Tonala, the hometown of a great friend, and Tlaquepaque, the hometown of my wife, are great places to visit for shopping. All the artisanias of Mexico can be found in these to locales. The tianges (swap meets) of Tonala are especially fun.

Most shops sell handicrafts of the highest grade that may well grace a museum. Prices are therefore high but if you want a masterpiece, this is a place to shop. You need a ca, about 20.25 minutes from the centre, depending on teh traffic.

We took the Tapatio tour bus to Tlaquepaque on a Sunday afternoon and were not disappointed. Most everything was open. The quality of the products was excellent and reasonably priced. We happened upon the Sergio Bustamante gallery and, boy, is that a gem! The garden...More

Both towns are worth a visit but are very different. Tonala has a market that sells locally made crafts of all kinds. Tlaquepaque is more high end and boasts the largest bar in Mexico - complete with mariachi bands. We spent two half days in...More

We loved the lovely area of Tiaquepue , it's very quiet after the Guadalajara area. We taxied over from the hotel Moralas 100 pacos. Nice shops art gallery's and restaurants. They also have a small Marcado with restaurant, green grocers, meat and baked items ....More

We loved Tlaquepaque! It has the colonial charm Guadalajara does not have. There are pedestrian only streets to wander and look at fabulous shops in beautiful old buildings. Lots of outdoor and indoor dining. I highly recommend the tour, which is self led.

Must visit when in Guadalajara. Great restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Definitely recommend visit to "El Parian", to enjoy the local food, drinks and, of course, Mariachi music. Although many other cities have an area know as "El Parian", the Parian in Tlaquepaque is the probably...More

We took an Uber on a Sunday afternoon and it was very inexpensive. No tour needed, it’s just a big market place. I’d clear several hours for exploring.
