I read all the other reviews before we visited last week. The brown sign on the main road for the walk down was covered by a bush, but a lady at the Tommy store directed us. The sign and path is just back down the road a little from the Tommy shop. As others have said before, sensible shoes are required. Trainers or walking shoes/sandles. The little bar on the rocks above the cave was closed, but snorkels and life jackets were considerately left for use. We left our belongings on the rocks and used the rope and metal handle to lower ourselves into the sea. I’d recommend swimming/rock shoes as it’s a clamber out again and also onto the rocky platform in the cave is made easier.
You can only see the little gap to the tunnel and cave from the sea. The colour is so beautiful in the sun and so worth the climb down. We’d go again 😊

We did a 2.5 km down hike to the cave. Excellent signage and great walk! There os a lovely trendy little cafe just near the cave with excellent drinks and great background music( Miles Davis was played🎵) Amazing views. You can dive off the cliffs and enter the cave!

Beautiful cave. It takes 20 min walk from parking near the grocery store. It is best to visit at calm sea and at around 12 h(in summer time) when the sun lights up the entrance and gives it beautiful turquoise color.

Crystal clear water with various hights for dives... Kiddos liked it and we had to visit it twice actually. It's a bit tough to reach in It's last segment and return back as well but definitely worthy. I loved the small refreshment place at the spot.

Cool cave, we came by boat in the middle of a week long trip. Def worth the stop for a quick 15 min swim in/ out and hang. Watch out for jumping tourists off the rocks when you’re there. I didn’t climb up and jump off but it looked like fun.

First things first: the cave is fabulous and all the things said in 5-points comments are true. Water is unbelievably clear and blue and the caves are even more massive than you can guess from the pictures. But...

The cave area was ruined. Trash everywhere. On the trail. In the ocean. In the cave. Broken glass bottles, plastics in all forms, deserted kitchenware and even clothes. Found three pair of swimming pants, one shoe nearby the cave. Abandoned, partly destroyed hippie bar. Bar stuff all over the place. Drowned mice in open buckets, propably meant for washing dishes of the bar. Yuk...

I guess it quickly gets to blaming tourists for the trash, but in this case it is caused most clearly by locals and for the business. People of Mljet, please care for your nature. It is all you got. Lead by example and show tourists that you care, so they will care too.

Wow what a wonderful experience, things to know - wear walking shoes there is approx 15-20 minute walk from the supermarket, it’s down hill, and rocky. Wear a hat and sun cream, take water. NOT suitable for young children unless they are really good swimmers.
So once you actually get there - you need to find a spot on the cliff to leave your bags etc, there are different levels on which you can dive and the water goes down 80 meters (or so we were told by a local).
Keep a close eye on the sea, it changes quickly and makes getting back out difficult when rough.
This is the first time I have ever dived off cliff edges and although terrified, it was one of the most exciting experiences. The water within the cave was Chrystal clear and the most wonderful blue photos can not do it justice. There is a rope to help you pull out of the water and natural steps but they are high and good arm muscle is needed. There is no shaded areas so take sun screen and a hat.
I would recommend a morning or afternoon, all day under direct sunlight and you would be asking for trouble.
Lastly memories your route down! We got a little lost on the way back up through the rocks once your on the path not an issue.
One last thing the cave can only be entered via jumping into the sea... in the past there were steps but they have long been taking by the see - jump/dive ...

This place is just awesome, especially because it not in all touristic tours. We had the chance to access the cave in the late morning, when few people were there and the weather was perfect. We could jump from the cliff (1-2 meters jump) easily, and then swim within the cave : the blue color of the sea and the pink rock seemed magical.

The cave is incredibly beautiful and the water is warm and very blue. Thisnwas our favorite part of the trip to mjlet. The last review said that the path is closed so they could not reach the cave. While it's true that the path down to the tunnel is closed, if you turn right from the fenced off path and keep walking down you will get to the cave. You'll see a small canopy set up, which is a little cafe. You can reach the cave by walking through the cafe and following the blue arrows on the ground. Shortly after you'll see the seaside cliffs leading down into the cave. Enjoy!

TL;DR - you can, in fact, get to the cave. Just go right instead of left when you reached the fenced off part.

Very hard walk down if parked outside the supermarket, & an even harder walk back up. Thw walk is on a South facing slope so be sure to take lots of water as it is almost all in the full sun. Also wear sensible shoes as the last part of the walk to the cave is pretty rocky with some very uneven stones. I did it in flip flops which I would definitely NOT recommend! The walk back up was like a herculean labour!
I will however say, IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!
