We spent a week in Oaxaca specifically to find rugs for our house in Sayulita. The village of Teotitlan del Valle is the center of the finest handmade rugs in Mexico. There are numerous rug "factories" where artisans weave beautiful works of art in every shape, size and color. And there is even a central market place with stalls where... More

The highlight of visiting Teotitlan has always been calling on the Zapotec weaver and artisan Bulmaro Perez Mendoza. A professional couple we know, who are very involved in the NYC art world, are astounded by the craftsmanship and artistry of Bulmaro Perez Mendoza. He has rugs and wall hangings in all sizes, shapes, colors and designs, along with handwoven bags,... More

I was remiss in reviewing this wonderful site after our Spring 2015 visit (April 2015). Four US-based adults spent an informative 2 hours learning about natural dyes, watching weaving, and viewing the products of the artisans at the Bulmaro Perez Mendoza family's site in Teotitlan de Valle. Our hosts were friendly and accommodating. The processes interesting and the results exquisite.... More

Teotitlan del Valle is comprised of a number of workshops producing hand-woven rugs and other textiles. Many will give a demonstration of spinning, dying, and weaving. Even if you have seen similar demonstrations, you may learn something new and it is fun to watch. Our first visit was with a guide. Since it had been a long day and we... More

This is the city to buy rugs (tapetes) and bedspreads. Thousands of rugs. Check out its Centro first for a grand selection woven by many local vendors.

This village is incredible if you have a desire to see a close-by village outside Oaxaca & have an interest in learning about the production of Mexican carpets. Head to Isaac Vasquez's for a lesson in natural dyes & processes, then dawdle a bit & oogle the finished products. Bet you don't leave without a rug (they pack down quite... More

On the way from the Tlacolula market tour with Nora Andrea Valencia Gutierrez, we stopped in the charming village of Teotitlan del Valle, a lovely, simple community which has a long tradition of textiles. After visiting the cathedral we went to the Perez Mendoza compound, and were treated to a 30 minute presentation by Bulmaro Perez Mendoza on the art... More

You'll save a lot by making the trip to Teotitlan del Valle. This is the town with the real Zapotec weavers. From here, the rugs go to Oaxaca and beyond and the prices get multiplied. We had a great time there.

My friends and I decided to visit Teotitlan to visit the town and to buy textiles (woven bedspreads, napkins, purses, etc). We took the local bus (10 pesos one way) from the bus station on road 190. The station is between the "Estadio Eduardo Vasconcelos," McDonalds and the bus takes you to the middle of the Pueblo and it takes... More
