. The train travels through a long scenic cutting before arriving at the Swanwick Junction site. At this site... More
