About
La Bufadora is a marine geyser that regularly shoots seawater up to 100 feet in the air from a submerged cave. Even on a calm day, be prepared to get wet from the spray. But the best time to visit is when the waves are high and the sprays are more impressive. La Bufadora is located on the beautiful Punta Banda peninsula, making it a highlight on day trips from Ensenada. Consider joining a tour that includes transportation and a local guide who'll show you around the blowhole and nearby market for plenty of food and trinkets. – Tripadvisor

- rising4livingFort Worth, Texas6 contributionsOverall A Good TimeThe drawback were the over-enthusiastic vendors. Some knew when to quit bothering us, some not. La Bufadora itself was impressive, although a tough walk for the elderly. I was allowed to bring my vehicle closer to pick up my mother in law, as she was tired. You will pay to park, but don’t follow the guy at the first entrance. Another 500 feet down the road is a 2nd entrance, which gets you closer.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 3, 2023
- Calgaryskichick438 contributionsBeautiful views!Amazing views, bring dry clothes :) Yep, you do have to walk through 10 minutes of people trying to sell you churros and tequila but just smile and say no thank you if you don’t want any. The views are amazing and the blow hole is fascinating. We did get soaking wet but you know what we came away with souvenir Ensenada hoodies!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 30, 2023
- Trip Reviewer7 contributionsGreat experience!I took a shore excursion from the Carnival Radiance. It is a 30-40 min drive from Ensenada. When you get there, there is a street of about 2 blocks filled with stores, food stands and bars selling almost anything from jewelry, fake Gucci bags, Chinese toys, souvenirs, and fresh food. The vendors are very pushy and they give out lots of free samples. The blowhole was crowded and it shoots up very frequently. This is a big tourist hot spot. Great views too!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten January 1, 2024
- rmartinmitchBoston, Massachusetts666 contributionsShopping and a Blowhole - Who Can Resist That?We had a chance to visit La Bufadora during our recent trip to Ensenada. It's sometimes called a geyser, but the blowhole is really caused by rising pressure in the caves below the cliff. It goes off every 30 seconds or so and sends a large spray in the air. Kind of interesting but not a huge deal. The real experience is walking the line of the many, many shops that you are required to pass to reach the site. Many of the sellers are pretty aggressive. They are passing out free shots of tequila and lots are offering medications to fit your every need. Fun if you are into that sort of thing.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 19, 2024

my experience was BE AWARE carnival cruise ship doesn't tell you two things, one, Ensenada has unsafe roads and many potholes and doesn't care about safety on buses to La Bufadora, do not go there. They gouge prices to all tourists and they rip you off....and the road is falling into the ocean side of the hills. They have major road repairs that are needed for decades now, one accident will occur soon and all will die. Get ready to sue them or start now. They are putting you in danger by allowing you to board a bus to this region. Do not go there for any reason, Second, they don't tell you there is no Blow Hole adventure most of the time, you will be disappointed. There must be a high tide to enjoy the blow hole or its nothing but a con game to rip off tourists selling junk, yup just junk, same old things you can get at Olvera Street or in any mexican store in the USA. The same thing they sell at the border or in downtown. Junk. ANd they rip you off.

We booked this tour as an alternative to the excursion offered by the cruise ship, and so glad we did! Brayan and Lucy did an amazing job of accommodating our group of 9 (two families, including kids) by keeping us together for the tour and shopping in the marketplace, but also custom tailoring the experience to each of our families wishes. They went out of their way to point out all the sights along the way, gave us pointers on the best deals in the marketplace and hooked us up with Lydia's, where we had some of the best tacos ever! Good communication, professional, friendly and well worth the money. If you are looking for a fun day in Ensenada, without the hefty price-tag that the cruiselines charge, or the cattle call feel of the tour bus , then I highly recommend Ensenada Travel Tours.

Mixed emotions about this one. We visited Ensenada on a cruise and hadn't planned to get off the ship but then decided to. The shuttle bus from the cruise dock drops you in town on a main street. they really talked up the Blow Hole, or la Bufadora so we bit on the tour. Its about an hour drive out to the Blow hole on poorly maintained roads. Once we arrived we parked and walked down the street about 400 yards to see the Blow Hole. The Blow Hole itself is pretty cool, but both sides of the street to walk down to the Blow hole are lined with vendors. I thought that they were pretty aggressive trying to get you to shop their little stand. It was pretty annoying but I get it, its their livelihood. Most of the stand were selling much the same stuff. After viewing the Blow Hole, we walked back up the street and ate at a great little place called Lidia's taco grill, which I do recommend.
Long drive, aggressive vendors and a Blow hole, but great tacos.

It was our first time in Mexico.
So we booked the tour via the cruise ship, prices were over double the local price, but it is much safer and you have a very good english speakung guide.
Traffic was bad and return trip took well over one hr, so plan carefully if you are returning back to the ship.
The local flea market was really good, very cheap prices and locals went out of their wY to be friendly.
My hat blew away in Hawaii so I brought another hat for $30 dollars, which would have cost $200 dollars in USA. Coconut drink prepared in front of you for $6, was $28 in Wikiki beach.
All in all a good excursion. but I would not recomend travelling alone.

We normally love this place on our way South because it is close to a Calimex for groceries, close to Lupita's excellent Fish Tacos, and the beach view is splendid. This year we notice that maintenance is even less than previous years and they charged us 433$ per night. No fresh water, no hydro, no sani dump.

It is unfortunate that this place has gotten so commercialized but I guess that's the name of the game here. Vendors are everywhere and you are hassled as soon as you get out of your car. Don't get upset or confused just enjoy the madness. Vendors will offer you sample of free margarita, churros, caramelized nuts, etc. Accept them or pass on it. The tacos at Tacos Pancho Villa (I think that's the name) are horrible but the seating in the back outdoor small patio is the best! Maybe skip the tacos and just have a drink while you enjoy the view. Also avoid Habana Banana where the service is slow and the food is mediocre. Save your appetite for Puerto Nuevo!

We were on a cruise and this was one of the excursions available. We took a 50 minute bus ride along the scenic coast line and arrived at a street filled with all sorts markets of local food and gifts. At the end of the 15 minute walk, we arrived at the blowhole - better to see it at high tide because the exploding water is perfect for video! There is also a nice large ENSENADA sign to take memorable pictures in front of!

A must place to visit in Ensenada. Rent a taxi to visit if you have 4 or more in your party, this way it would be cheaper than the tour bus.
Tacos were very good at the flea market there. Beware of the things you buy there, a lot of them are fake brand names and be prepared for a lot of bargaining, I mean a lot.....

It met all my expectations, the views during the last part of the outward journey alone are worth the return trip there.
I recommend going early and then returning to Ensenada or the Valley to eat because there isn't much there.
Don't expect more than literally seeing and hearing the water "snorting" and the very beautiful view of the sea, if you go expecting restaurants and things to do more than that, then they are going wrong.
It's worth it if you're already around, because it's the only puffer in the country, and there are only 3 others in the world.

Horse back riding at the Bufadora is pricy. Is there a better deal elsewhere?

Hi, does one has to walk a lot when visiting la bufadora? I am visiting with old parents and have limited mobility. They can walk but not a lot at a time. Any suggestions??
Written June 11, 2019
You would have to look out for the restaurants and bars to sit for a bit. There are no "park" benches until you get to the end by the blow hole. There you can find steps and ledges to sit down on. If they have the walkers with the seats it would be ideal. It is a relatively flat walk. There are some steps at the end newar the blowhole.

Gracias.
