We came to this park for a little staycation close to home. It was nice, I'm glad we only stayed for a couple of days because the campground itself doesn't have much to offer. We mostly enjoyed sitting around at the campsite socializing, having a fire, and visiting the nearby town.

Campground:
We stayed at one of the electric campgrounds. These campgrounds offer very little privacy. We were side by side with our neighbours behind us, beside us and in front of us. There weren't many trees to offer privacy so our we had to makeshift privacy by parking the car and placing tents to block our view. There were enough trees to tie tarps in case of rain which I appreciated. I sort of enjoyed being close to the other campers it made the campground feel more homely, but I know that's not everyone's thing. Otherwise the campground came with your common campground stuff, a fire pit and a picnic table. These campgrounds had a very rocky terrain so be mindful about bringing extra ground tarps to protect the bottom of your tent. The non-electric sites definitely offered more privacy.

Lake:
The park sits on the north end of Lake Simcoe and the beach area was busy. Many people come to this park for day use, so the beach area is where people tend to go. The lake is lovely, its warm and shallow, the water is clear and has a really nice rippled sandy bottom. I really enjoyed being in the lake. Dogs are prohibited from being on the beach but may use the picnic area. Plenty of dog owners had their dog on the beach anyway and that was perfectly fine with me, just have that be expected. There is a boating dock way off to the side.

Amenities:
Don't think this park had a park store. No canoe rentals. I saw maybe 1 hiking trail?. This park is pretty small and is most popular for it's day use so not too many fantastic camping amenities. Comfort stations were pretty standard, could be cleaned more often if I had to complain about something. There were water spouts throughout the campgrounds. The campground is very close to Orillia so we enjoyed some time there visiting the cute town. We hit up the farmers market them the car show.

It was a good time. I had fun spending a couple nights away from home enjoying the lake. I wouldn't spend more than 3 nights at this park. There isn't much to do. It's just nice for a little weekend getaway.

It's a small beautiful campground. The beach area is large and the water is shallow and clean of seaweed. To the far side of the beach is a dog friendly beach. The bathrooms and showers were cleaned in the mornings and in the afternoon. We will be going back again.

Very little privacy and excessive loud noise all day (starts early, lasts until the late evening, around 11 or midnight). You're literally camping right in a swamp so there are hordes of mosquitoes at all hours of the day. There really aren't any trails so the only thing to do besides get devoured by bugs at your site, is to spend time at the beach...which is crowded and NOT pet friendly. We had booked for 3 nights and left the morning after the first night. Needless to say, we would never go back and never recommend.

What a great little Park!!! We discovered Mara after Covid cancelled our other reservations. Wanting to get away during the week we came across one hydro site left at Mara from Sunday - Thursday and snapped it up.
Only one hour & 20 minutes away from home, made it a nice easy drive. Our site was huge and offered 75% privacy. Everyone was friendly at checkin as were the park rangers during our stay!
The walk to the beach was about 10 minutes from our site and it is amazing. A little over busy on the Sunday due to day use but the rest of the week was perfect. A gradual sandy walkin and wade out is perfect for the little ones.
There is one comfort station and it was kept spotless! The showers were up and running which surprised us.
This Park is a hidden gem and we will definitely be back for a longer stay!

~ Stayed at Mara Provincial park again this summer..
I love this park because it has a great beach..
We have a 25foot travel trailer so we book sites with hydro hookup.. But this year we deceided to try out a new site - so I booked site #6 two times.. Once in July and once in August - but very disappointed ...
Site #6 - if standing facing it - you have the fire pit on the left and the hydro hookup post on the left side of the site ???..
We have a 50ft extension cord for our trailer but still found it impossible to park on the opposite side (the right side of the site) of the fire pit and the hydro hookup post.. So you have to pull your trailer into the left side of the site so your front door opens onto the site and this makes it very difficult to get your trailer out off the site on exit day..
I do not recommend site #6 and I will make sure to not book that site again.. Site #6 would be great for tents or small popup campers -
Otherwise the campground should move the fire pit to the opposite side of the site...
Other than that - the park is great..

Because of COVID travel restrictions we decided to enjoy Ontario's lakes and beaches.
We spend one full day on Mara's beach.
The park well maintained, clean, organized, people trying to keep safe distance between families.
Sandy beach and clear water for swimming, what else do we need if we can't go to Caribean.

Visited Mara mid July on a very last minute booking. We had a reservation at silent lake, but that park had a fire ban so we cancelled and Mara was one of only a few parks that had available sites in S Ontario so we had no choice but to take it.

Pros: close to amenities in Orillia, small park that’s very quick to get to the beach from the sites, sandy beach area is large and water is shallow and clean - great for young kids.

Cons: Mosquitos were a big issue all day long, not just during dawn and dusk. they were constantly attacking. there is a swampy marshy water area between sites 96 and 97 that probably is responsible for this. We were at site 83 but the whole camp area was very heavy with mosquitos.
Beware!!
Other Cons: no bike or hike trails, no canoe rental. many sites are very poor for privacy. park office sells firewood but it was very wet and took 2hr of max effort to finally get going. (next day bought wood at Tremblys Tackle Box (6 km away) which took only a few minutes to get going). lastly, the park is close enough to Hwy 12 that you can easily hear truck engine brake sounds starting from about 5am.

we won’t be returning here to camp. for a day trip to just use the beach it would be good.

We spent a few days with a group of friends, we had 3 sites together. The site were very small and not much space in between. It was fine with us because we are all friends but the rest of the campers it just felt to close and the noise level was way to high. Most nights you would hear car alarms and horns going off(also during the day).

The bathrooms and showers were dirty most of the time. I witnessed a lady washing her feet in the sink, which to me is against health code. I have camped at many other sites and never seen this done and the bathrooms were in much better condition.

The beach was very nice, very large and many picnic tables. But good luck getting a table on the weekends. The beach was over run by day trippers, unless you are there at 8 in the morning reserving a table you will not get one. The beach should be for the campers or have a separate beach for day users( just a suggestion).

Overall it was just an average campsite, we would likely not go back.

This beach is beautiful. You almost feel like you’re somewhere tropical. There is a very nice children’s playground right on the beach as well, which is a big bonus for the little ones. There is also a large shaded picnic area and a place to wash your feet. The tent sites unfortunately are quite close together and not all that private. The best ones were 8,10,12 and others on that loop. These however are electrical campsites, but it’s where I would want to pitch my tent. There is some wetlands around the loop that has the unserviced tent sites (which I assume would be buggy) and that’s the only reason I’m not highlighting any of those sites besides 69 which was nice looking. I don’t think there is a park store here with items you can purchase if you forgot something. The trail system looked small but promising. I can’t comment because we didn’t get a chance to hike. There were swings in an area near the beach for the kiddies as well. Lots of things to do in Orillia as well which is a short drive if you get bored.
