Loved hanging out here in the Plaza, my hotel was about 5-7 minutes away so I came every day and would hang out and people watch and gaze at the great architecture.
For sure stop into the cathedral.
Area is pretty safe but as always stay alert.

A true "agora", where both locals and tourists gather, whether it's gazing at the old architectural treasures of Guadalajara's historic center, or just people watching. There are entertainers, and food vendors around, lots of restaurants, and only a few benches to rest for free (there should be more).

I'm in Guadalajara right now for my second visit in 2 years. As always, the plaza is lovely to relax and take some nice photos. However, the place and everywhere nearby is packed with families as it seems that the schools have broken up for half term.

The exception is the magnificent Degollado building on one side of the plaza. The plaza itself has a gorgeous fountain and plenty of activity so one can people watch for hours if one can find a place to sit down.

Our Hotel Frances was located close by so we walked around this and connecting plazas each day here. People from all over the country and world come to view the sites here.

Belive it or not, Guadalajara almost does not have a "centre". There is abviously a huge area od main streets packed with people over the day; but as soon as the shops close thisweb of main streets turns into a dark and at some point scary suburb. The "only" place where you may still reralize that you are in the centre of a 5 million inhabitants city is Plaza de ramas, where you can find the only 2 cafès that may serve you something to eat or drink after 9pm. And if you are lucky, you might even find some busker playing some songs while you sip your coffee at one of the tables displayed on the south corner of the square.

Plaza de Armas, once the meeting place of the native Ochoas, is the city’s historic centre. A splendid, Paris-built wrought-iron bandstand, supported by eight female figures representing different musical instruments, stands in the middle of the square. There were also four Greco-Roman sculptures of beautiful maidens representing the four seasons. As my interest was in global warming, only the lady undressed for the summer heat caught the eye of my camera. All the amazingly sculpted wrought-iron benches were occupied with people sunning themselves, chatting or reading the leaflets distributed by the protestors. From the lavishly designed vintage street lamps hung the colours of Mexico. Four mariachis, attractively dressed in baggy white pants embellished with floral designs, loose blue shirts tied with a sash, and colourful embroidered bags slung across their shoulders, entertained the crowd with music. Playful pigeons and children provided the background sounds. The imposing, mid-18th century Government Palace dominates the plaza.
