This is a very small museum near the Basilica. You enter and leave through a small work shop. The museum while small does explain aspects of the Life of the Huichol . There are descriptions in English and Spanish. It looks like the exhibits have not changed in years and it would be interesting to hear if life for the Huichol... More

The first thing I saw was the little gift shop and my heart sank. But it was much more than that...great little museum with information in both English and Spanish. The workmanship on the museum pieces is just outstanding! I learned a lot and it cost so little.

Small museum with good basic information about the Huicholes. You maybe able to buy some of the necklaces, earings, etc cheaper from street vendors.

My wife and I were interested in getting some Huichol art but did not have a lot of time in Guadalajara to look for places that sell it - we couldnt find any at the mercado two blocks away in Zapopan and none of the street vendors just outside the Basilica were selling any Huichol items, which surprised us. We... More

Beautiful displays of Huichol handicrafts, none of which are necessarily cheap, but lots of work shown in the design and detail. The bees wax in which beads are imbedded in figures and other things is impressive and obviously lots of work to do this craft.

The northern part of the state of Jalisco is there heart of the Huichol homeland. These indians, their beliefs, customs and costumes are very special. The museum does not do them justice.

Some interesting information on the Huichol. Aspects of the religion, history, living structures, and clothing are covered briefly. Don't expect a large museum. It's only $10 pesos ( about USD $.80 ) The gift shop has lots of jewelry, masks, and tapestries. I can't comment on whether the prices are good, as I didn't shop around.

Facing the Basilica on the far right next to the banos (2p). Closed for siesta (2-4 pm). There are pieces Approx 16 inches square that will fit into your luggage (that's approx. 16"x16') . The Huichols have figured this one out. These pieces are 800P. Try to take correct pesos. The attendant is very sweet and tries to juggle change.... More

I didn't know the museum was even there, but could not leave Zapopan without stopping by. The artwork and information displayed is amazing.

I have been to the Guadalajara area three times. All three times I went to the Huichol Museum and stayed from opening to closing. It IS very small, if all you want is a look-see, you only need about 1/2 hour. But for enthusiats of Huichol Arte, this is the place to go. The work is of the highest quality.... More
