This historic building originally built for grain storage, looms high up in the city. It is just up the hill from the market place. By touring this building and its exhibits, I was finally able to put the bits of Mexican history I knew into place. There is an English guide you can ask for where you buy your tickets.... More

Great review of Mexican history. Excellent timelines and plenty of opportunity to learn a lot about Mexico. Bring your dictionary as VERY LITTLE is written in English. Enjoyed it very much.

I loved the Alhondiga. It's a very attractive building, originally built as a grain store but after played an important role in the early stages of the Mexican War of Independence. There are beautiful murals in the staircases and several display rooms. The history ranges from pre-hispanic pieces to parts about the conquest and on to the Mexican War of... More

The Alhondiga has important details of the Mexican Revolution. However, if you don't have a lot of background about the Mexican Revolution, this museum doesn't provide a lot of context or information.

This building played a very important role in Mexico's fight for independence. It has been converted appropriately enough, to a museum which contains exhibits about the fight for independence. It also contains exhibits about various indigenous cultures, other aspects of Mexican history, photographs and the works of a few well known artists. The building itself is beautiful and would be worth... More

This place has a lot of history as it is one of the first places in which the revolutionary forces fought the first battle for independence. The Alhondiga has always been something that we wanted to visit and being here was an amazing experience. It feels as if history is still alive.

It is important to see the place in which one of the central battles for independence was fought. The museum has several rooms devoted to various stages of history of Mexico as well as local history. Additionally, there are rooms devoted to photographs of old Guanajuato and portraits of its citizens, The murals on staircases are fascinating. On one side... More

One of the best museos in Guanajuato. Informative and lots of interesting artifacts from different regions of Mexico and Guanajuato. The murals are outstanding and it provides good information on historic events. It cost 52 pesos to enter and I spent two hours looking around. Definitely worth the time if you like history.

The Alhondiga de Granaditas in 1810 was the scene of one of the epic battles of the Mexican war of independence. An army of 20,000 soldiers lled by the Miguel Hidalgo, father of the Mexican of the great epic, besieged a Spanish and criollo force of around 600 men. The Alhondiga served as a granary and depository of seeds and... More
