We were looking for something interesting to do while in Mazatlán, found out about the lighthouse, and decided to drive over. Upon our arrival, we were almost gagging at the scent of the sewer treatment center at the base of the walk, but continued up all the less. The scent was soon behind us. The switchback trails will take you... More

Its at the far southern tip of old town Mazatlan. Drive past everything and by the time you can see it just drive to the turnaround, find a place to park and take off. I would call it strenuous but I'm 66 and do a lot of walking, so judge for yourself. They sell snacks and water at the top,... More

I really enjoyed this walk. It is fun to just see the city from a different angle. Very local. Not well taken care of. Still it was great and recommend it. OK there is a very very tiny tienda at the top but it was poorly managed lots and lots of trash. Because there were so many people on the... More

Great workout to get all the way to the top!... it worth the 360• view!... you can see to the ocean and to the Mazatlan beach (el malecón).

This is not a hike for the out of shape. We were given some poor information from expats offering tourist information. In all likelihood they had never done the hike. We walked the malecon from the Historic Center to the start of the hike. We had been told it was about a mile easy walk from Centro so went without... More

Getting to the top is not easy but once you are there the views are spectacular of the city. It is worth the trip up. To get here take the golf cart taxi as you will need your legs for the walk up and it is not that close to all the other spots

The climb or walk to ElFaro isn't for the out of shape. I have bad knees and made it to the top but won't do it again. The views are amazing! The walk up for me was not. I stopped a lot. It is an unpaved path.

The start of the climb up was only about a mile from my hotel in Old Town. I jogged over there and incorporated the ascent as part of my morning workout. The climb itself is about 7/10ths of a mile (1.1 km) with about 400' of climbing. The first third is a rough dirt road, followed by about 400 concrete... More

This year you could say I was not in the best physical condition. It became a very tough walk for me. Good thing we went up early around 8:45 am before it really started to get hot. Once at the top there are ample locations to find shade. the views are absolutely stunning. Bring the camera.

Be prepared for a workout. Bring water. Wear good shoes. The views at the top are worth it. Not a typical lighthouse like the US. The climb to the top is natural and then includes over 300 steps.
