About
Rosarito Beach is a popular surf spot in Baja Mexico that you may recognize from several Hollywood films. Here, you can catch some waves, go diving and snorkeling, or simply relax on the sandy beach with a cold cerveza. You can even explore the beach on horseback or join a fun ATV tour. When it's time to eat, check out the Benito Juarez main street for some delicious and affordable tacos. There's also a hotel that's located right on the beach. Rosarito Beach is a great place to visit year-round, but it can get crowded during the summer months. – Tripadvisor

This was my first trip to Rosarito Beach in 10 years so I was definitely out of “practice” and maybe I’m just older but will not be looking to return in the near future. As soon as we crossed the border into Mexico we were pulled over for inspection which never happened before so that was interesting!
The officers went through our stuff while we remained seated up front.
They finally let us go after explaining to them in Spanglish that Ginger beer is not alcohol. I guess you’re not supposed to bring alcohol into the country. ☺️
Tijuana still looks the same and we made it to our condo we rented at Las Olas Grand through Airbnb. (1 star and see reviews for Las Olas Grand for more details.)
Before you accept any type of service, a cab, order food, just about anything, if you don’t ask about price upfront then it’s open season to fleece the tourists.
It’s such a buzzkill to have to ask about price for everything while on vacation. But after enough surprises and disappointment, that was all I did for the rest of the trip.
Google Maps is unreliable and the lack of or hidden signage makes it maddening to drive. Watch out for Stop signs hidden behind trees too!
I did meet some very nice, fun, and wonderful people as well throughout this trip and got to meet a lot of sweet dogs all of which I wanted to take home with me.
We drove back after a brief visit to the Valley de Guadalupe to the Tecate border. The wait time was a little better and it was way more mellow and scenic returning this way.

Hotel is in very bad shape, rooms are falling apart and need renovations ASAP. they advertise WIFI which they don't have and housekeeping does a terrible job; they DO NOT clean the rooms. You call Front desk for help and they only respond with sorry we are understaffed. Also they charge as if they were a decent 4 to 5 star hotel, but they only barely scratch a 1 star rating. Lastly the food in the restaurant is ok but it appears the chef does not know what salt is.

It's definitely a fun vibe and so many things to do there, however, if you're looking to relax on the sand, look elsewhere. There's horse poop by the shore due to the horseback rides offered there. I wish they would clean it up. I would not feel comfortable letting my kids play there or feel relaxed watching horses crap. Other than that, it's a fun a loud vibe.

We stayed at the Rosarito Beach Hotel for two weeks and walked the beach every day. The sand was easy to walk on and we loved the sound of the crashing waves. There were quite a few vendors but were good about accepting no gracias. There were also a couple of restaurants that were fun to stop at and have a margarita or two while sitting at a table with our feet in the sand. At the far end of each end of the beach there was a water channel that flowed into the ocean. This did not smell good and was the only downside to the beach.

We were walking through the ocean for about 90 minutes walking through there. In the warmth, I will figure out there were lots of people there usually. We saw lots of horses got people to go rides if it was warmer. A few people did ride a few horses. Eating there is probably nice there, but it's not inside. That was not good for how cold it was. You need to go walk there. We've been twice this month.

Its the seafood that keeps on calling us...very affordable and enjoyable, not a bad drive either. Love the stores and the view from the restaurant. We had live music playing while we drank our margaritas and has our seafood. Fresh homemade tortillas. Excellent service. Coffee and dessert to finish our lunch. A stop to the grocery store for some good dry goods...love the honey and dry fruit, homemade corn tortillas, and some alcohol and candies.

Rosarito Beach used to be a dive where only surfers ventured to.
That was before luxury condos, lots of good restaurants and cleanup came to town.
So now it's an outpost not far from the border in San Diego where the full Mexican/ American vibe has set in and you don't have to go all the way to Ensenada to party.
All in all, it's a fun little short trip just south of the border.

My roommate and I were near Rosarito Beach to surf and camp in a local campground, and we were "shaken down" by the police TWICE for bribe money last weekend! The stories you hear about police corruption are absolutely true, and I'm living proof.
We have been going to Rosarito and Puerto Nuevo with our family for many years without problems, but our family was stopped in Tijuana last fall because my dad was driving while using his cell phone, (which is NOT against Mexican law, by the way.) When the officer saw my dad's sheriff's badge, he let us go. Last weekend, we were stopped twice-- the first time without reason. I speak Spanish fluently, and when I refused to offer a bribe but said I would rather go the police station to pay a fine legally, the officer took us to the station, opening a dark, stinking cell, and told us to get in. At that point, I said in Spanish, "Ok, what do you want?" He closed the door to the office and asked how much we had. Forty five dollars later, we were free...
Free, that is, until the next day when we went into town to drop off our bag of trash from cleaning up our campground. The bag was in the back of my truck and, yes, had a couple of empty beer cans in it, so this time we were picked up for "open containers." I went to the ATM but also called home. When my mom explained politely in Spanish that my dad is a San Diego sheriff and they would be happy to come and pay any fine, the policeman immediately said, "No, it's okay-- they can go."
So be prepared: only cash or a badge will set you free.We have contacts in high places in Baja but still we were vulnerable-- and there are no guarantees you won't be asked to "sign this form and we'll let you go" and instead you have signed a confession. Baja police can be CORRUPT!

Sewage from neighborhoods in the adjacent hills runs down creeks and directly into the ocean and passing cruise ships have their trash wash up on shore. The city does a good job cleaning up the beach every morning, but even if it looks clean, the water isn't. Stay out of the water because it is polluted. Also, it still isn't very safe here yet. This can be verified in the local newspapers serving Rosarito and Tijuana that show massive daily crime reports.

Can anyone recommend a good and safe beach in the Rosarito area for teens? Thank you.

Hey
Looking to book a trip starting in San Francisco to san diago and then fly from San Diego back to London.
However looking to break the trip up by visiting Mexico Rosarito beach and stay here for a few days.
Just thinking how and which way is easiest and safest to cross the border for a non American/Mexican.
Many thanks
Also any suggestions for things to do in both places and where to stay would be a great help for July 2020.
🤙

Also if you book at the Rosarito Beach Hotel ask about the option for a shuttle.

Where can I fly on an Ultralight in Rosarito? And are there any good casinos?
Written May 24, 2018
there are several casinos close by at least 3. The one I liked the best was in the Walmart Shopping Center
