I went to this beautiful pool because I usually find the ocean difficult to swim in. It's not as big as I'd like but people come and go and there are periods you might have it to yourself. It's a free, municipal pool. I met swim teachers Adela and Mario, who offered me a lesson. I'm an intermediate swimmer but always feel like I can improve or learn new strokes and drills. And if you don't swim well, here's a chance to learn for next to nothing! A one-hour private lesson cost 50 pesos (about $2.50)! Even if you're already a swimmer, they're such fun to meet. We spoke in Spanish, not sure how much English they know. They are there weekdays from 4-6pm.

Olas Altas is the best beach in the pacific mexican coast. The locals in mazatlan are very friendly! THe golden zone is the best place to eat a good aguachile and native food.

I start from the CIUDADES HERMANAS park to the Pedro Infante monument and back home ,approximately 7000-8000 Fitbit steps
On our way we will pick up a coffee and stroll the malecón taking in the ocean breeze, and having wonderful conversations with my wife.

During our stroll along the Malecon, on Thursday 3rd February, this beach was one of the sights we saw along the way
It is situated at the southern end of the Malecon, it stretches along the coast from the River, Rio Cuale down to Playa los Muertos and it's pier.
It's name translates as high waves beach, however, when we were here the waves were rather tame.
The top end of the beach (river end) is dedicated as a turtle conservation area. There are signs, asking visitors to respect the beach and keep off certain areas. They also give information about what to do if turtles were seen on the beach.
There was not a lot of activity happening along this beach with it's golden sand. We did see a stall where people were preparing shellfish to be sold.
A number of bars, restaurants, shops and cafe are on the promenade alongside the beach.

Between malecon and the old town, a place for dare devils and statues. It is a nice walk and if you're lucky, some dare devil divers

If you're looking for a beach with great beach combing, high enough waves for body surfing and not a bunch of vendors and tourists, Olas Altas is it. My kids loved to play every year we came down and there are usually lifeguards on duty. Great and inexpensive restaurants are right across the beach. Love it.

One of the many beaches on the Malecon. Nice and wide with some snack stands .
Across the street are plenty of bars and restaurants.

A nice quiet uncrowded large beach at the end of the Malecon. Very basic though. Bring your own umbrella. No change rooms. Could not see any toilet facilities but did not check out the whole beach. Peaceful, no vendors.

So much leading up to this wonderful location! Just before arriving this area is the famous ocean filled swimming pool! Also Devils cave! Playa OlS Altas is also a natural phenomenon with the sand of the beach swapping ends with the seasons! Street shuts down for foot traffic in the evening! Soft breezes, picturerest setting makes for a photographers paradise!
Day time or night time the food is always pleasing to your taste! Bring the significant other, wife children family and friends! Something for everyone.
Bike rentals to extend your sight seeing! Lots of history all around you!
