This is my favourite beach in Mazatlan.
We stay in the Golden zone, but often go to Cerritos to the beach.
Either for a long beach walk, or an afternoon laying in the sun, this beach is way less crowded then anywhere else.
If you lookin for a good beach walk, you can easily walk uninterrupted for 45 minutes one way, and 45 minutes back.
There’s a few good restaurants , and trinket shops in the area also. Enjoy!!

You can walk for miles on this fantastic beach area. Clean and safe. One day 8 porpoises followed us along the beach. Nice to watch the beautiful sunsets on the beach area.

Playa Cerritos is an overlooked gem... more of a locals beach, it's definitely NOT your nice sandy resort beach!
Easy to get to from the Golden zone, take a Cerritos bus north past the marina, or a pulmonia, and enjoy a nice morning or afternoon. The tourist area is right beside an RV park, featuring US and Canadian expats, depending on the time of year. There is a convenience store, restaurants, coffee shop, bar and spa/salon on site, as well as several of the ubiquitous souvenir shops. (Note: I found prices on merchandise here to generally be a better deal than from shops further down in the Golden zone...)
This is not a good beach for swimming, as the tides and rocks can be hazardous. While visibility in the inside of the reef structure may be fine for snorkelling, I would not recommend doing this unless you are a professional used to swimming in rough water. However, if you love to view the sea and coast from outside of the water, this is the place for you!
We came here twice to explore the tide pools and rocks around the western/southern part of the bay, once during low tide and again at high tide. Depending on the time of day, you can see fishermen bringing in the day's catch, plus oyster divers, and net casters among the reef. During low tide, you can walk out on the rocks, and view pelicans, sea birds, small fish, crabs, urchins, anemones and the varied reef and rock structure. You can also find sea glass, and remnants of oysters and other shells among the rocky beach.
During high tide, we scrambled along the rocky shore line in search of Playa Bruja... alas, we could only make it about half way around the point before the rocks dropped off into the rough ocean.
Tips if you are exploring the tide pools; Wear appropriate foot wear to protect your feet, as there are sharp rocks and some slippery surfaces. Print off a tide chart and have a watch to monitor the time so you don't get trapped in deeper water. During low tide, you still may have to wade in knee deep water in some places. And of course, be eco-friendly - don't touch or disturb anything in the tide pools.
Note of CAUTION: If you plan to scramble beyond the main beach area and tidal flats, please note that you do so at your own risk. If you are not in good health/fitness, or familiar with coastal hiking, do not attempt this! Watch the surf, as waves can come up unexpectedly and take your feet out from under you, even while up high on the rocks.

Truly the most beautiful beach in all of Mazatlan. Surf very rough at times and often riptides. Swimmers beware and don’t swim far out if there are riptide signs posted, use common sense and swim when safe. I live on this beach part of the year and assure you it is lovely, places to snack and eaten beachside masseuses. Lovely condos

Go beyond the row of restaurants and down to the beach at the end of Cerritos. Not the Beach by Sr Leonso’s. But past Roy’s and The Last Drop.

Mazatlan is not the destination to visit if you are looking for a great beach. The PACIFIC ocean on this coast is cold, mostly rocky with LOTS of marine life. This part of Mexico has the worlds largest shrimp and abundant fishing which is great. However is you want a beautiful beach you will not find it on this side of Mexico.

very good district for quieter holidays. short bus to Golden Zone. has a Walmart and Sears and big mall not too far away. walking to great beach restaurants.. there is an all-inclusive hotel Riu in the north area too. beach is wide and flat. water good jumping and buggy boarding. Mazatlan is now a very safe place to visit.. so much constructions and new building going up and new beautiful infrustructure everywhere.. stayed 2 winter months from Canada

Is there a certain time of day the fishing boats typically come in with their catches?
Written November 17, 2019
Hello, I believe the fisherman go out very early in the morning and depending on how the fishing is going, they come in early morning, early afternoon.

Would you say that this would be a good beach to do a wedding vow renewal?? We don't want a really crowded beach.we will only be there for about 6 hours, we are on a cruise ship.

Did you find a beach? When are you going to be there?
