My credo is anything that is the _______ in the world it is worth at least considering checking out. Such is the case with El Faro in Mazatlan. It is the tallest natural lighthouse on the planet and you can hike it for free. We...More

It's quite the hike, and you better be in shape to get to the top. Once you get to the base of the hill, it's about a 10 to 15 minute hike up a path to get to the steps. Then, it's about 350 steps...More

The hike to the top is challenging but worth it for the magnificent view. Water and drinks are available for purchase at the top. There is some construction going on on the path and steps up but all is safe. Someone told us a zipline...More

But I would recommend going before 9am because it will be warm! They are rebuilding the path up the hill so it's going to be really nice when it's finished. Keep to the trail, don't try to shortcut like we did (got into some horrible...More

We got up extra early and took a pulmonia (open air taxi) to the entrance of this place, expecting to hike up and view the sunrise, only to find it was closed for repairs. This must be a relatively recent thing, as our hotel and...More

This is one of those must do things while you are in Mazatlan. Make sure you are in good physical condition and bring lots of water. There is a back and forth road you can walk up, or you can take shortcuts up the rock....More

The lighthouse itself wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would be a traditional lighthouse, but it wasn't. I was disappointed about that. However, I highly recommend the experience. Go early in the morning, though, as there isn't any shade on the way up...More

We took a bus downtown from El CID Marina (Sabalo Centro - green bus). I think it was about 11 pesos each.. It takes you close enough to the START of the hike to El Faro. Ask the bus driver to let you off at El Faro. It... More
